They probably get rewarded with Scott Foster game 6.

i mean... maybe they get foster. but i don't think the nba would mind too much if the sun's advanced here. if they were up 3-2 vs the warriors, then i'd expect foster.

I do too!

Especially after last night showing that you dont always need a great game by CP3.

Suns have just looked bad in a few of these losses, at the same time its the playoffs and both Dallas and NO are better than there records indicate based off the second half.

There is no way philly is giving him that contract. He still hasn't opted in to his PO for next year which you know he's going to after this season. His days as a max player are done imo.

Philly doesn't exactly have the option not to. Whatever contract Harden wants, he'll get, or Philly is shutting Embiid's window.

If philly fails again next year, then embiid will want out anyway imo. He already shaded harden in last night's postgame presser, if anything embiid would be more likely to say "no let him go" and free up cap space to try and get another star in there than he would be like "Yeah let's pay 50m/yr to an obviously aging guy"

Especially since in 23-24, tobias will be an expiring deal so you might be able to flip him for someone, while harden expires and you can just renounce him if he wants too much. They have a lot of flexibility after next year salary-wise.

You can't pay Harden that contract but they will. If they let him go it's not like they have that money available because of how the cap works. They are going to have to pay him and then eventually they will shuffle money around in a trade

Unless he opts in then they can try trade him next year

Yeah, they need to pay Harden because the only way they can get a star is by trading him or Harris. Letting Harden walk screws them over from both a talent perspective and a 'can we get anybody' perspective.

After next year, they will only have 98M in actual salary on the books. If they sign a bunch of 1 yr deals to fill out the roster next season, and renounce harden and the rests cap holds after, that would be more than enough cap space to go after someone substantial. Maybe not a max guy but someone who can contribute a lot, and that's not even factoring what if they manage to parley harris's expiring contract into some disgruntled star.

I guess I am assuming though that he opts in to next year. If he opts out and demands the contract now then I guess they are kinda screwed.

98m but they would have cap holds and they aren't renouncing all those guys. I'd also imagine they are extending Thybulle in the offseason to prevent him hitting RFA.

Once you have 2 max deals on the books, you don't really have cap flexibility. Only reason Warriors got it that Durant year was because the cap increased an unprecedented amount rather than being eased upwards like it should have been.

What they may (and probably should do) is try move Harris/Harden this year. Hope they can get better fitting pieces and hope Maxey continues to blossom before he's due to be paid.

P sure it was me, iirc. And I maintain the stance that at that time, when I was making the argument, that he was not completely washed. If you want to equate now to then then go for it, but that's not the argument I was making to you. He played like he was washed these past couple games.

Even after this playoff series, I don't think he actually is washed though, unless his desire isnt there. If he isn't willing to put in the conditioning effort to get himself right (which is imo the main problem) then sure, I'll give that to you. But I think the same thing is happening to him as was to simmons. He had a really bad couple of games and suddenly he's a useless player. He still shot a respectable 36% from 3 in the playoffs, avg almost 9 APG, scored over 19 a game...that's still a useful player. Harden-level, no, but washed? I'm just still not buying it.

This is gonna come down to your definition fo washed. I don't think harden is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. I also do not think he's washed. Simple as that for me. If changmas views washed as not as good as he once was, then changmas can take the W there, because I agree on that front.

he's a shell of his former self. that's washed.

Tim Legler on ESPN broke down some plays by Harden last night showing he can't even get separation against Victor Oladipo anymore.

Even Embiid (in typical fashion, deflecting blame and throwing another teammate under the bus) is saying Obviously, I am sure since we got him, everybody expected the Houston James Harden but thats not who he is anymore,

i don't believe this is directed at me but also clearly yes. I think Westbrook (like Harden) still belongs on an NBA roster (specifically a bench) but his role will never be what it used to be, and he's clearly being paid at a level that is far, far, far away from the value he can provide.

A noteworthy thing is Hardens hamstring injury that has lingered has probably bothered him throughout this playoff run. Hamstring injuries arent a joke. Not taking that many shots in the last game is probably a concern but theres wiggle room for him to bounce back

Well see how he does next year assuming he opts in. Doc coming back probably more shocking

Man I have always hated Harden and Westbrook. They both play the same kind of ball and I hated their style. They dont really know how to play on a team. All about them. Theres a few of these guys in the NBA but they were just extra about it. Russ telling teammates to let him get the rebounds so he can get a triple doubleterrible.

Im glad neither will ever win a ring and both are a couple seasons from retirement.

I think russ is washed because I don't think russ can do anything very well anymore. He's a net minus because he's too inefficient imo. I don't think harden is a minus, harden can at least shoot the ball with some accuracy. Like I said, if you believe washed = not as good as once was, that's perfectly fine. I'm not here to debate the definition of washed. But I don't thinkt he gap between harden and westbrook is as small as some others think.

I do however highly disagree with the seeming clap against embiid. What else is he supposed to do? He's playing with a thumb that needs surgery and a broken face. Sometimes it's not deflecting, it's rightfully assigning. If you want to say he shouldn't do it in public then fine, but embiid has been the one constant presence in the court. And I don't even like embiid because of how he carried himself earlier in his career but if anyone has been the good soldier all this time, it's him. He's earned the right to criticize his teammates imo.

He's perhaps earned the right but 99% of the time you're much better off not saying anything or uplifting your teammates rather than throwing them under the bus. He has professional relationships with these teammates and disparaging them in front of the media year after year will surely not improve chemistry or their play.

If you want a comparison look no further than Giannis. He's been let down by teammates in games and playoff series before but I have never once heard him deflect blame onto his teammates. They have his back and he has theirs, and Milwaukee is a stronger team for it.

no, of course not. but obviously it didn't help matters. if i were to put the blame on any one specific person I'd say Doc Rivers, but ultimately it's a combination of many different people's choices and actions (including simmons himself)

call me crazy though, but I just don't think you should throw your teammates (or players in the case of Doc Rivers) under the bus, no matter how true it may be. it will practically never do more good than harm
