EDIT: Ideally, you want in with one stack of Infuriate used, as well, so you don't waste the CDR of Fell Cleave when you rage out.

Storms Eye is usually up! Especially now that AoE resets it. Only Viewing Cutscene can stop me.

Also it's not really a waste of cooldown reduction if I have 2 Infuriate up to begin with. I'm getting 8 Fell Cleaves on pull! Just need to make sure I use my first Infuriate the as soon as I get my 5th Fell Cleave off.

Even in a situation where you enter an encounter with 100 gauge and no Eye, you can just Onslaught, apply Eye, and you're back at 100 gauge.

Also in general for WAR if you aren't using gauge on Upheaval every time it comes off cooldown you're doing something wrong. It's your most efficient use of gauge up to something like 16 enemies or so.

Yeah that's the one thing I really need to get used to probably just need to move it to hotbar 1R instead of onslaught even if that's not my muscle memory at this point. Neither is going to cost gauge in Endwalker though, so the lack of devoting even a minute brain cell towards gauge maintence for either is going to make that even easier.

I should specify I am have FUN as Warrior now, which up until level 60 was not the case. High impact smoothbrain game play is a hell of a lot more enjoyable than low impact smoothbrain gameplay, and Warrior is boriiiiiiing until Shadowbringers.

Really I have no idea which Tank I'm going to end up maiming. I haven't played Dark Knight since leveling and that was the same situation I used to be in as Black Mage where I was completely incompetent from a rotation standpoint when I was playing it so I don't know how it ACTUALLY feels.

Yeah, it is. Heck, Doton is only a potency gain over a Katon in AoE situations if the mobs stay in/are alive in Doton for like 3/4th's of the duration, too.

There are some cases where putting Doton down before the boss comes back from a phase transition is a potency increase I believe but its really pretty niche super tryhard stuff.

Single target Doton is a gain in two situations:

1) You put it down pre-pull and Hide (resetting your Mudra cooldowns) and then the tank pulls the boss into the puddle.

2) You put the puddle down during downtime in a situation where you would otherwise overcap Mudras and the boss spends an appreciable amount of time in it.

Obviously both of these are tryhard elitist bullshit that are not at all required to clear content casually, but rather are things that a top 1% player might do trying to move their 99 parse to a 100. Using Doton on one target in other situations is a bad idea, though.

Shouldn't you be using your prepull for Huton? Unless the prepull is long enough to get out both, and starting out with the Huton extension combo.

Also Re: Main I'm not sure what I wanna do yet. I have mained Ninja since shortly after Heavensward came out (I originally played ARR as a Bard, hated what they did to Bard in Heavnsward, swapped to Monk for the story but ended up not liking it, then swapped to Ninja and have played that since). I kinda wanna main a new job its been so long on that one though, but I'm not sure what.

I've pretty much decided I'm not going to swap main roles (so no Tank or Healer), I probably don't want to do Monk, I'm not super partial to most of the casters (Red Mage is okay and I am interested in Endwalker Summoner but I doubt I'll main them anyway), which basically leaves Samurai, Dragoon, Reaper, Bard, Machinist, or Dancer.

And since I can't play Reaper til Endwalker is out, can't really form too much of an opinion on that one.

I've played all 5 of the others up to at least 70 and I have Bard and Samurai at 80, and I can say I prefer playing Samurai to Dragoon, and I don't really have a huge preference on ranged, but aesthetically for going through the story I think Machinist would be cooler to be than the other two.

So basically my options are Samurai, Machinist, or Reaper to swap to.

Gotta finish leveling Machinist and decide between that and Samurai by the time Endwalker comes out, then put the winner up against Reaper as what I have most fun playing and want to main.

Depending on where you stopped, yes. The big thing with bard is reacting to procs, and the proc rate increases dramatically going from 60-70 so the job becomes much, much busier. The dot tick proc rate doubles and Empyreal becomes a guaranteed proc, then burst shot also upgrades its RNG. You already have the full chassis at 60 though, apart from Apex Arrow and the aoe counterpart to Sidewinder.

Wiped 4 times befire the party disbanded on Dohn Mheg as Astro because the new RDM had no idea what to do on the goat. We kept trying to explain what to do with the tethers but when ever we said "stand on from of the glowing lines" and they kept saying "what lines" and "do I stand in the AoE?"? Also never got themselves out of the plant traps.

Honestly I've only seen toxicity like 3 times ever and this was the first time I'd almost say it was warranted, though I actively tried to prevent it. Though the tank was also being a dipshit. "This mechanics has been in several dungeons before this" which is a lie.

I stayed and 3 new players joined right away, the tank saw where I was standing and said "oof, I can guess what happened here", and then we proceeded to finish with the cleanest clear in history. Nobody even got turned into a frog or fell off the highwire once.

It's a delayed AOE heal. The buff gets upgraded if you cast either Helios spell, then heals everyone when it falls off or you hit Horoscope again.

So basically you can just use it as an extra burst heal by using Horoscope, casting Aspected Helios, and then popping Horoscope. Pretty simple, just a nonsense tooltip.

I was inspired by unlocking role quests to finally try playing something other than melee dps. Did a few dungeons as DRK, then went on Reddit and saw a swarm of threads talking about how it's in a miserable state right now (and apparently moreso in EW?) compared to all the other tanks. Is it really so bad? I love the aesthetics and know it ultimately doesn't matter at all so I'm obviously going to keep leveling it, but I do find the discussion somewhat interesting.

Dark Knight is completely fine. It's just the Scholar situation where people are salty it didn't get any super fancy looking abilities. The only REAL problem is that they didn't move Blood weapon to charges instead of a timer for Endwalker like most similar abilities did.

Nothing in Endwalker is actually in bad shape...well I guess there's some controvery that Gunbreaker's No Mercy DPS window doesn't work anymore timing wise?

You're not wrong but I don't know what to tell you other than the overall design philosophy has been the same since Stormblood. At its core DRK has been managing meter, managing MP with a flexible oGCD (regardless of how many times per minute you hit the button), and TBN.

I'm really not trying to discredit you but to explain why the general perception is the way it is. You obviously know what you're talking about. My experience with DRK is playing casually in dungeons and trials - compared to how it was when it was introduced, the job feels basically the same to me now as it did in 4.0. This casual perception is obviously going to dominate conversation. My friend who has mained the job since Heavensward and raided on it is giving it up because the progressive streamlining of it and the tank role have removed the things he liked about it in 3.x. Shadowbringers did not really address any of the issues he had with the job. I think the major issue he had wasnt the cpm being too high, but that most of them were Dark Arts, so it was busy but boring. Now it's just boring to him, so he is considering going GNB to get some of the complexity back.
