Doesn't 'Dark' type mean 'Evil' or something in Japan? I figured that's why there's confusion for that one in particular, in English it's thought of as similar to ghost or anything black, but in Japan it's tied to some moral idea instead.Yes, and this is why it's weak to fighting, because they decided that fighting was the good to dark's evil. --- darkx Games beaten in 2021 - 33; Most recent - The Last of Us Part II ... Or why Tangela was the exception? Exeggcute's line was part Psychic too voltch posted... Though some pokemon confuse me with their dual typing cos they look like they could have 3. I read an interview at one point that said that they made Lugia Psychic because Psychic was seen as the best type since it was so overpowered in Gen 1. It'd probably be Dragon/Flying or Dragon/Water with Levitate if they made it today. --- ""Love" is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope." Thats why so many Dark moves reflect dirty fighting, like Sucker Punch and Fake Tears and so on. It did expand somewhat to include general darkness stuff, since they probably had trouble coming up with Special attacks out of the original theme, but in general that was the intention. I think in gen 1, most of their grass type ideas simply also fit poison type. Zubat/Golbat has indeed had that unique type combination always (Crobat obviously not counting as something new here). In fact, every unique type combination from gen 1 that is still unique is part posion. Ghost/Poison and Posion/Ground (if you count Nidoking and Nidoqueen as kinda the same line) are the others. Jynx was also unique until gen 8 though, while everything else stopped being unique from gen 5 rolled out or earlier.
Its true that a bunch of Pokemon could've had three types and it seems random which one is omitted. Often flying is one of the three. --- Guinness Book of World Records is the name of the diary that belongs to azuarc, the winner of the Game of the Decade II guru contest. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Also, Victreebel and Vileplume's lines were last second additions, based on the fact that they're even behind the Pewter Museum fossils in index number. Take them out and it's just Venusaur's line that's Grass/Poison, which would have given us one Grass/Poison line, one Grass/Psychic line, one Grass/Bug line, and one pure Grass.

Yeah, but Ice type moves are much better on Water types, who usually learn Ice Beam and Blizzard and aren't weak to most of the top offensive types. You're usually much better off using an Ice type move as a coverage move than on an Ice type.
Although, it'd be better if we had more Ice type glass cannons than just Weavile and Galarian Darmanitan. Part of the problem is that GameFreak has no idea how to build an Ice type Pokmon. --- ""Love" is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope." Yeah, Ice types are rare, typically defensively built and often accessible very late just to top it off. Makes it a horrible type as a whole.
It's pretty clear that GameFreak was more reserved about the dragon type early on. Gyarados and Charizard are the best examples, Gyarados in particular with the random flying type, but how incredibly rare it was in the first two gens really highlights it. --- Guinness Book of World Records is the name of the diary that belongs to azuarc, the winner of the Game of the Decade II guru contest. ... I live for making teams with weird typings/unexpected not-in-OU Pokes, even if they aren't ideal.
