They should just keep Ken Jennings as host. He's a bit awkward but he did a great job with his stint as guest host.

Mayim Bialik would also be fine as a full time host. Sanjay Gupta was also a great guest but I doubt he'd want to be pulled away from his medical career.

According to NPR, it's official as per a Sony press release.

I don't know how the Mke Richards thing will change that, if they give her full time hosting duties or if they will bring in a second host for when she is off filming "Call me Kat"

Nothing would make me happier (where Jeopardy is concerned) than Mike Richards stepping down as host, considering he sucked at the job and pretty much gave it to himself.

In general, it was stupid that Ken Jennings was DQ'd for old tweets (which he shouldn't have made) yet they were handing the job to Mike Richards despite his own bad conduct... or, should I say, he was almost handing himself the job.

Good riddance, though. He was one of the worst of the guest hosts and I'd debating not watching Jeopardy when I heard he'd be the host.

Johnny Eagle posted...

I'm 90% sure that Mayim didn't want to be a full-time host so it's highly unlikely. She's already booked as a host for tourneys an special events, though.

Funny how the people who constantly rail against "cancel culture", usually for people who have done far worse, suddenly don't mind it when it happens to someone they don't care about.

Not defending him in any way, their (his own?) choice was a huge fucking miss and I'm glad they walked it back.

...he literally did worse than a guy who he excluded for doing less than he did. If thinking of it as "cancel culture" triggers you, think of it as comeuppance because Mike Richards used the pretext of a cancel campaign to bump Ken Jennings out of the running (for some old, off-color tweets that were stupid and shouldn't have been made) so he could get the job for himself. Of course, the really damning part is that *this* is what got him in trouble, not the sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits he had the studios settle for him. More than anything, the hypocrisy of making Mike Richards the host was staggering, but the studio ALREADY went to great pains to cover up for his previous issues.

Mike Richards was a lousy host who used a controversy to take the job from the frontrunner people actually wanted so he could give it to himself, despite the fact his history was worse in every single possible way (and includes some illegal conduct).

Just seems worse now. Lots of people have made mistakes in the past. Sometimes before they were in the public eye. Said things they maybe shouldnt have. But many apologize. Giving them a second chance is fine. And I think they deserve a second chance. Many people just immediately say they shouldnt have a life because of something they said as a young teenager. Its just dumb Honestly, I just really hate it

that isnt a culture

That's incredibly disingenuous.

People don't complain about the concept because people get upset about things and stop supporting things. People complain because there is absolutely an Internet subculture (fueled by sites like Twitter and Tumblr) that actively engages in brigading, doxxing, witch hunting, and actively using the power of the excessively vocal minority to belligerenly silence or shut down anything that offends them.

The acceptable scenario is "I don't like this thing therefore I won't support it". But what we're increasingly seeing is "I don't like this thing, therefore I will actively oppose it so hard that you can't enjoy it either, because fuck you and your opinions."

This isn't actually a new thing - 20+ years ago pissed off assholes would occasionally brigade special interest groups to attack things they didn't like by targeting advertisers or artificially inflating negative feedback with organized complaint letter campaigns (and it was absolutely a behavior that spanned both sides of the political spectrum). The Internet has just made that shitty behavior much, much easier. And because Internet social culture tends to skew far more Left, you're more likely to see lynch mobs going after targets on the Right than you are on the Left (which, in turn, is why you'll see people on the Right complain about "Cancel Culture" more than people on the Left do).

Who cares, his selection was a farce to begin with and nobody liked this guy. It's not going to set some kind of precedent because this thing already happens and there is already little consistency to "cancel culture".

I definitely think there's an element of them wanting to walk back a bad decision without necessarily acknowledging why it was such a big screw-up, this was just a convenient excuse

And wrestling probably partially owed becoming really big in thanks to him.

But ive always been a you can hate the person but still enjoy their work kinda guy.

Aaron Rodgers did surprisingly well, he was prepared, he was quick to respond; I didn't have high expectations for his two week stint but he really did a good job. A couple of the guest hosts could potentially live up to the expectations of the job, but Aaron was by far, the best of the bunch.

People are even calling for him to return to host, and he is apparently willing to do so.

He grew into the role, and I think his replacement will have to as well.

I remember seeing an Alex Trebek interview or on another game show just before he became the host, and he was joking that he was a horrible choice and would probably be fired in a year or two. And if you ever saw Jeopardy episodes from the first few years he was host they are like night and day compared to later years. It took him a long time but he eventually learned how to do it. Do any job for 36 years and you will get used to it I guess.

Whoever replaces him I think just needs to do an OK job, and be willing to improve as need be. Do that and in a few years you will have a Drew Carey situation.
