They improved the graphics for it, but not by putting a whole new graphics engine over the old thing (so it still runs easily on older systems). It has tons of upgrades/improvements, more stash spash, more actually inventory spash (same amount for Charms but double over all), arrows/thrown items don't run out of uses, melee does splash damage, classes were expanded etc. Way better, so no real advantage to D2r at all. --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos." But they're protecting us from attractive fictional characters and combating that evil "male gaze", so clearly the corporate priorities are in proper order. So yeah... absolutely zero interest. Just the fact that many people won't give those changes up, especially just for a graphics update, is going to mean alot less people playing it. Many years of updates and changes have already been done to the game, so the background work is all there, what they should have done is bought out Project Diablo 2 all together, made some more changes/upgraded the graphics a bit more, and released THAT (charging people for it now). The original game is still fun, but they also have some rediculous things that are holding it back. You have to pay for Playstation plus or whatever it is to play online (so $10 a month), which is rediculous for instance. The controllers work halfway ok for some classes on consoles but it's auto-aim and doesn't let you choose targets etc (so mouse/keyboard is still way better but not available on consoles). The game ran like crap on many fairly new systems/gaming rigs in the beta as well. They tried to write it off as "problematic old designs", but there's no excuse for it. They hyped up how they painstakingly went to great lengths to make everything as close as possible to old D2 (just with updated graphics), but completely screwed that part up. Sucks for anyone playing on consoles though - no lobbies is going to ruin it.
