I'd like to keep Banjo but I get that he would be a tricky one still. On the other hand Bayonetta isn't as important but probably the easiest to keep.

Yeah I think aside from Sonic and Mega Man (and Pac-Man if Bamco continues to co-develop the games), Bayonetta is the 3rd-party character most-likely to remain a staple.

Yeah, aside from a list of staple veterans that would probably be pretty similar to the list I just posted, 10 or so newcomers that follow the patterns we were used to up until Ultimate.

-Newest Fire Emblem protagonist
-Retro character that people have been speculating/requesting/has potential for a revival (akin to a Pit or Little Mac)
-Retro character that Sakurai pulls out of his ass (akin to a R.O.B. or Mr. Game & Watch)
-A casual bait
-2-3 characters from brand new/newly-revived IPs
-2-3 characters from non-Pokemon/FE IPs that are already in Smash
-A third-party icon

As for Fire Emblem characters, Roy and Corrin are the most likely ones to get cut. Byleth does have some current popularity. If a new Fire Emblem game comes out he might be cut in favor of that character, but he could very well survive to compete in another Smash.

At least one of the three Awakening characters will get cut. Lucina is the easiest to keep, but if Nintendo doesn't want echoes she'll be gone. Chrom is a bit more popular than Robin, but Robin is more unique and I don't see Nintendo keeping both unless they are pushing 70+ characters before DLC.

Marth and Ike will be safe.

I'd say keep Ness and drop Lucas. He's already been cut once before (though I guess technically not since he was re-added in the same entry as DLC) and Nintendo seems to want to bury Mother 3 into the ground.

I guess the counter argument to that is that Ness was going to be cut from Melee and outright replaced with Lucas until Mother 3 was delayed, but that's literally 20 years ago.

Ike is really popular though, he occupied two of the top 10 spots of the most popular Fire Emblem character poll.

The GameFAQs forum really doesn't look THAT bad. Maybe it's because I was there for the Corrin reveal and will never forget the shit that went down in the hours/days/weeks/months/literal years that followed (specifically from the K. Rool fans who insisted he stole their character's spot, which, along with my general dislike of the character, was what made me fuming that Sakurai actually gave in and added him in Ultimate; God I've never seen a less-deserving character fanbase actually get their character in), so I'm desensitized to just run-of-the-mill bitching, which isn't even that bad today.

So, now that they are all over. In the history of all Smash trailers, is Sephiroth the quickest the normal casual would know who it was? Even if you dont know FF VII, you know One Winged Angel, and that played seconds in. And I cant think of a single other one that gave it away that fast? the overall fastest is Clouds if you were a huge VII fan, as Bomber mission played 3 seconds in, but unlike OWA, that is not something most gaming casuals would know instantly, just like the particle effect from Soras today that happened about 15 seconds in.

Someone on the Smash Board pointed out that there are exactly 100 uniquely-named characters in the game now:

89 characters counting Echo fighters (and PT as 3 and Aegis as 2)
7 Koopaling alts
1 Alph
3 Steve alts

Ya, that's exactly 100 characters. That's 100 different names the announcer yells when you pick them or when you win. That's crazy. This is unheard of in a fighting game.

Dunkey is a great example of the kind of youtuber who dresses up their videos in shitposts (and a lot of them are) but also puts his real opinions out there as well. Also in the current online gaming market, big name steamers that are directly associated with a game should be given preferential treatment. They are an enormous part of marketing nowadays. Back when the Dunkey incident happened, probably not as much, but still. There's a reason Amazon has spent tens of thousands to get big streamers to play New World.

I mean hell, look what happened when Asmongold started playing FFXIV when he was getting tired of Blizzard's bullshit. That was the key factor in the enormous player exodus that results in multiple servers having to be locked out for weeks because XIV couldn't handle the influx of players coming over. No Tom Holland commercial could pull that off and they didn't spend a dime doing it.

FFXIV is a wierd one because the toxicity banning there is absolutely (Savage) and everyone is aware so it almost never happens. Everyone just gets their toxicity out externally outside the game instead.

Don't agree with this. I've seen the examples of what Dunkey was doing and it was a perfect example of shitty LoL toxicity, and he did it extremely often, meaning the reports would have quickly piled up. That's the system working as intended! LoL is actually extremely proactive about weeding out toxicity, it's just that the playerbase is so large that the battle is neverending and impossible to win.

I didn't see any LoL admins comment to say that they were making an example of Dunkey, so if there's a claim going around that he was targeted for being well-known, that claim probably came from...Dunkey.

It's possible, but that rarely happens since that's usually dealing with uncertain details for an uncertain amount of time. It's why things like the Marvel games never get ported and end up delisted after awhile even in the cases when they do.
