Board 8 > Did your most wanted Smash character ever make it into Smash?

For the purposes of this question, I don't mean only looking back at the Smash Ultimate DLC and hoping your character is one of the 11 that made it. Theoretically, if you had no idea Smash Bros. existed as a franchise, and you were told there was a big wide-encompassing mostly-Nintendo fighting game IP, and you could pick one character to put in it, did that ever happen?

For example, if you really like Legend of Zelda and think Link would be a really cool character to play as and would have unique moves, Link is a legitimate answer for this poll and you would answer yes. However, if you are just a massive fan of Advance Wars and Grit and wanted to play as him in a fighting game super bad, sadly, your wish did not come true.

For my answer, for years, I thought Solid Snake would make for an awesome fighting game character, and he did in fact make it. He ended up being one of my least favorite Smash characters to play as, but that's not what this poll is about!

I got Link (numerous versions of him), Cloud, Seph, Sora, Mewtwo, Red and Squirtle. All of which are in my top 20 or 30 characters. X got a cameo for MegaMan.

Link Cloud, and Sora are in my top 5. It is debatable that only getting Crono could have been stronger.

Well, and Goku

Still waiting on Leon Kennedy(or Jill).

Well I wanted Dante more than Kirby (#2 want) but given the prompt of "a big wide-encompassing mostly-Nintendo fighting game IP" I'm not sure Dante is a reasonable character to expect?

But Dante has cameoed in Shin Megami Tensei of all things, and Devil May Cry games are on the switch.

So I'll vote no.

My answer here would probably be either the SMT4 protag Flynn or Joker, so I'll give it a yes. However, if this is how it was sold to me I'd probably be "lol whatever, can't say I care much" before either of these because I only enjoy Smash for its differences from normal fighters

Yeah, then go with Dante. That said, if your #1 wish was for Goku or Walter White or Santa Claus or something, maybe let's limit this to video game character of some capacity.

There is a reason people have yelled about Goku for years. He was the one straight up moon shot home run character they could get.

If we're assuming I'm picking a character from before SSB started as a series in 1999, probably? Link would've been up there, but Magus and Celes probably would've been high on my list too.

Yes! It took a long time, too - I've been following the series since the days of 64, I used to play it in high school during finals week, where we'd steal a TV from the A/V department and a couple of younger teachers and us would hook up the N64 for a few games. Senior year went into playing Melee instead. Then I was in college and Japan Time occurred. Seeing Sonic gave me hope, but it wound up being Snake, which was... weird. Weirder still, nothing from Capcom, which frankly surprised me due to how many of their games came from my childhood.

4's release immediately smacked me with Megaman, and a big ol' HELL YEAH (even if I don't much like playing him, compared to Lucas, nowadays) and Ultimate, likewise, hit me with Simon.

Based on the reasoning of the topic, I guess I'd think of a fav Ninty character who would fit in Smash. So maybe Shulk? Either way, I can't think of a ninty fav who isn't there, except like some weird pokemon or something.

I guess if we're going from before the original, Bowser is my favorite Nintendo character.

But also Super Smash Bros. Melee was one of my first Nintendo games outside of Pokemon and playing Mario at my cousins' house, so I feel like Smash itself has helped determine a lot of my favorites...so I guess I've largely had the opposite experience of wishing some of my favorite Smash characters would actually get a new video game.

My most wanted was and always would have been Mega Man, so not only did I get my most wanted, but I got my most wanted in what still stands as arguably the most hype reveal ever (PERHAPS barring Snake I will admit). I basically won the lottery.

because they design the human characters for boring players who want to hang out with boring humans and they design the alien characters for cool people who like good stuff

I dont remember exact data or anything, but its my understanding that human is always one of the most popular race choices in a game like WoW or something that gives you a bunch of fun options. For some reason a lot of people just want the most boring option.
