Board 8 > Do the majority of people not know their blood type?

I know that this is random miniscule sample of people from across the globe, but I wasn't expecting that more than half don't know.

I had leukemia, so I have always known mine and assumed others would too through a pediatrician or some other similar medical professional in the event that they needed a blood transfusion or any other medical emergency where knowledge of your blood type was imperative.

It's kind of funny that probably everyone in Japan knows theirs due to a weird astrology type thing from 100 years ago that happened to catch on big-time.

I know in the sense that it's been confirmed by a doctor what my blood type is and that the information is in my records, but I'm not going to be able to say what it is from memory.

It's just not important info 99+% of the time, and I can check my medical records in advance for that last 1%

Yeah I've had blood work done, never memorized the information because I've never needed to be able to recall it on the spot, and I'm not about to guess.

Actually, yes. A significant amount of people have no idea what their type is.

I'm A-Positive and I've remembered this since I was.... Some small child.

always thought i was O- but then somewhat recently my mom said she thought i was O+. so not entirely sure now but i know enough to vote in the poll.

My wife didn't know until we donated blood together after we got married.

I am O- and no one would let me forget that because of being a universal donor.

I legit have no clue.

It's probably somewhere in my Epic Record but IDK if I can even access that information. If I needed a transfusion, they'd figure out what to give me. I don't recall ever having a need to ask. Should probably learn just in case.

Just like a lot of things in my life, I made a few small mistakes so my blood only gets an A-

But of course, when I donate blood they don't just take my word for it. I do have a card that confirms it also.

I regularly donated from age 18-33, and Red Cross donor card indicates I'm A-Positive.

Getting the test done is expensive and everyone says I shouldnt do it randomly.

All I know is I could have just about anything since my mother is B- and my father is A+
Also I am definitely positive at least

O- and the Red Cross will never let me forget it. Plus I've never had some certain disease (I can't remember what it is anymore, but it's something that most people who catch it don't even know it and usually presents no symptoms) so my blood is especially valuable for certain vulnerable people. They basically start calling me exactly 56 days after my last donation

Its something that I learned after military basic training and getting dog tags, around the same time I started to memorize my SSN.

Also here at school we did our own blood tests during science class when we learned about blood types at stuff. It was kinda scary pricking my finger to get the blood but in hindsight it was a pretty 'fun' way to learn.

Also I was traumatised into knowing my blood type since kindergarten because there was this huuuuge campaign on TV about blood donation and accidents needing transfusions with car wrecks and people with blood onscreen.

I'm legit surprised they allowed those kinda content on TV there.

Not until I had kids. I'm B- and my wife is O, but both kids are also B-, so they are definitely miiiiiinnnneeee <_<

I think it's easier to remember if you compare blood types with your parents, and get to say "oh, I got that from my mom/dad" and figure out who would be able to donate to who
