It probably is, Sakurai kind of specified that his normals have more active frames than speed, but I still think he could give similar trouble to characters who aren't Bayonetta. ...I mean his counter isn't exactly Witch Time either even if it seems excessive to cause hitstun and reverse-reflect.

Wow, Sora looks fantastic! His moves seem like a nice mix of a lot of characters I love to use (Pikachu, Robin, Cloud, Chrom), so I'm really excited to try him out and feel like he could potentially be a new main for me. I think he's also a very satisfying final character who brings the roster together quite nicely. I was holding out hope for a Riku echo right up until the end of the presentation but I'm not exceedingly upset that it didn't happen.

edit: well steve and min min are fun to play as I guess, even if I am not super attached to them as characters.

Yeah, the guy who continuously won polls for most desired character by fans wasnt top 50.

Also, there were 4 Square reps. 2 of the overall most desired, the most famous villain not in yet, and yeah. Someone who ABSOLUTELY should not have been there.

Yeah just don't engage that. I'm being a big fat loser about Sora because of my active animosity towards KH, but I'm not going to go around spitting out a bunch of fake bullshit about how he doesn't deserve it.

Geno is a character with no mass market appeal whatsoever and I don't know why anyone thought he had a chance.

Nintendo would rather throw millions at a character whose going to make the masses lose their shit than spend nothing on a character effectively nobody will care about.

Geno is honestly a net negative because then it just gets people hyping up a new SMRPG that's never going to come out before every direct and throwing hissy fits after the fact when it's a no show. The Geno stans are the absolute definition of the vocal minority.

Dante stopped being even remotely realistic the second they added him as a Mii costume. Specifically that they added as a Mii costume during Fighter Pass 2. If he had been a costume in Fighter Pass 1 you could have still called him possible.

So, Ive said for years if not Goku, Sora should be the last. Admittedly I didnt for one second think Seph was possible at that time, but even if I knew Seph was coming, I still think you probably close with Sora. Being unbiased Sora getting in is a bigger deal than VII rep 2.

I do really think Crono should have made it (straight up fuck the DQ protagonist that not a single Square fans asked for) but Crono should have never been the last reveal. Not in 2021. So while I would have popped today if he made it personally, it would have objectively been the wrong call as a closer. Sora is probably a bigger character than half the cast. And of the DLCs hes probably sixth most famous after Sonic, MegaMan, Cloud, PacMan, and Ryu.

What an unbelievably perfect way to close, and anyone who has an issue with this is looking at it from just a personal standpoint of not getting your fav in, because objectively this was the strongest bullet they had left in the chamber.

Thats fair for sure. Before today the only thing I liked in FP2 was VII part 2. Which isnt enough to carry a pack.

Yeah they definitely made some rough choices in Pack 2. Sephy and Sora were really strong choices. ARMS and Tekken were inevitable but they should have selected different characters (Spring Man or Ribbon Girl, and Jin). The only thing that was okay about Pyra/Mythra was that it was a 2-for-1 deal. Steve was pukey.

That being said, the fact that we got 13 extra characters in addition to the "everyone is here" base roster is pretty fucking phenomenal.

A Minecraft rep was an obvious choice, arguably the largest game of the last decade, kid friendly, very unique...

The only issue was getting the rights to use the character which Nintendo was able to secure.

I can't agree ith that ARMS take. The annoying thing about some of the third party and even first party Smash picks is that they go with the most boring, safe representative from a series they can even when the character themselves does not have a huge fanbase, because it's the "obvious pick" . Spring Man and Ribbon Girl are completely nothing characters, Min-Min was an inspired choice. Even amongst actual Arms fans the only other character people were actually interested in was Twintelle. I would have loved if they had taken the same approach with the Three Houses, Dragon Quest, and Tekken reps.

You can be a silent protagonist and still have character. I would argue only Red (who the game clearly isnt about) and the utterly worthless Steve has no character.

Steve is the same case as DQ Hero, a bunch of character alts representing a very popular franchise
