Should Biden Resign over this? (Poll Question)

There had to be a more responsible way to coordinate an exit strategy. What has happened is inexcusable. That said I cant imagine the Trump administration doing a better job, it likely would have been even worse.

I posted a bunch of thoughts on this in Zeus' thread and don't care to go into detail, but suffice to say Biden very much inherited a shit situation from Trump, where Trump had negotiated a deal with the Taliban for the US to expedite releasing Taliban prisoners in exchange for the Taliban agreeing not to attack US troops while they accelerate withdrawal from the country (in a hastily worded, oversimplified nutshell - I'm on break at work)

That's not to say Biden couldn't have handled it better and doesn't share in the blame in how the withdrawal and subsequent collapse to the Taliban in Afghanistan is playing out, but hell naw should he resign over this.

Hilarious, considering that this is Trump's plan that Biden is executing.

Which, yes, is a fiasco, but Trump doesn't exactly have much room to criticize here. Four successive administrations - including his - bungled the Afghanistan file and at no point did the US seem to understand what the fuck it was doing there.

The sad part is that many Afghanis were hopeful of their future, and the future for their children. Breaks my heart seeing pics of children being turned away from schools, with the girls being told they will be unable to return. Hearing women are unable to walk the streets freely. Those kids deserve better. Everyone there does. I hope in light of this clusterfuck the US and international community open up a robust refugee plan for the Afghan people, and does everything they can to help people get out of there who want to leave

The problem with that idea is Kamala will take over, and she's even less qualified. And even if she resigns, it goes to Pelosi and she's terrible.

It also hearkens back to when, during the election, there were conspiracy theories that Biden was just getting elected so he could resign and put the unpopular Kamala Harris into office.

Yeah, it's pretty fucking horrible. Afghans were given false hope and shown a better way of life only to have it yanked away from them... conversely, I guess it's also a return to life other people wanted, but still...

There's a difference between going through with a bad deal and executing it this poorly. I'm fairly certain the Trump deal did not include "abandon all bases overnight and leave all the equipment for incoming Taliban to take while we rush everyone to the airport and have to start airlifting people out of embassies".

Yes, ultimately Trump struck the deal (which, incidentally Biden didn't follow through on considering this was supposed to happen back in March), but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been handled much better.

Don't try and shift the blame from someone who definitely shares in it.

I think the most shocking thing about the evacuation, and why it looks so bad for Biden, is because what happened far exceeded even the worst case scenario predicted by military leadership (which is why the Taliban has the chance to get so much purple loot).

They'd been fighting a war for 20 years and it's never been more apparent that they didn't understand the situation at all.

Wasn't the withdraw date set to 5/1 by Trump in his agreement with the Taliban, then Biden completely ignored that for completely political reasons? I never heard any good explanation why he broke the deal and why he wasn't prepared for something like this after breaking said deal. Regardless, it just looks bad. I am happy to be out of that money pit
