On 26 October, the BBC published an article headlined: Were being pressured into sex by some trans women. The almost 4,000-word article platforms a multitude of voices insisted that cisgender lesbians are being pressured into sex with trans women. It have been defended by the BBC as having gone through a rigorous editorial process, despite not including a single interview with an opposing viewpoint. One of the people actually interviewed by BBC journalist Caroline Lowbridge was lesbian porn star Lily Cade. Cades entire contribution to the story was that she once declined to shoot a porn scene with a trans woman. Over the last week or so, since the publication of the BBC article, Cade has begun posting extreme calls to violence against trans women on her blog, as well as sharing the same thoughts on Twitter. In more than one post, she explicitly called for execution of trans women. If you left it up to me, Id execute every last one of them personally, she wrote. Cancel the ever-living fuck out of this. Cancel this so hard that no man dare walk the path of the trans woman in public ever again! Enough is enough. Lynch Kaitlyn! Lynch the Sisters Wachowski! Lynch Laurel Hubbard! Lynch Fallon Fox! She added: They cant take down Lily Cade. Shes already dead. Im the bullet, bitch. Im a fucking soldier. You ready? Im ready. In another post, she compared the existence of trans people to the racist great replacement conspiracy theory, and added: If the Arabs did three per cent of what the trans women have done to your people, you would bomb them into the stone age.

In the same post, she said trans people should be killed as is the duty of the man to protect the women and the children from pedophile pervert monsters, and claims that same-sex marriage was the fall of Rome. Throughout the posts, Cade makes repeated references to the red pill, a term derived from The Matrix and commonly used in misogynist, mens rights and incel forums, which have been linked to extreme violence. Over the last few years, Cade has faced accusations of sexual assault by multiple women. She referenced the allegations in one of her blog posts, which read: If a rapist is someone who is accused in public of sexual misconduct, then I am a rapist. So, too, are three of your last four presidents, the men who sit in your halls of power, and the men who make judgments over your laws. So are all of your heroes, and you know it, and you dont care. If a rapist is someone who pays women to have sex that they dont actually want to have, then I am a goddamn fucking rapist, and your world is run by rapists. Lily Cades terrifying posts about trans people have shocked and horrified the internet, yet the BBC has remained silent.

I mean, it goes to show how fucked up shit is getting in the UK right now. The BBC posting a trans-critical article with no form of rebuttal, including a person who has outright called for the lynching of transgender people - generally, as well as a smattering of prominent famous trans people by name.

Of course, the BBC is government funded, meaning that the longer a conservative government is in power, the more likely this service is to align with their party line. You can see the same thing with the Australian ABC which is in a similar boat - the first of three Liberal Party PMs outright cut ABC funding after they overtly criticized his governing, setting the stage for today where you have Leigh Sales "holding the powerful to account" by pressing the opposition party with gotcha questions while pushing the conservative party line.

The UK is an extremely transphobic place at the moment, so the Tories have everything to gain by playing to that. Having a state-funded news outlet put out articles like this to further legitimize transphobic voices - again, including a woman calling for a mass-lynching of trans people - seems like a symptom of that.

I kept saying this in that topic that posted the BBC article a week ago but literally nobody replied except one asking for a link to the tirade on her Twitter.

This shit is why legitimizing any transphobia at the moment is fucking horrible. Because by letting things slide a little at a time, you end up at a point where society is speeding downhill towards a point where this stuff is considered tolerable "as long as she's not actually hurting anyone directly".

Before I answer this, I want to point out that this article basically consists of lesbian porn stars going "they wanted us to have sex with trans people and we refused!" - the goal of such a headline more or less being to paint trans people in a poor light, such as to portray them as predators making cis lesbians have sex with them against the will of those cis lesbians.

The thing is, those porn actresses can (and clearly have) declined - giving them this platform is just another way to paint trans people as predators, despite there being a porn scene where women can perform with trans performers if that's something they're open to, and that they're free to not engage with if they aren't. I disagree very much with the slant of the article because of that - if they're being pressured into scenes with trans women, that sounds like a bad management or production company not taking their performer's preferences into account, not some sort of predation that TERF rhetoric banks on in news pieces like this.

The industry is full of dodgers, America has performers who won't work with black people for example. Painting a picture like "trans women are trying to leverage their gender over cis lesbians!" is just another way of saying "trans people aren't valid, and I can say that through the veneer of them trying to have sex with me because that makes them the bad guys".

To address your post: porn performers have limits that they don't want to engage with. Some women have poor experiences when a shoot doesn't observe these limits - sexual assault does happen in the industry, where a performer can't say "sexual assault" or "rape" without being blacklisted. If a girl doesn't want it in the ass, you can't just take it out and put it in her ass anyway - a performer should have the right to set the limits of what they will and won't do with their body, and no amount of money should change that. You can't just throw money at someone until they do something they don't want to do - performers need that choice, that control over themselves. If there is a monetary amount to which they would engage with a sexual act, that's within their rights as well - but no means no, and no amount of money can change that.

The thing about these performers is that they were approached with the opportunity to work with trans talent, and they could say no - and they did. If they were made to feel like they couldn't say no, by their management companies or agents or whatever, that's an issue with them. Otherwise, they can turn down these trans performers if that's not to their taste. What I'm reading is that they all had a choice, they all refused as working with trans women wasn't to their taste, but the fact that they were approached by trans people at all made them uncomfortable to the point that they would use that experience to paint trans performers as predatory. The same way you can say no to a male or female performer for personal reasons, they had the freedom to turn down trans performers, and used the fact that they were approached at all as a sign of pressure and harrassment.

And maybe that sounds like I'm not giving the featured lesbian performers any credit in this equation - that I'm painting them all as bigoted in a broad stroke of the brush.

But I again have to emphasise - one of the women featured in this article called for mass lynchings of trans people. That's what I have to go off here, that a person who called for all trans people regardless of stature or influence to be killed feels threatened by a trans performer getting in touch with women performers and gauging people's interest in working with her.

To sum up what I'm trying to say: porn performers have limits that they won't touch, and you can't throw money at them to engage with someone they're not interested in performing with. To this day, we have performers who won't work with performers outside of their race - which is its own kettle of fish, and which has drawn its own controversy. But the fact is that that's a reality in the porn industry, and the freedom to set limits and have those limits respected is a good thing.

The thing about this article is that it's the equivalent of turning down an opportunity to work with a black performer, and going "I think black people are predators, they shouldn't have contacted me like that". The option to say no and work within their limits is unimpeded and available to them, but on top of saying no, they get to contribute to a nationally syndicated news article saying that trans people are being predatory and pushing cis lesbians to have sex with them. Literally all they have to do is move on and work within the pool of talent they can work with logistically and based on their values. This article comes off as incredibly mean spirited and petty because of that, because all it serves to do is amplify a bigoted point of view that continues to grow in that corner of the world through omission, exaggeration and an assertion of victimhood.
