Technically misleading, because Florida is also the 3rd most populated state in the US.

For comparison, California and Texas are right up there in the top 3 for number of cases per week, and actually have more total cases overall than Florida does (though Florida's current rate of infection IS higher - but not catastrophically higher). But none of them are really ridiculously out of proportion to the population of the state.

The first major outlier is Louisiana - it's like #4 for weekly infections right now, but is like 25th in terms of population. That's a major indicator that Louisiana is fucking things up hardcore (and yes, New Orleans is a significant part of that).

On the converse side, a state like New Jersey where the population is 11th (with the largest population density in the US), but the number of cases is actually like 25th overall, implies that NJ is handling its shit more effectively, because things are a lot more under control than you'd expect from a state with that many people packed in that closely together.

Statistics can be more confusing than most people really understand. And most people don't look any deeper because it's just fun to point and laugh at Florida Man a herp derp.

I mean I am just comparing numbers to Massachusetts which is #14 by population and has the 3rd highest population density in the country, yet 1400 new cases.

Oh hey, Florida actually has data available now. They haven't the last few times I've checked.

They had fired the woman that was collecting and publishing the data and then tried to have her arrested while seizing all her computers when she continued to publish the data.

Thats because covid is so real. Everyone knows a pandemic needs constant advertising lest we forget its happening, we cant have someone actually looking into it and being honest about it

Even now, I see that they're only reporting data Tue-Fri. Country-wide, there's a huge dip in numbers on the weekends, but Florida seems to actually have nobody publishing data on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.

Not surprised, data management in releasing numbers has been an issue in every jurisdiction, in one form or another, and often it is unintentional, but Florida is an egregious case of executive interference in data management. Disruption in the flow of information because of weekends causes a disconnect between the public's perception of trends, and the reality of the trend line, from a distance we can better identify the sources and causes, but at some point we should ask how do we translate what we have learned into actionable tasks. The fundamental logistics of everyone's personal resupply routine demand that there is social interaction that allows for the virus to spread, that's just the supply chain at work as intended; beyond universal mask wearing in crowed public spaces, what can be done to halt the spread of communicable disease while allowing for the supply chain to continue operation, that should be a fundamental goal of analysing and implementing solutions based on the data.

But again we have flawed data sets based on what is released by jurisdiction, so analysis will lead to models of correction based on excess death numbers and in time we will have better perspective. I would like to see what causes of death are below Covid and Opioids on the list, and see what anomalies are in the numbers.

I'm frustrated because I believe the numbers will show correlation between outbreaks and activities surrounding the logistics of payment schedules.

And logically, Florida *should* run into more problems than those states because it's more of a tourist destination and therefore the rest of the nation is bringing COVID into the state.

Did you see this?

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/08/grim-warning-israel-vaccination-blunts-does-not-defeat-delta

As the second paragraph says, "Israel has among the worlds highest levels of vaccination for COVID-19, with 78% of those 12 and older fully vaccinated, the vast majority with the Pfizer vaccine. Yet the country is now logging one of the worlds highest infection rates, with nearly 650 new cases daily per million people. More than half are in fully vaccinated people, underscoring the extraordinary transmissibility of the Delta variant and stoking concerns that the benefits of vaccination ebb over time."

I feel like we're right back where we started from, though I guess the vaccines can only help us fight off COVID if we get it. I had felt that the vaccine being created so early was too good to be true.

so about that

there's videos out there of israeli vaccination sites and the vaccine adminstrators faking giving people the vaccine.

like they'll stab people with the needle and just not actually give the vaccine, it's fucked up and is likely what's skewing those results

Part of the problem there is they dropped mask requirements and social distancing as soon as they could and immediately went on a veritable orgy of touching and breathing on each other.

I.. what... they... WHAT?!!

God god. They deserve this new wave if that's true.
