Do you think he should retire?

83 y/o Liberal Justice, Stephen Breyer is hinting of retirement as progressives have been pushing for his retirement given his age as he tells Fox News Host, Chris Wallace "I don't intend to die on the court. I don't think i'll be there forever" as he is being pressured to step down before the 2022 elections.

Wallace played a clip of late Justice conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, who did die while serving saying that you have to be mindful of the politics of the president who gets to decide your replacement

He admitted that it is something to consider that if a Republican president got to choose his replacement, the court could undo everything he did in his career and said "I see the point. There are many considerations, many many considerations"

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has been calling the clinton appointed judge to retir so Biden can replace him with a younger, liberal justice and not to have a repeat of Ruth Bader Ginsberg scenario

Sen. Amy Klobuchar also said that it was his decision to retire but that if he was going to then he should do it sooner rather than later

The party is expressing anxiety as the justice could hold on until 2024 which is not a guarantee of a Democratic President and Breyer could end up dying in the next 4 years and be replaced with yet another conservative which would then be an ultra conservative majority of 7-2 though John Roberts is seen as more moderate

He is part of the liberal wing which is being reduced at a fast pace when Donald Trump replaced judges with 3 conservatives..

Breyer is also against court packing as it would betray the trust of the american people and was much against the abortion case when 5 of the justices ruled against blocking an abortion ban that Texas has announced

Do you think he should retire?

He needs to retire. RBG not retiring when she had the chance could result in women losing access to abortions. The stakes are too high to be selfish.

Yep, RBG thought she would live another 10 years and was in pretty good shape all things considered just a few years ago.

She was dead wrong.

Considering that the Democrats control the whole process, it's an ideal time for it.

You'd probably look like a cave goblin too if you were a woman who had men sucking your entire life force out of you your entire life

I like how American politics is like this, red scare but against Republicans.

It's not exactly baseless. The Republican-dominated SC is pretty much why Texas' new abortion laws are going through, and if they get away with it, you can expect other states to follow suit.

Perhaps Republicans shouldn't have such odious policies, then.

Edit: Btw, what you just said is a tacit admission that the SC justices that have been appointed are partisan party hacks instead of the impartial judges they are supposed to be. There are not supposed to be "Republican" or "Democrat" SC judges.
