I was more caught off guard by that. Like, I'm not going to say the climax of Wandavision was amazing or anything, but I was if anything GLAD to see that kind of MCU action after more than a year of nothing new.

Heck, part of me wanted to rant about Scorsese's beef with the MCU since if anything it's just doing for superheroes what people like Scorsese did for crime thrillers back in the day. I also remembered Scorsese wound up leaving Joker specifically because he didn't like how Arthur Fleck would have to become a literal comic book character and decided it would be disingenuous to remain involved, meaning it IS the subject matter he has a problem with. Ugh.

With The Marvels, it's more that I felt the original film showed promise which I hope will be realized in a sequel. Plus this Oscar-winning actress not having been given much interesting to do so far.

I'm more interested in The Marvels than I was Captain Marvel, but mostly because it seems like it could be the next Avengers-lite team up movie, and I'm curious how they'll integrate the Disney+ debut characters.

The Meta narrative was that she was some sort of prize doll to be won over by different people over the course of the film series, evidently any sort of "manipulation" by her was just her trying to suss out the truth from people that were obviously lying to her.

It really doesn't go off the rails until the third film when she finally gets the truth out of Peter.

Both Black Widow and Shang Chi had bad third acts/endings. Haven't seen Eternals or Spider-Man. Recency bias aside, I don't think the MCU has had bad third acts historically. That's more of a DC problem.

Honestly I was so pissed off about the Dragon in Shang-Chi, and progressively more in hindsight tbh

I was really into the movie, I liked Wenwu - one of the better villains in the franchise imo - then this badly-shot, messy, dark fight scene with no personal stakes just...intrudes.

Eternals has a good third act, but I not only liked it quite a bit overall I was frankly surprised the film was so divisive.

On the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, the key issue with those films is the miscasting. EVERYBODYs miscast except for JK Simmons, Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe and even he was kind of an odd choice that made it work. Tobey is just not great in that role and his slightly creepy energy is weird on Peter Parker. He was also too old. Francos far too wacky for Harry and again, too old. Dunst is a great actress but did not fit MJ at all (and the character is badly handled as mentioned above). Uncle Ben and Aunt May were about 20 years older than they should have been. And what is there to say about Topher Grace that hasnt been said already? These are all good actors but just did not fit the roles.

I just wish I could actually see No Way Home but Im self-isolating unfortunately. :/

Yes, and many other places. I have a doctorate in this stuff, I literally modelled the spread of disease for my job, I know what Im talking about and community measures are not only the best way to keep everyone else safe they also make it less necessary for harsher restrictions. There is no downside to doing this for anybody but me though many upsides. Also its the law

Either way, really not the place for it. Dont see movies if you have COVID everyone. They will still be there.

i thought tobey was alright as peter parker. he's supposed to be nerdy and he pulled that off well. he was too old to be in high school, sure, but i totally bought him as a college aged dude. so when he went to college in spider-man 2, i was fine with him.

i agree that he was bad as spider-man, though. garfield still the best spider-man imo.

maybe Im not remembering right, but it feels like they made Kingpin even stronger here. He got hit by a fucking car and then kept fighting. It ruled.

and then he got shot and hes dead lol

but probably not really

but man what a messed up thing to even make it seem like he could be dead after we waited so long for him to come back

now that its over, I think its safe to say Hawkeye was the most consistently good D+ series so far. Obviously Kate will be back in some capacity somewhere no matter what, but I really hope they just do another season of this.

a) this absolutely blew way past my explanations and got me jumping up with wtfs
b) I really wasn't prepared for how much comedy they'd be packing in here
c) holy helll I wasn't expecting much Kingpin use yet and we ended up getting KATE VERSUS KINGPIN WHAT, and oh my god the buffs and wait MAYA WHAT DID YOU DO
d) I still have so many damn questions, particularly I need Jack to explain himself plz, really caught off-guard when he jumped in to fight off tracksuits and I literally yelled out JACK!
e) okay the musical is fun and all but um this really isn't what I want here

The dumb thing is Ben Kingsley and the dragon were two of my favorite aspects of Shang-Chi. I get why XIII_Rocks takes issue with them though. I do agree the villain was one of the best parts too.

Regarding "Internet randos", I post about them mostly just because I want to say something about them somewhere, anywhere. Midnight's Edge is generally an informative YT news channel when it isn't delving into identity politics - they did a good job reporting on the Fant4stic and Ghostbusters reboot fiascoes back in the day and even as late as 2019 they put out informative videos regarding the situations with John Lasseter's reign at Disney/Pixar and Sony's control over the Spider-Man film rights. I popped into a live round table discussion on what No Way Home's success "means" for the MCU going forward where the main guy said that Kevin Feige has been humbled this year. Oh really? Even as someone who didn't like Black Widow, Shang-Chi, or Loki (and barely enjoyed Wandavision) that still seems like a stretch.

The same guy also reported on The Marvels seemingly replacing Brie Larson which...what? I've never heard that anywhere else, so yeah more of that nonsense agenda plus the chat acting like she doesn't want white men to watch her movies (even regardless of language she used, how do you extrapolate that from "I don't care what a 40-year old white dude thinks of A Wrinkle in Time, because it's not for him"?). It was that plus me drawing parallels between Larson and Christian Bale (both being intense method actors without going to Jared Leto or Daniel Day-Lewis extremes, plus both being into video games) which got me excited about the prospect of The Marvels being The Dark Knight to Captain Marvel's Batman Begins.

Speaking of which, somewhere I read that Feige cited Batman Begins as an influence on Iron Man in going for a more serious direction compared to then-contemporary Marvel Comics film adaptations like Ghost Rider and the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies. Good on him.

Hawkeye finale was wonderful. The LARPers suiting up was a definite highlight for me.

The post credits scene is not what I expected but it was pretty fun, glad they had that instead of a teaser for another movie or series.

Also Florence Pugh continues to impress me with how phenomenal of an actor she is. That scene she had with Clint was A+

Anyway, Hawkeye easily my favourite of the D+ series, just very fun throughout. Would be incredibly ballsy to kill off Kingpin now, so I can't image it being the case. Wonder if they'll address how he got so powerful or if this just a different Kingpin, just played by the same actor.

Maybe during the Echo series or in a hypothetical Daredevil series theyll do one of those fun flashbacks to people getting dusted. My assumption is Matt Murdock got dusted, and Fisk was able to ascend in the five years.
Considering how directly his characterization and appearance (down to wearing black in the young Maya flashback) is taken from Daredevil, I think hes meant to be that version of him.

as for the Agents of Shield thing, I didnt watch the show so this is second-hand info, but Ive seen people say nothing here explicitly contradicts that show obvioisly theres this implication that Laura was Mockingbird because of stuff from the comics, but they never used the Agent 19 identifier for AoS Mockingbird, so they could just be two different people coexisting.
