Joe Judge was fired after tons of speculation they'd retain him.

This deserves putting the topic up early!

Thoughts on Head Coaching Vacancies:

Raiders - Good spot to go to. Gruden did some bad things, but he had a team that was put together enough to make the playoffs. Could be the premier destination for head coaches.

Vikings - An okay spot to go to. But you'll be coaching a team that's still saddled with that disastrous Cousins contract.

Broncos - Could be a good spot, if you think you can get a QB either by trade, by free agency, or by draft. Gotta be quick about it, though. Turn things around.

Dolphins - Owner appears impatient. Team is put together pretty well at least. But expectations will be high.

Giants - A lot of work to be done. With the right GM, they can put things together, though.

Jaguars - Oof. This would get a big "Pass" from a competent HC that isn't overly thirsty for a HC position. Becomes more attractive if Khan lets you choose your own GM and you know someone who can do it. Baalke throws people under the bus like it's a sport. Don't expect to last more than a year or two with him at the helm.

Bears - If you believe in Justin Fields, the destination looks pretty good. If not, then I'd say it should be a hard pass.

The Raiders should just take the interim tag off of Bisaccia and give him a whirl.

I don't care if he hasn't "earned" it the traditional way, this team making the playoffs was miraculous.

For most owners, he would. With Mark Davis, there's no telling what he'll do.

I agree. Bisaccia has done fine in Gruden's absence. If they don't, if I were one of the other teams I'd be bringing him in for an interview ASAP.

Bisaccia definitely helped his case by making the playoffs. First interim head coach to do so in the Super Bowl Era IIRC (at least interim by firing/forced resignation of predecessor). Gruden was a good coach but he's a terrible human being.

It's great that the Giants, er, made a Judge-ment. His successor will have a lot of fires to put out. Ones that existed before they made the mistake of hiring Judge.

My thoughts from what I know are basically what Ethan said since he's who I get half my information from >_>

Guys in the mix will include Byron Leftwich (Bradys OC), Nathaniel Hackett (Packers OC), Eric Bieniemy (Chiefs OC, who should've gotten a job last year), Kellan Moore (Cowboys OC), Brian Flores (who the Fins just made the mistake of firing), Doug Pederson (former Eagles coach), and Raheem Morris (Falcons' interim coach last year, Rams DC this). I am definitely missing some. The media will throw around Josh McDaniels again but we all know no team will consider him after how he jilted the Colts. They'll also say Jim Harbaugh will get interviews but he ain't leaving Ann Arbor.

The Jaguars either need to rid themselves or Baalke or risk getting a second-rate hire like Bill O'Brien. Baalke is going to bus whoever he gets as soon as is necessary, which should cement the Jaguars as the new joke of the AFC. Shad Khan needs to be fired. But how do you fire an owner?

I think the Giants are a huge mess, but getting rid of Gettleman at least gives them a chance now and they've got two top ten picks. The potential is there, but only if you get the right GM in place. And there isn't a great QB in this draft, so you've probably got Danny Dimes for at least another year (who somehow demonstrated his value by how utterly dreadful Glennon and Fromm were; the Giants were at least occasionally frisky when Jones was playing). The Jags at least have Lawrence, who could become something if you hire the right coach.

Judge, Nagy, Fangio, and Zimmer were all justified firings. Flores, not so much.

You know what all 5 coaches have in common? They've all beaten Matt Rhule, who went 0-6 against these guys' teams

I'm curious to see if there's a big fight over Flores as an assistant if he doesn't get a head coaching job in the expectation he'll get one next year and get whoever has him a couple of draft picks.

I'm actually okay with Flores being fired. I get that I am probably the only Dolphins fan here and thus the only who one who would pay attention to this, but Flores was absolutely terrible at assembling a coaching staff. Rapid turnover and ineffectiveness from coaches wore thin over three seasons. I think Grier should also be gone, but I will settle for a coach who hire competent assistants.

Yeah, if there's one knock against Flores, it's that he had no clue what he was doing with the offense. Maybe he's just meant to be a very good defensive coordinator, but the fact that he still did as well as he did despite all of Miami's problems is incredible nonetheless.

also whether the Bengals or Raiders win, it'll end one of the longest playoff win droughts in the NFL since the Raiders haven't won a playoff game since 2003

there are only five teams that haven't won a playoff game since the start of the 2010s: Bengals, Lions, Dolphins, Raiders, and the WFT

Marvin Lewis isn't the Bengals coach anymore. He was a master of making the playoffs and losing the first game. He was only there so long because, unlike the guys before him, he actually made the playoffs.

So don't count out the possibility of a W. But also don't count out the Bungles showing up. Burrow lacks postseason experience, so...

Raiders are the team that just won't stay dead

This game really is going to be about which Bengals team shows up. The Raiders are more than capable of beating a "B" performance by Cincinnati.

It was either...

1) Win and face the Bengals, who haven't won a postseason game since the Bush Sr. administration, or...
2) Tie and face the Chiefs, who have outscored the Raiders a combined 89-23 in two games

And it's still on the Chargers for letting a team that wasn't seriously trying to score score. They were taking 35 seconds between snaps and not calling timeouts.

They gave up 17 yards on those last two run plays when the entire universe knew they'd be runs.

Texans, Jaguars, and Giants have no attractiveness at all.

Giants get to be in NY but are years away from a competitive roster.

Jaguars are actually in better shape as a team, but the owner and gm are awful.

Texans have Watson as a noose around their team and just 1 year fired a coach that had no roster. There isn't any upside there at all.
