LinkMarioSamus 07/16/22 8:18:47 AM #1:	I wanted to continue my rant about the Nostalgia Critic vs. the Jurassic Park movies from the Rings of Power topic but figured that wasn't the right thread for it. So here goes... The first Jurassic Park movie the NC reviewed, and the only one he did so before the initial cancellation, was The Lost World. He mocks the heroes' concerns over the dinosaurs at first by flashing back to scenes of the dinosaurs in the first film causing trouble...even though the dinosaurs in question in Lost World were plant-eating dinosaurs getting rounded-up by the Ingen guys as opposed to the dinosaurs in the scenes he shows from the first film being meat-eaters, implying Doug thinks all dinosaurs are carnivorous monsters and not just animals with their own sets of necessities. This basically sets the tone for the rest of the review where he acts like he has no idea why we should be rooting for the heroes against the villains, making it seem like he completely misunderstands the whole idea of the franchise. His other JP reviews don't help at all, with his review of the first one focusing on its strengths as blockbuster entertainment rather than its techno-thriller plot (e.g. he asks how no one realized the dinosaurs had frog DNA when the implication is clearly more that the people in charge had no idea how that would impact the dinosaurs. That being said it has been a while since I saw Lost World or 3 and haven't fully seen World since it came out (tried watching it while channel-surfing recently to see how much of it I could endure, got annoyed pretty fast). --- Why do people act like the left is the party of social justice crusaders? <cite>LinkMarioSamus posted [p:966615168] in LMS Rants... In that case however the big thing is I got surprised by how The Lost World has a reputation as the Jurassic Park movie where "the heroes are responsible for all the deaths while the villains do nothing bad" which I never felt whenever I've seen the movie. The one grain of truth is that the main reason the villains are villains is because they want to build another park, which went SO well the first time. Would The Exorcist or heck even Citizen Kane fare much better in such a discussion? Trying to act like Avatar should have been the next Star Wars is ridiculous. Comparisons to Cameron's own Titanic are more understandable but you're still talking about a two-person period romance vs. a science fiction film. Goyer ruined Foundation the way he ruined DC and Terminator because NC frequently mocks Goyer and his last two screenwriting credits were Batman v. Superman and Terminator: Dark Fate. Admittedly I haven't fully seen the former but I do not like what I have seen at all. Speaking of Dark Fate, it also took me until like yesterday to realize how often anti-progressives keep bringing up the same few examples for "Get Woke, Go Broke". Part of the reason I started following Midnight's Edge recently again is because I wanted to see someone mock Rings of Power, only to result in the same old jabs at the Ghostbusters reboot and The Last Jedi. In 2021. Accuse me of hypocrisy all you want but wow. Then I went back and saw an earlier video about how they were afraid Black Widow would be the next coming of TLJ because of how many interviews involved Scarlett Johansson talking about her career struggles (while simultaneously flashing some reports about how she's the highest-paid Hollywood actress, which doesn't actually mean much) and what the character means to her and women as a whole and how she always wanted Black Widow to be a more fleshed-out character instead of a glorified sex object. This was eventually accompanied by a slideshow of promotional images for Dark Fate, Charlie's Angels, and Birds of Prey as if BW was set up to be the same thing. And then once the movie came out the main spokesperson for the site said the movie was somehow not as woke as he feared it would be based on that and previous Phase 4 entries which clashed with my own opinion on the movie after watching it where I felt if any movie deserved to be labelled a social message in search of a plot it was Black Widow. I like the movie was a celebration of action girls but my god, what plot was there actually beyond finding out a cartoonish caricature of Harvey Weinstein was somehow not dead and putting a stop to his sex trafficking ring once and for all? And somehow this is not political according to them while Last Jedi is. I guess it's understandable considering most probably don't realize they are though - I can name exactly four movies released over the past decade Gibson has been involved with. And I'm not even sure if one of them is less than 10 years old. My attitude towards the Ezra Miller situation shifted drastically for similar reasons. Doesn't help that 'grooming' has become a Republican buzzword, making it seem like a ploy to sabotage The Flash. And then once the movie came out the main spokesperson for the site said the movie was somehow not as woke as he feared it would be based on that and previous Phase 4 entries which clashed with my own opinion on the movie after watching it where I felt if any movie deserved to be labelled a social message in search of a plot it was Black Widow. I like the movie was a celebration of action girls but my god, what plot was there actually beyond finding out a cartoonish caricature of Harvey Weinstein was somehow not dead and putting a stop to his sex trafficking ring once and for all? And somehow this is not political according to them while Last Jedi is.
