Yeah, it was 12 stones per tier in Dark Souls, but you had 3 tiers instead of 8, so by the end of the game you usually had enough to upgrade several weapons. In my last play through of DS 3, I had like 5 weapons I upgraded to max, just with the junk lying around the normal levels. In Elden Ring, I struggle to upgrade even one weapon to max level with normal smithing stone. It hurts the gameplay since you don't feel like you can try out as many weapons. You kind of stick with the one you put a lot of upgrades into and treat the other weapons like collectors items. Yeah this is me all the way. With a few very recent exceptions Ive stuck with the spiked club Ive had since the first hour or so playing (55 hrs in right now). wolfy42 03/19/22 12:46:44 AM #203:	You find a giant smith pretty fast that sells somber smithing stones up to 4 and there are like a million somber smithing stone 5's for some reason. 6 is hard to find, 7 and 8 less so, and I don't know where 9 and 10 are. For normal stones if you go to the mines you will get ball bearings that'll get you up pretty far/fast, but yeah those are harder to find for multiple weapons. That being said I've found the somber smithing stone weapons to be the best so far by a pretty large margin. I'm still using the wyrms blade which is half physical and half fire, and it scales on strength and faith (and a bit dex but not worth raising for that). That sword freaking tears stuff up and is way better than any normal weapon upgraded that I have found (like 2x the damage) also it does fire which has great effects on lots of enemies hehe. I do agree that it would be nice to be able to get higher tier normal stones in bulk easier/faster, so you can boost normal weapons, especially since you can only use weapon arts on them and they are (Even with weapon arts) usually waaaay weaker than the unique weapons. Generally you won't find shards that will let you overlevel for where you're at, it's good balance. --- Doctor Foxx posted... Then eventually I found a 7 and an 8 back to back so it went from +6 to +9. You can go there and make some progress early, but you should probably at least clear Raya Lucaria first before you really start to explore Caelid. We even knocked her out of the flurry move a few times. It is pretty hilarious that the devs nerfed bloody slash into the ground, but leave this in, which is better in almost every way. Certain bosses it absolutely wrecked such as the Godskin Duo, Radahn & heck it even made Fire Giant not take a million years but you certainly had to have work arounds for the bleed immune bosses: the final bosses being the most prominent. Thankfully, Rivers of Blood has pretty high damage weapon arte, which carried me through these sections. If I did it again, I would've probably used swords instead of daggers. The damage just wasn't there for the daggers against the bleed resistant bosses & it is hard to wiff punish given that your range is very short. But it is insanely fun filling that bleed meter regardless. Mostly leveled arcane as my damage stat since from 10 to 50 gave be about a 50% increase in bleed speed. Since dagger damage is pathetic anyways, I prioritized bleed, but if I were going swords I probably would've gone dex for the base damage. Fun build though, although I think I am Eldened out for now. But it is insanely fun filling that bleed meter regardless. Mostly leveled arcane as my damage stat since from 10 to 50 gave be about a 50% increase in bleed speed. Since dagger damage is pathetic anyways, I prioritized bleed, but if I were going swords I probably would've gone dex for the base damage. Fun build though, although I think I am Eldened out for now. I have so many friggin weapons I dont use. Just from this joint alone I also got the Troll Knight sword (cant use it, INT is too low), a whip sword, the Night and Flame, and one of the Glintstone pebble swords off the Burger King guys.
