Yeah, I sympathize with Embiid overall, but you're doing yourself no favors if you develop a reputation as the guy who blames his teammates, no matter how correct his criticisms may be.

doc isn't really to blame for simmons. that's simmons's own fault.

embiid throwing harden under the bus is arguably his fault though.

I mean Doc threw Simmons under the bus after they got eliminated last year and then tried to backpedal out of it

in peak irony Simmons actually outplayed Harden in some regards in the second halves of the respective playoff series (2021 vs Hawks, 2022 vs Heat)

Tatum basically saved the Celtics when he came off the bench in the 4th. Made incredible shot after shot as the Bucks were otherwise making a run.

Tatum in a year or two gonna start getting MVP chatter I think - well see. Theyd be in the ECF already if the team didnt whine about calls and give up 3s the other way. Its so bad. Just need to grow up a year.

i mean I assume you're referring to Giannis. but theoretically I think that label could potentially apply to Curry, Game 6 Klay, Jimmy Butler, Chris Paul, and possibly Luka or Tatum (we will find out in Game 7).

Nah, none of those guys can consistently be that guy. Curry generally hasn't stepped his game up in the playoffs and I don't expect Game 6 Klay to show up again this playoffs. I just don't think he can consistently do it anymore.

Luka and Tatum haven't done enough real winning to say they can be that guy yet. Chris Paul has put up some clunkers and taking over a game offensively isn't really his style anyway.

Butler I might be willing to give you, but I don't think he can do it on the level Giannis can, who impacts every game even if he statistically has a "bad game."

I'm not saying Milwaukee is winning the series, but if it's a Game 7 and you need one of those guys to do whatever it takes to get you 40 points, who would you have the most confidence could actually do it? For me, it's easily Giannis.

no timelord makes it pretty easy but yeah the reason why Giannis/Embiid/Jokic all get so much constant chatter in MVP discussion the last two years is because the gap between them and other bigs is higher than guards and wings and one another

I would have voted Giannis MVP pretty easily. I got nothing but respect for the Bucks. The fans even boo Grayson Allen (it's mostly their way of cheering for him, but, it's kinda perfect).

Eh jokic has had like no help and put up an all time record season by advanced metrics. I know there is more to it than numbers but even just based on the eye test you can tell how dominant he was.

Granted embiid was basically down a second star all season and then got gimped harden.

I'm also not a fan of past performances playing into awards even though I know they do. Like someone being a previous winner should be completely irrelevant. It's this regular season in isolation. There shouldn't be the narrative that it should be harder to win the second one than the first. You're either the MVP or you aren't, what you did in previous years should matter absolutely zero.

Jokic, Giannis, and Embiid were all well-deserving for MVP, so you couldn't go wrong in choosing any one of them.

Yeah, I think Giannis is the best player in the league right now, but some people make a distinction between best player and most valuable, so I don't have a problem with Jokic winning and I wouldn't have had an issue if Embiid had won either.

bucks really messed up when they traded away a guy who could actually play good playoff minutes (DiVincenzo) for a guy who couldn't (Serge Ibaka). They got a whole 3 minutes of garbage time play from Ibaka in a 7 game series while the celtics role players killed them.

Of course they couldn't predict Middleton getting injured, but that's a huge risk with trading away depth to avoid paying them
