Tom looks like peter, acts like peter, and has the best suit. So.... him.

Andrew has the second best suit, but was bad as Peter, but good as Spiderman.

Tobey was a bad Spider-Man, but a perfect Peter.

Tom hits both sides well.

I mean none of this would exist without Tobey doing it first. Batman movies were important but the last few were so bad people stopped making them. Superman movies got weird real fast and never really captured what the comics were about.

Spiderman hit the mark waaaaay closer and had waaaaay larger profit margins. Movies didn't start making the CRAZY money until Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, and Titanic, and the latter two were super in depth expensive projects developing technology no one had ever seen. I suppose the star wars prequels go into that too

THEN

Disney started making insane, holy hell shit your pants money with their stuff. And now we're watching the film industry cannibalize itself

tl;dr Tobey did it first and so should rightfully get credit for that, he's also a better actor by miles than the other two based on his other performances.

He can get all the credit in the world for doing it first, but that doesnt mean hes the best Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Although like I said, he was a perfect Peter, just missed the mark when it comes to Spider-Man.

Spider-Man makes quips constantly in combat to hide how afraid he is, he doesnt pause in the face of danger, he is actually capable.

He lacks quips.
He freezes all the time
By the end of 3 hes still fighting like he did in #1. Never seemed to learn.
And mostly: The largest part of the WHOLE character is his scientific knowledge; something Tobeys character NEVER showcased. Spider-Man works on new webbing, suits, tech to help him fight, Tobeys got organic webs and... that was the end of that aside from mentioning his college classes and his conversations with Ock.

Honestly, I like them all, but Tobey and Garfield both played really hard into one aspect of the character, and not enough in the other side. Tom got the chance to see both and do it right. Without them, Tom could quite possibly suck at the role, but he had the advantage of previous iterations to learn from, and he did.

dang you have a good point
studying what they did right and their flaws to give people the Spider-Man they wanted

Kind of reminds me of the way naruto is extremely successful but pulls inspiration from the DBZ spectrum of influences

its cool that the poll is that close of a call for Tom and Tobey though

perfectly even as of now. I think they all deserve their own credit, and I wont bash the others in favor of mine. I don't have any genuine insults for their portrayal of the character, I just think Tom had the biggest advantages, and used them well to make a pretty accurate depiction of the character, even if it isn't a 1/1; but it's closer to a 1/1 than the others.

Just to say; I'm a HUGE comic nerd, so I may be opinionated; I'm not trying to pass my opinions as fact.

Andrew > Tom > Tobey

The Sam Raimi films had high production values, but Tobey Maguire was miscast. He was alright as Peter Parker, but he didn't feel like Spider-Man. He didn't have the cockiness down pat. It was like making a Muhammad Ali movie and not letting him trash talk.

Maybe Spider-Man was more humble in the 1960s when Sam Raimi was a kid, but that's ignoring several decades of development. I would say you might as well put Batman in blue but Hollywood did that too.

He wasn't, in fact he was more of an ass in the earlier stuff IIRC. Well not exactly, but Spider Man 100% learns he needs to actually be a good person to be a superhero.

I think Garfield is underrated as Spider Man. The first one was great, and while Garfield could be "too cool" he still rocked the whole awkward outcast thing Peter Parker has.

Though I think Tom Holland has all the potential of being the best Peter Parker and Spider Man if only he was given an actual Spider Man story. Holland's Parker is way too cool and way too MCU focused. Peter Parker should never have the whole "king of the Nerds" thing he has in the MCU.

Holland's Spider-Man is just business.

Disney doesn't own the movie rights lock, stock, and barrel, so they're trying to utilize Spider-Man's popularity while still positioning their own heroes to be cooler.

This is all I can really say.

Tom Holland is just...eh to me. Mainly cuz they spend too much time on him worshiping Tony's existence and making him just generically awkward. He doesn't really feel like Peter or Spidey outside of a couple scenes. And in Far From Home, he basically didn't even have a character arc -- he was just dicking around, being told to do stuff by Fury.

I really want to see how Sony will handle his Spidey in their non-MCU movies, and hopefully this third MCU movie will step away from the Stark stuff and just let him be his own character.
