If it's a supplemental thing that isn't testable through gameplay, I either replay the scene (if I saved immediately prior) or look it up in the game's tutorial section (or online if it's a older game without such a thing). If it's a gameplay thing, I just play to test it out. I never ignore these things. (Capacity Cores from Tales of the Abyss, for instance, are something that the game doesn't focus on but you can't ignore without making it very difficult for yourself later). It's rare that I get stuck on something like that for very long. I've seen enough gameplay mechanics over the years that I don't really struggle with much anymore.
