I saw Spider-Man on December 26. Thought it was pretty boring honestly. Why is it that all the adults in comic book movies, are all either complete idiots, never around, utterly usless or die?

Far From Home was not the worst movie ever, far from it. Integrating profanity in your dialogue, when you couldn't up with better insults, kinda dragged on a bit. Could care less of seeing it twice.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were there for fanservice and not much else. Given that Dr. Strange (the ugly guy) was like U R NOT MADE FOR HAVING THESE VILLIANS AND THREE SPIDERMANS SIDE BY SIDE!1!1!

I mean it was okay. Doesn't deserve the acclaim it gets though. Or at least, I'm not sure I get what the fuzz was. But whatever, that's my two cents.

I don't really like moon knight as a character. Most of his commonly considered "good" comic runs are super dark and if Disney goes that route I'd be kind of surprised. I also don't really think those runs are actually good. Maybe the Warren Ellis run, but that was extremely short/weird for the character, and if this sticks to his basic origin story it's basically another Iron Fist.

Its actually more likely because Disney is pretty hands off when it comes to their subsidiaries. Feigie is pretty much in total control and basically just updates Alan Horn on what he plans to do.

Assuming Oscar Issac and Disney have some kind of beef with each other.

You know what I kinda hate about the MCU?

Recasting has to happen at times, and often, tv shows and movies are afraid to do it. It's a totally normal thing that is sometimes unavoidable.

But why did they have to recast Cassie Lang? Her seeing Scott again in Endgame was maybe the most emotional part of the whole MCU to me.

Cassie becomes a superhero in the comics right? Maybe they're going that route in the MCU and the original actress didn't want that role or wasn't cut out for it or something.

Finally saw No Way Home. I thought it was good, or at least my feeling walking out of the theater was more positive than it was for the first 2 Spidey MCU movies. Obviously a lot of fan service-y stuff and I'm not sure the plot all made sense but it was a fun time.

Question about the first post credits scene...
I've not watched the 2nd Venom movie yet but how/why would Venom/Brock be pulled into the MCU world? I thought it was only supposed to be people who know that Peter = Spidey.

Its a stretch at best but in Venom 2 they say that symbiotes share knowledge across all universes. So because some symbiotes know Peter is Spider-Man, all of them do.

Well that sounds pretty fucking tenuous and stupid but whatever (calling the knowledge sharing stupid, not you, btw).

I had done a rewatch of a couple of MCU movies beforehand. The first 2 MCU Spideys, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel. They all still hold up pretty well. Doctor Strange was my fav rewatch of the bunch. I forgot just how trippy and weird that movie is.

After that rewatch and No Way Home I'm really looking forward to Multiverse of Madness.

Ohh, and I forgot to mention how much I loved that Matt Murdock cameo! Was hoping maybe Daredevil would make an appearance given, you know, all the crazy shit going down in NYC but it was not too be.

Though I have to say all this multiverse stuff does have me a little concerned. Part of the reason the Infinity Saga worked so beautifully is because while it's long, it's ultimately not super complicated. Once you start getting multiple timelines and universes involved, it all threatens to get too comic-y (for lack of a better term).

Not the worst thing? 2022 seems packed already for the MCU, with 3 films (Dr Strange, Thor, and Black Panther) and with 4 shows (Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Guardians Holiday Special).

Wikipedia has it listed as Secret Invasion, not Secret Wars. Not sure if that's a different thing in Marvel lore. I don't read comics, so all I really know about Secret Wars is a bit that involves Spider-man. And considering the post credits scene in No Way Home...well...

Maybe they've had to reconfigure things because of the Fox acquisition? I know they've got a lot of stuff planned well in advance, so maybe that's caused them to need to pivot to better onboard the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters.

if you want info on comics secret invasion read here

comics secret invasion was a big event by Brian Michael Bendis that involved a multi-year lead-in that revealed that skrulls had instilled themselves in the Avengers / Shield / governments across the world. the tv show is set to be much different, as the comics involved a lot of characters who have yet to be introduced in the MCU, most notably Spider-Woman.

Not sure if I should be excited or concerned about the appearance of Namor/Sub-Mariner in Phase 4. :\ I have no doubts that Tenoch Huerta can do it, he certainly looks the part. My main concern is that he's an anti-hero that's morally all over the map, and I've heard he's slated to be a villain in BP2... that's not very nuanced.

If they could introduce a character who is antagonistic yet also not villainous in his approach, then they'd be succeeding where they haven't. Guy needs to be straight-up against some of our existing heroes for good reasons.

Knowing them, though, they'll write him to just be a bad guy who makes a face-turn later.

There wasn't really any discourse that you missed.

It's interesting because the film played a lot on nostalgia. So it is also neat to see that you liked it without that part.

Also, the Raimi films are worth seeing, at the least the first two. Spider-Man 2 is a really good movie, and Alfred Molina was better there then he was here (even though he was the best in this movie).
