So, this happened yesterday on a commuter train around Philadelphia. The man attacked the woman for 40 minutes. People riding the train recorded the attack with their cell phones and no one tried to help her.
Someone not even on the train, who saw the attack through the window as the train passed by, called the police, who were waiting at the next station and pulled him off of her.
What kinda shitty people watch this?

Bystander Effect was based on a fake report about the murder of Kitty Genovese(the murder was real, but the number of witnesses and the report that no one did anything are false). It's really largely untrue. Obviously you have outliers like this case, but the Bystander Effect really doesn't hold up if you do any amount of research.

The only way I can think of that made the bystanders not do anything is if the rapist threatened them and said that he has a gun and will shoot them if they try to interfere, or they thought this was some really fucked up porn they were shooting or something.

Really sad but that's the reality of America now because now it's all about me me me and people unlike decades ago, no longer care for their fellow man.

We now have homeless people, some of whom suffer from mental illness, roaming around unmedicated and unsupervised and they harass people in public on buses, in restaurants, in malls, on subways etc and no one is helping them even though some of them receive SSI checks that their families take and use for their own pleasure all while ignoring their sick loved ones.
