Best thing about Hawkeye so far is the David Aja intro.

I've never been a Hawkeye fan and Renner is a wierdo, but this seems fine.

Steinfeld is great. Totally not just saying that because of how good she looks in that all black dress suit at the dinner scene.

...meh. it was kinda like the suicide squad, in that i had a good enough time but thinking about it afterwards, there were a lot of plot points where i was like "wait what?" there's always suspension of disbelief and stuff you just shouldn't question in these kinds of superhero movies but this movie just took it too far imo. i thought the controversial hiroshima scene was laughable, for example.

not as bad as the critics are making it out to be but yeah, this wasn't good.

Part of me feels like Eternals may also be held to higher standards by professional critics just because of movies like No Time to Die and Dune coming out recently.

About the whole Ben Kingsley thing earlier, thinking about it I probably did genuinely enjoy his performance. Just seeing an actor I like in a superhero movie doesn't automatically mean I'll like their performance - hi Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever! I get why XIII wasn't a big fan of him but still. I also still feel like Simu Liu put in very little emotion into his performance.

I was amazed when the Honest Trailer decried the climax for turning "a genuinely good martial arts movie into another battle between weightless polygons". I was not terribly impressed with the earlier action scenes (though thinking about it I get why people were), and the dragon was one of my favorite parts of the dang movie!

I actually thought the musical was pretty weak. Maybe because it was just a side piece that they didn't put too much effort into? It didn't look or feel like something that would be dominating ON Broadway so much as a local theater company taking their stab at it. It would be hella fun if they did a full length version of it that they really put the effort behind.

I imagine it is that worlds equivalent of the Spider-man musical but with a massive marketing budget. Like everyone knows it's terrible and people see it for the spectacle. It will be closed quickly.

Definitely liked this episode much more than the first two. That car chase scene was excellent. And the
scenes with Kate and Clint are better now that he's opening up more.

Definitely my fav of the 3 so far, although that isn't saying much since I just thought the first 2 were alright. Went a bit opposite to the previous ones that dragged a bit before getting good, this one started off really strong (literally got me clapping) then cooled down - although with some good character building between Clint & Kate, and as always ending with a good closer.

The whole fight scene from the hideout all the way on through to the car chase was really great though. Soon as Hawkeye got his bow with the falling arrow to free Kate it really popped off. Even Kate getting to shine in close combat, like okay maybe the slowdown for a sliding column kick was cheesy but I loved it.

Then the car chase also just a lot going for it with the camera work for the chase itself, and the fun showcase of an armory of Hawkeye's trick arrows. Love that Kate got to mess around with them since her reactions mirror the audience excited to find out what each arrow's gonna do... and holy hell the Pym tech arrow.

Back half is mostly on Kate & Clint bonding yeah, helping out with the phone call was touching. Then at the restaurant of course she can draw a Hawkeye outfit lmao, nice for her to point out the good guy in Clint too. Don't really know what the plan's supposed to be next though and it seems Hawkeye's surprisingly fine with following along... and thankfully the cliffhanger stumbles into a lead lol. Not expecting Jack being revealed with the Ronin sword so suddenly and I kinda expect this to work out with a more positive reveal for Jack than he's... clearly positioned in that closer, maybe snooping on Eleanor. I was really caught off-guard by the credits popping up though, that felt fast.

Kinda of a tame start for Echo so far, didn't really feel much greater than a grunt... but we're half-way through the show now!

Not entirely on-topic but I figured this is as good a place as ever to get some things off my chest regarding some YouTube reviewer takes on the MCU I disagree with:

-In his review of What If?, Schaffrillas asked why Party Thor was enough of an emergency for Nick Fury to call Captain Marvel over when the events of The Avengers weren't. I'm pretty sure The Avengers aren't a thing in Party Thor's timeline so Nick probably genuinely has no better options.

-I know I shouldn't take The Critical Drinker seriously at all, but he slammed Black Panther for rolling back T'Challa's character development from Civil War as if what he did in that movie somehow justified him as king material. I get why this would be a problem but wow. Then again he seemed to have trouble wrapping his head around the film's very premise (or at least that of Wakanda being a technologically-advanced nation whose inhabitants still fight with melee weapons I think), so probably not a good example.

On-topic Hawkeye is great. That episode is one of the best these shows have done yet. The car chase is absolutely one of the best MCU action scenes ever.

Also yeah I clearly don't remember these Marvel movies that well. When watching What If I was asking myself if Stane was responsible for orchestrating the hit on Tony Stark in the movie. What a dumpster I am.

I guess half the problem is the amount of time I spend on YT makes me feel like some of those guys are bigger deals than they actually are. Figured Schaffrillas would at least be the kind of guy who'd be popular around here at least, but I guess not.

I had some more to say on the Black Widow movie but the only thing I remember is that I found Yelena's character arc too reminiscent of Captain Marvel's in her movie, mostly regarding the setup of her being un-brainwashed and turning against the one who controlled her. At least Yelena was a more interesting character though. I still feel like that movie was held back by being part of the MCU (it never did anything to convince me that it was worth revisiting the immediate aftermath of Civil War, for one thing)

To be fair, there's so many Youtube personalities with a lot of viewers these days that if you don't watch that kind of Youtube content much, they are going to just be "youtube randos" because even though they have a lot of viewers, the vast majority of them don't break out beyond Youtube. It's no different than somebody not into sports not knowing a popular athlete that isn't on the elite star level, or somebody who doesn't watch wrestling not knowing a popular wrestler, and so on. If they don't break out beyond the thing they're known for, they're likely not going to be known by a majority of people.

People like mr. beast and the Paul brothers are definitely not "Who?" material, but most are.
