The Texans need to clean house entirely if they're going to do that crap. I don't think anyone's gonna want to work for that mess, much like the Jaguars. If Shad Khan had fired Baalke, he'd have a LOT of coaches chomping at the bit to come coach T-Law. Instead, he's looking as clueless as ever by keeping the guy known to bus coaches at a moment's notice. Since the Browns are no longer the joke of the AFC (the way the Lions have been in the NFC for ages), the Jaguars and Texans are really eager to attain that title.

And if Russell Wilson can veto trades per his contract, he's gonna do it if it's to the Giants. Too much of a dumpster fire.

Honestly thinking the Texans hired an African American coach knowing the season would be a disaster and planning to fire him after just to say they did it.

Yeah, they probably hired Culley with intention of him being there 1 year. They're paying him 2 more years so it doesn't look fishy. He did okay with what he was given. He's not a coach I'd pursue for any team, but for what he was asked to do, he performed better than anyone could've expected.

Something pretty telling:

The Eagles are #1 in rushing.

#5-10 are all playoff teams.

#2 is the Colts
#3 is the Ravens
#4 is the Browns

The Ravens were on backups for half the season. What's are Wentz's and Baker's excuses for 25th and 26th in passing offense?

Also, the Chargers at #3 in passing are the only top 10 team in passing to miss the playoffs.

Because they're

21st in rushing
22nd in pass defense
30th in rush defense

in contrast, Herbert was carrying the hell out of his team.

It is pretty obvious why Baker was ineffective as a passer this season.

It amazes me that the Ravens managed #3 in rushing when they relied on a bunch of washed up RBs for the whole season.

It goes to show you how good the Ravens could've been if like, everyone hadn't been hurt immediately.

The Ravens actually had legitimately good offense numbers despite all the damage.

So which games are we all watching this weekend? I'm thinking I watch Raiders/Bengals, Niners/Cowboys, and the Cards/Rams ManningCast, but will bail if the game gets boring.

Schefter reporting that the Dolphins aren't expected to pursue Deshaun Watson in the offseason because apparently Flores was the driving force trying to get that trade done. Might be another reason he was let go if he was at odds with the front office over Tua.

I think there's a realistic chance. Most people realize he's a bad coach by now.

Anyways working until 6 today so I'll be there for the second half. I may miss Eagles/Bucs and the first half of 49ers/Cowboys (hint no one picked the Eagles).

My gut feeling says a lot of us wanted to take the Raiders, but no one actually did.

Garrett stuck around because he was Jerry's yes man. I don't get the same vibe from McCarthy.

And yeah if the Raiders win there will be a collective shout across America of "why did we pick the Bengals"

Bengals should be the favorite win or lose tbh. If they lose it happens but they are the better team on average.

I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise

I doubt Jerry Jones will fire McCarthy. Has McCarthy shown choke jobs enough in Dallas yet? Because Jerry puts a lot of trust in people he shouldn't sometimes. He's hard to predict. The Harbaugh thing is dumb because Harbaugh isn't leaving Ann Arbor. Why would he?

Rams/Cards toughest one for me, could definitely see that going either way.

First of all, some thoughts on this weekend's games:

LV @ CIN - Bisaccia vs. Taylor, somebody has to get their first playoff win as a coach.

Pats @ Bills - feels like -5 on the field?!

Eagles @ Bucs - might be more about Bucs D than Tom, but the D is also missing some pieces

SF @ DAL - I will just be enjoying how much each fanbase thinks is at stake with this game

PIT @ KC - please, Big Ben, bow out with some dignity, Chiefs are way more fun to watch

Cards @ Rams - man, NFL is brutal. these two teams are so completely all in for this year with player age and contracts and one of them has to get eliminated by the other in the first round, lol

And now, to catch myself up on the thread:

I came in ready to say that the Flores firing was completely insane. I still pretty much think it is. That team had no business having more than about 5 wins both this year and last year, and if the owner expected playoffs this year after the overachievement last year, then man, that's gotta be bottom of the list to work for. Way to turn a positive into a negative.

With that said, what KCF said about coaching staff is the first I'm hearing about that, and if indeed Flores feels a specific affinity toward Watson that drove a wedge between him and Tua and/or nudged Flores himself toward wanting out in general, I get it a little more. But still, Dolphins just let one get away. Arguably the only of Belichick's coaching disciples to have success and even beat his mentor (three times in a row).

I really hope he doesn't go to Houston, both for him as a person/coach and as a Titans fan, even though that now seems likely. In Houston he will either fail like all the rest or actually rebuild their team effectively, and the former sucks for him while the latter sucks for the Titans. Texans are too much fun for me to root against as a trash heap and I don't want him at the head of it.
Would much rather see Flores go try to rebuild Chicago or the Giants as a defense-centric scheme! I think he could find sneaky success in those places...

Okay, Flores diatribe over. Btw, I agree that Culley was set up to fail.

Oh, and count me in the camp that believes that Burrow will help the Bengals transcend the Bungles!

Looking at who is out it wouldn't surprise me if the bucs lost that game tbh. Bucs when healthy are a much better team but we aren't healthy. Will say given timeliness if we beat the eagles we are probably going to win the NFC so!

Raiders choice to not tie to play the Bengals paying off early.

Yeah, if a head coach is unable to hire and retain quality assistants, that will always hamstring you and lower your floor and ceiling. After three seasons, it was clear that coaching was always going to be an issue, and it would be hard to expect more than being a fringe playoff contender year in and year out. Independent of what may be true about friction between Flores and the front office and other character-related reports that have been floating out there, Flores was not the right coach to get the Dolphins to the next step.

Also the Bengals are my afc team ever since they got Burrow. I remember when he murdered the gators souls on live prime time tv and all I could think is 'damn'
