So it seems over the last few days a new trend has happened where people afk rune farm, and it's making some people furious.

What do I mean by afk rune farm? That's where you hide in a spot invaders can't get to, pop a tongue and hope they disconnect, acquiring those sweet sweet runes when they do.

Personally I love it, I love anything that griefs salty invaders. I love it so much I'm going to join the afk people when I get home.

you get runes when someone uses the finger severer thing to leave??

There are better spots than that where only the horse can get to thus invaders can't.

For the second playthrough in a row I end up going to Atlus by the tunnel before I've finished the Academy. About halfway through the cave system I remembered where it was going to take me but kept going.

Yesterday was probably one of the worst days I've had playing. I know people lose Runes dying stupid ways on the way back to get them....

I died. Was going back to get my Runes and died losing 20K the first time. Beat some areas adn start getting that balance back up only to die and then die again in a dumb way trying to get the runes I replaced the 20K with. And again, and again, and again. All in all I probably played for like 5 hours and didn't gain a single level. I probably lost 6 or 7 levels of runes throughout the night.

If you can get to the spot then so can the invaders. They'll know dude, they'll always know.

Should be a giant bear or giant statue or something similar close by. Lure them there to destroy those statues.

What's it feel like intentionally griefing and wasting people time considering you literally only get invaded if you want to be?

If you use a freezing pot when shes about to use her op move, itll stagger her out of it. She is easily the hardest boss in any souls game.

I've spent waaaaay too much time over the last few days to try and understand what makes her tick, since I am not good enough to reliably dodge Waterfowl Dance when up close to her.

I can reliably get to the second phase. I just get destroyed there though. Can dodge the first slam but that's about it

Invading is absolutely griefing, the whole purpose of invading is to grief other players. I just love how ER is incredibly anti invasion by nature but people still doing it, then complaining about how "the deck is stacked." So delicious.

they really, really need to make a dedicated pvp mode. invasions suck for the invader, there's no reward besides runes and rune arcs, it's frankly the worst it's ever been. they need to do something with the colosseums where you all just enter a big free for all or something

I'm surprised more games have not taken the Guild Wars approach. PVP is a completely separate game(literally in the case of the first guild wars, where you could just buy the PvP game for like a third of the full price). Balance on every class and every skill has completely separated for PVE or PVP. Both games were successful too, both arew among the most successful PC games ever.

It would be nice to co op without having to deal with invaders and the people that wanna pvp can do it all day in a controlled environment.

started as a warrior and Im about level 50 and Ive been exclusively leveling vigor, str, and dex

have used no magic whatsoever up to this point, and all of those stats are below 10

why not use the duelist finger then? invading is for griefing, that's it. it is intentionally set up not to be a fair fight, in either direction. trying to argue otherwise is just trying to justify being a dick. if you wanna be a dick, be a dick, no one cares, but don't act like the point of invasions vs duelist fingers isn't just to shit on the host's day. not saying there's anything wrong with that. i like the excitement tbh, but trying to justify it as anything but griefing is lame as hell.

go join a fight club or put your sign down at the academy if you want honorable pvp or whatever. all is fair in invasions, KMA if you disagree

i'd personally pick either strength or dex to focus on, then spread the rest of my levels out across health and stamina, with a bit into FP for weapon skills

it entirely depends on the weapon you're using, and how you've augmented it if at all. check the scaling to see how your stats contribute. higher scores (on a scale from E-S, iirc, with S being the highest) gain more per point in stat investments. Leveling STR and DEX in tandem is what's known as a quality build (quality is the type of weapon augment that scales from both those stats, and has become coloquially used to refer to that kind of stat point allotment). IIRC quality builds aren't as strong in Elden Ring as they are in other FromSoft titles. I haven't used any magic either, and my two builds have primarily been INT and ARC, because of the scaling on certain greatswords, katanas and polearms. It seems counterintuitive, but a lot of the strongest melee builds don't focus on strength or dexterity beyond their requirements to wield certain weapons.

No it isn't. You cannot be forcibly invaded without your consent. It is literally not griefing because you control whether or not it happens and you also have the Finger Severer to remove invaders.

I made it to the Forbidden Land yesterday and up in the Mountaintop of the Giants. Currently in a catacomb, dying relentlessly to stupid statues because I can't master the frame perfect dodging requirements to escape the AOE ground pound.

and you sure bout that? every thing i see points to the contrary. afaik, finger severer only applies to summoned players.

There's a sacred seal for incantations that scales with strength and faith, and the faith requirement I believe is 10. Might be helpful for heals or some of the incantations it boosts.

boosting up your mind stat (FP) can allow you more options when it comes to using ashes of war and/or summons.

I'm going mostly for strength, but that extra bit of FP has been helpful.

Yeah, pretty stupid on From's behalf. You can also hope a blue will show up and defeat the invader, but with the wars going on many blues are helping invaders now lmao.

Not even like you need to boost it to a great degree. There are amulets that you can swap in to boost your FP. I want to see how much mind it would take for me to max out my FP so that it takes one flask to fill it. I'm at 25 right now, and my +9 fills it all the way.

wouldn't have gotten further in that battle if i didn't use all those summons tho. lol

Nah. Im forced to consent to invasions if I just want to coop with friends. Invader tears over it not being fair or the rewards being bad sustain me.

edit: ok i beat her finally. . with boiled crab and veterans set armour set (like 60% damage negation on my end) I could half-ass roll out of her waterfowl dance while taking a bunch of hits and survive as long as my health bar is like 80% or higher. she did it a few times this round. i only managed to evade one of them since I was far enough away.

You realize that even blue sentinels have started helping invaders en masse to track down AFK hosts because of how shitty it is.

If I have one complaint its that the various side dungeons are just a little too well hidden for how huge the world is

been using a map to clean up areas once I do an initial run through an area and some of these places are just tiny doors tucked in a random section of a cliff behind rocks

i can appreciate wanting to reward player exploration but a little more guidance towards these places would have been nice. Ive even had trouble finding some of them knowing their exact location on the map

(and yes, I know there are things like the candelabras and statues that lead you to places but even those just have to be stumbled upon)

At least they're usually just the same old caves and catacombs but yeah I agree.

Mines are good because they are actually marked on the map. Ruins are fun to find too. But caves and catacombs could use some sort of other sign that gives you a hint.

one specific example was I found the entrance to Cliffbottom catacombs hard to find even having followed that statue and having a relatively small area to look

sorry, I thought you meant stuff directly outside of the dungeon.

so those statues actually have a purpose? i thought they just served as decoration or something. lol >_>
