I havent watched much of Teddy but I was definitely never impressed by Mitch and would consider him similar to Lock.

Trubisky was undermined by his situation. He's not great, but he's better than Lock.

Because let's be real that's how most of their drives are going to go.

We're going to see two things this season:

How much Goff held the Rams back
How much the Lions held Stafford back

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Goff's biggest fault his inability to read any defense that was remotely complex? For example, the Bucs game where he fully embarrassed himself with some of his worst QB play, because the defense kept disguising coverages.

The Lions may be a disaster this year, if he still can't read a complex defense.

That Super Bowl really exposed Goff because the Pats would wait until the coach couldn't talk to the QB anymore and then completely change their coverage.

Says Zach Wilson has a Mahomes-level ceiling and we'll be very quickly talking about him as a Top 3 QB in the league.

romo - my dude - he plays for the jets. you can't be a top 3 qb on the jets. if the jets had drafted mahomes he'd be like a backup in minnesota right now because he looked mediocre for three years and we traded him for like a 7th round pick.

Wilson is a flash in the pan who played 1 season against a ridiculously soft schedule after being thoroughly mediocre before then.

Anyone buying in is a fool.

I saw him play against the Vols two seasons ago, and he was not very good. He hit one deep ball at the end to help them win the game, but it was the result of our defense completely botching the play and leaving the receiver wide open.

I only saw bits and pieces of the preseason but the snaps of his I did see were basically not defended so this very much feels like a mirage to me.

Unless defenses in the regular season also won't blitz and will at the same time play soft coverage on receivers which I'm cool with but I kinda doubt it! But I mean the Jets O-Line was being beaten consistently even with that so who knows maybe they won't even bother with anything more serious!

He's going to bury Saleh as a coach because his organization decided to take a flyer against a quarterback who will immediately regress from his monster numbers the moment he faces anything resembling a real defense. If he turns out to be, say, a top 12 quarterback, it'd be mildly surprising. I was mocking the Jets when they made it obvious this was their pick and I was mocking them after they made this pick.

His last year of college is irrelevant because of his opponents. The preseason is also irrelevant because his opponents were barely there. All you have to do is ask the 0-16 Lions, who when 4-0 in the preseason.

Everything about this guy has screamed "mirage" from the moment he went from a nobody to someone shooting up the draft boards in the span of a month or two.

I did hear this statement came from a reporter covering the joint practices between them and the Packers, though.

"You can tell which team ended the season 2-14 last year and which team ended the season 13-3." For a preseason practice, that's scalding.

Oh yes, the Bears got a quarterback that's far more likely to have success than the Jets did.

After completely crapping the bed on trading two first round picks and then some for Mitch, it's surely a welcome change for them!

Yeah that was the 2018 pick they got

they dealt one of the 2017 ones to the Saints who picked Kamara so the Bears ended up being the third most successful team from that trade

Not going to question the 49ers "winning" the trade but when you get that many picks and then get even more picks out of it from other trades, you'd expect them to hit on more than just one of them! Whiffing on the 3rd overall pick is rather egregious too. Basically, Bears lose, 49ers missed a great opportunity, Saints win I guess though we'll see how good Kamara really is without Brees dumping off to him every other play this year.

Now that I think about it, Watson might have been an even worse choice than Trubisky, assuming the Bears sign Watson to a massive contract like the Texans did.

Pace just keeps falling upwards (and with how weird the NFC is this year it wouldnt surprise me if it continued)

I always hate the argument that the Bears could have had Mahomes. Like yeah they could have but literally nobody had him ranked as the best QB in that class. It was either Trubisky or Watson leading up to the draft. Personally, if they were going QB I wanted Watson...not so much now but at the time yeah. And I guarantee you that if the Bears did draft Mahomes instead of Trubisky it would be Mahomes backing up Josh Allen in Buffalo right now instead of Trubisky lol

Pace also does well drafting in the later rounds which covers up some of dumb draft day trades and a pretty shit record in the 1st round.

Yeah, I think one of the most overlooked things when it comes to QBs is that where they get drafted matters a lot. There are very few QBs out there who will succeed regardless of who drafts them. There's a reason why certain franchises always seem to have good QBs (Indianapolis, Green Bay) and certain franchises never do (Bears, Jets).

tbf, it is still a lot of things going right for an all time QB to be at KC. We had literally gone 35 years without a drafted by us QB winning a game, the Jets could at least do that.

So maybe Mahomes would have been great everywhere.

Darnold has a lot more help in Carolina than he did in New York. Better RBs(CMac/Hubbard), better 1-2 punch at WR(Moore/Anderson+ he's worked with Anderson before), the best named TE in ages(Tommy Tremble) and an O-Line collectively better than what he had in NY(if Carolina had a Becton-caliber lineman it would make a difference by leaps and bounds).

Really it comes down to how serious he takes the second chance, how well Joe Brady plans around his particular skills and whether the defense fixes their positional gaps. He can certainly be what people presumed he would, but he could also be Sam Bradford 1.1.
