I don't really love Leylines either, but that's probably because I'm bad at using it effectively in a lot of fights (or just straight up forget about it after the first use).

that's actually pretty accurate. i love high dps, and every time i have to step outside of the circle i feel the pain

if they removed the cooldown and/or dps bonus i'd probably like it more. if it was just a teleportation circle that'd actually be pretty sweet

if i was a bit more serious about the game i'd study up and memorize exactly when and where i'm supposed to place ley lines in every fight and maybe it would be pretty satisfying to display that mastery... but my time & friend group in the game has been more casual than that

back when i played wow mage might have been my favorite class, but i always specifically opted out of their ley lines equivalent talent

First full party wipe during a dungeon in dzemael darkhold

Everyone wipes at least once in Darkhold. I'm surprised you wiped there instead of in the big chamber right before the first boss though!

I mean it's always one of those two places, but more often the first.

At least when you wipe in Aurum Vale next, it's going to be in the first room!

anyway stuck with summoner and im hitting buttons and things are dying so thats good at least. storyways ive learned the big assassination plot was a ruse, dragons are on the move, and im running with estinien looking for iceheart. not caring too much still but i know it gets better

also do i really have to go around and get aether currents to fly augh

Once my Paladin hit level 50, I started doing black mage on the side because I didn't want to over level a single class too much before hitting the expansions so I had a second class to soak up all the extra MSQ exp

However this was all intended from the beginning as freaking with the dark arts is what corrupts her and leads her down the path to eventually becoming a Dark Knight as my main class

Without going too deep into it, this might need to be revised once you learn how Dark Knight works story-wise in 14.

I completed the Aurum Vale....but before I talked to the guy in front of the dungeon to progress the Immortal Flames quest so it didn't count for that

Aurum Vale only has it's reputation for that first room. As long as you don't get screwed there it's honestly an easy mode dungeon.

Well, and as long as everyone knows when to eat fruit, but that's just knowing the mechanic and has nothing to do with actual ability.

Darkhold is waaaaay worse.

The second boss there used to not have AOE indicators (this was just the mechanic for how cyclopses worked) and would occasionally destroy newbie groups. Plus, while it's very little of an issue while synced down, people frequently run it undergeared which makes it MUCH worse for the tank and healer.

Oh, so THAT'S why that Cyclops has more vibrant AoE indicators on that backwards attack than anything else in ARR. Always wondered about that!

Now this is a take I can get behind!

I think the only other competitor is Copperbell Mines which has extremely obnoxious mechanics on top of being boring but at least it's trying something...? All 3 of the tutorial dungeons I have literally fallen asleep while running them, but I can give them a pass because they're tutorials. Toto-Rak has no excuse and I do feel like it's more frequent.

also thought i would set up crafting/gathering again and boy do i not remember any of it either. there is that new trial crafting thing i guess that would be a good way to figure that out again

and should i be doing anything with squadrons right now? im assuming its a thing to do after im done with msq but if theres a grind involved i might should start on it now?

Squadron stuff caps at 60 and exists almost purely to level up DPS jobs to 60 without queue times.

More importantly is the weekly source of 10 +30% EXP scrolls.

Leveling up the squadron members is time-gated since you have to do dispatch missions so yeah, might as well get started on that in advance.

Although I guess you could level them by spamming their dungeons too but sounds miserable.

Beast Tribe quests unlocked

now to ignore them unless I end up needing a reason to do them.

The expansion ones give okay xp (especially the crafting/gathering ones), but the main reason to do them is that they unlock some mounts/minions/etc

I recommend avoiding the (non crafting) ones until level 60+ anyway, because it just makes moving around those areas easier

The pain with ARR ones are when you have to do specific FATEs

Looks like I have 14 msq's left in ARR before I hit post-game patches

Probably take a short break after that to catch up on other games. I've just been rushing to be able to do the ff15 event before it goes away again

Wasn't having much fun with BLM until I hit level 40 and then it suddenly became very fun

He's scheduled to have a chat with Yoshi at TGS, maybe if he makes that point it'll finally convince Yoshi to fix the ancient Mogstation site and make buying the game easier.

Yeah the full design is probably beyond Yoshi-P's control, but it can't hurt to make him more aware of the issues.

I for one want to see if Sakuguchi can bait Yoshida into letting out some FFXVI tidbits like Yoko Taro did during a Live Letter.

It's almost like Squeenix wants the biggest possible audience for Endwalker hype and deliberately invited the streamers with the largest audiences to the media tour.

Oh for sure, it 100% makes sense. From a pure numbers standpoint he's easily their #1 streamer. Streaming FFXIV wasn't even a noteable category be for him, really.

It's also an especially tantalizing opportunity for the public image of "longtime WoW player who was banned from Blizzard stages invited by the head of FFXIV for a personal interview".

I more mean to just imagine someone saying that 4 months ago, lol.

I imagine the marketing team and dev team are having quite the internal conflict between "capitalize on the insane hype for the biggest launch ever" and "THE SERVERS ARE GOING TO EXPLODE"

Finally got my 200 S rank achievement

These last 20 or whatever were basically torture since apparently all the new people doing hunts don't have the courtesy to wait for people to get there; my success rate in getting to a hunt heading over instantly from the ping (sitting by the aetherye beforehand) is probably like 1/3 at most.

just start spawning them, you'll get in with the 'in' crowd and start being there at the spawns. you'd be surprised how long they wait even if pings come late
