I mean the fact that she went nuclear lends to that but her intent in hiring a freelance photographer isn't relevant to this case exactly. It just adds to the list of reasons to mistrial for the defense. That's the most important part for the trial. Being a public story also risks more attempts of this happening if there's no verdict today.

How NBC will settle the situation is different. We know their narrative but If there's proof, she's screwed and the network will play as dumb as possible.

I cannot understand this. The point is to deliberate it with other jurors. This Judge is out to lunch entirely. He just wants this to end and for him to have to not make a single ruling.

I've only seen small parts of this, but I have heard him repeatedly express the opinion that current practice does not respect jurors enough and the court system should respect their ability to think for themselves more. So it's consistent with that sentiment. Might possibly get him in hot water on appeal, but then again, courts up to the US Supreme Court have repeatedly upheld the power of a jury to nullify the law if they so choose. So he's right, the jury CAN ignore jury instructions if they want to. But the judge and the attorneys are not supposed to tell them that. Which I don't think anyone has.

As repellant as it is to me, I think as pure compromise candidates they actually might, but I wouldn't bet anything on it.

They'll undercut almost all of Trump's attacks, but what does a Manchin/Sinema ticket actually run on, no meaningful change and compromise? To what end?

Manchin... might have some general election strength but it's not some unique skill of his, you can get that kind of "moderate" cred/appeal from much better candidates.

Sinema lmfao. She would give Hillary and Trump a run for least popular candidate. Dems in her state (and nationally) already can't stand her and while her poll numbers might be pumped up a bit by Republicans they're doing so specifically because she's "owning the libs" and they'd still vote for the GOP over her. Like this gives away the game because if you want to float hypothetical tickets you're choosing possibly the worst candidate when one of the theoretical best might be the other Senator in that state - Mark Kelly would probably be one of the strongest hypothetical candidates if we play this game.

Lots of compromise and things go back to how they worked in the 80s - lots of bipartisan stuff, much of it bad.

2016 was really the opportunity for progressives. People did not trust the establishment, they did not trust centrists, and they wanted change badly. People thought the country was doing really badly economically and in other ways.

And the Democrats missed the boat. Completely missed it. They nominated the most centrist establishment candidate in history. And the boat ended up being captained by Donald Trump. Now it's sailed far away and isn't coming back for a generation at least.

McCarthy ended up speaking for about 8 and a half hours in what was a completely transparent attempt to get the record for longest House speech (Pelosi held it) because at about the 4 hour mark (it was past midnight at that point) Dems said "Sure, whatever, fuck it. Recess and we'll do this 8 AM" so over the half the time was literally pointless.

BBB passes the House 220-213. Jared Golden was the sole Democrat to vote against it. Otherwise it was a party line vote.

It's squarely on the Senate now.

Judges can have a surprising amount of freedom with things like that. That's actually a fairly straightforward order compared to some truly bizarre and arbitrary court orders I've seen reported on.

The case itself is a travesty. I almost linked to it myself yesterday. 4 minors (he was a teen himself at the time but still) and some of the details are nauseating and this judge has the gall to say he "prayed" on it and that's what he rules?

Ayyyy I don't have much else to say. It was the 100% correct result.

Mounting evidence has been slowly appearing showing the Prosecution withheld and disregarded evidence that showed that this case never should have gone to trial. The Prosecution is fortunate they weren't put on the stand about their evidentiary issues that could have landed them in deep trouble. I anticipate Kyle might be able to sue the state for all of this though, and he would be right to, since his civil rights were grossly violated.

If anyone can take away something from this, I want them to understand that the Prosecution system is corrupt. These sort of things happen to low profile cases to people of any race, political alignment, etc. all the time.

But congratulations to Judge Shroeder who was able to escape this without calling it a mistrial like he should have done many days ago.
