So, aside from the fact that it is horrendously slowly paced, I think we have reached my biggest problem with Umineko

When it started, based on the premise and the relatively normal appearance and situation I assumed that this was going to be in the realm of realism, my initial expectations were that a central theme was going to be proving a witch couldn't really exist.

But since the completely insane Kanon.... whatever the hell that is I am starting to question that paradigm and wondering if we are in anime world.

Like don't get me wrong, I don't mind anime world some times. Unrealistic anime world can be fun sometimes. But if feels like a bait and switch after 10 hours to swap into that.

Like right now I am looking wondering if when Rosa said she turned into a demon to protect her child she was being literal and when she was beating Maria she actually was a demon, and wondering if Kanon right now is possessed or something, and that is incredibly outside the scope of what I thought was plausible in this narrative

I don't know, I feel a little deceived. I guess I feel a little dumb expecting a story grounded in semi reality given this is the sequel to Higurashi, but I thought that the bright Violet and Green hair pretty clearly set the expectations early there.

Reality vs fiction and deciding what believe, figuring out when you're being deceived and when you're seeing the truth, is the entire modus operandi of Umineko. It is a mystery first and foremost. You should not expect these answers to be handed to you anytime soon, if at all, depending on what question you're asking yourself at the time.

"Is reasoning possible, or impossible?" is a core theme of Umineko. That's all I'll say for now.

For some reason I don't think that was the intended effect of this scene.

I am disappointed in you Umineko. I am hoping that we have some weird unreliable narrator situation where none of this is actually real, because I had higher expectations.

When I finished episode 1 I rememeber commenting "music seems a little weak"

And now it's one of my favorite OSTs. Music ramp up in this game is insane.

I think they mention this in passing at the beginning of Episode 1, but Battler lived with his real mom for the past six years and didn't see anyone in the Ushiromiya family during that time.

Well, no, his real mom is dead. He lived with his grandparents on his mothers side. Battler had a falling out with his father because his mother Asumu died 6 years before the story, but his father married Kyrie almost immediately afterward, so he moved out.

And yeah, this was all said VERY early in Episode 1. Like first chapter early.

Oh right, that was it. I knew she died before the story started, but I thought it was her death that prompted him to return.

I know he lived with his grandparents until they died, and didn't go to Rokkenjima, but I have a hard time taking the quoted line as entirely factual, in any case. It creates some inconsistencies.

Well, Rosa might not have the facts entirely correct, for what it's worth.

So two interesting things from the end of episode 2

The order of deaths is odd. So Nanjo and Kumasawa being the 7th and 8th twilight when they were missing before the 5th 6th and 7th was interesting

Also interesting was the reveal that the goat people were people wearing goat masks.

If there is .... somehow someway that this isn't magical I think these two things are connected.

But at this point I don't see how that is plausible without some dumb reveal that it was all a dream or something.

The end of Chapter two with Rosa firing shots at the goat people combined with that music was awesome though. I don't understand how the art is so consistently bleh scene after scene then they suddenly have just this amazing full screen action shot of someone. Kind of funny.

Also this 2nd tea party is disgusting.

worldenddominator (the song that plays with Rosa and Maria at the end) is so great

Also, in an absolutely disgusting scene about cannibalizing your siblings, the grossest part was still battler telling maria he wanted to have sex with her in 10 years.

People did solve it before Episode 3 was even out, but for the average reader especially that only knows English I would suggest not to bother with the epitaph.
