https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/30/politics/major-biden-dog-white-house/index.html

The Bidens' dog Major has been involved in another biting incident that required medical attention, two people with knowledge of the incident tell CNN.
The incident, which involved a National Park Service employee, took place on the White House South Lawn on Monday afternoon. The employee was working at the time and needed to stop in order to receive treatment from the White House medical unit.

First lady Jill Biden's press secretary Michael LaRosa told CNN that Major is "still adjusting to his new surroundings."

Kinda stupidly, the way they're talking suggests that nothing is going to change even after a second biting. Apparently Biden also doesn't always leash the dog (he was leashed during this attack) while walking him despite the dog already having bitten somebody >_>

One law for us, another for them.

At any rate, I'm not sure that's a federal law so it might vary area to area and there are probably some additional caveats on it. That and Biden could pardon the dog anyway.

...because that was a claim made by a press secretary looking to minimize the incident. However, the simple fact that medical personnel were involved means that the bite was serious enough to draw blood because you're not taking somebody to see a doctor over a bite that didn't even break the skin. More importantly, this is the SECOND person he's bit this month and it comes right after he finished being "trained" after the last bite. You might want to pay attention to those facts instead of only looking at what a press secretary says.

And it's not my "narrative," this is all literally what the press is saying.

Uhh, I don't think there are laws where you put down a dog any time it bites someone.

It's not a matter of "any time," some states have laws for repeat offenses and may euthanize after one severe offense. Generally when *any* bite happens, a dog can be taken from the owner but that's usually because a complaint is filed. Very few people are going to file a complaint against the president, unless that president is Trump at which point they'll look for anything they can find... which is probably why Trump didn't have pets.

Yes, I'm sure Trump didn't have pets because he was worried that if he ever became president that wouldn't be enough to prevent people from complaining if his pets ever hurt somebody. That sounds very plausible.

Being nipped at by a dog isn't the same as having a dog lock onto your leg and shake it. Even if a dog bites you and draws blood - the dog isn't bloody sent off to the gallows.

I think ROF wants to wait until it kills somebody before taking it seriously... -_-

Actually, given that an owner can be charged when their pet kills somebody, is that something that could actually take Biden out of office or would he have absolute immunity? I guess even if Biden's dog killed somebody -- or even if Biden did it himself -- they'd need to have an impeachment hearing and there aren't nearly enough votes to impeach.

Is it a rescue?

Yes. I can't remember how recently he adopted it, but one article notes that the dog is 3 so he must have either got him while campaigning (which is a weird choice) or just after the media announced he'd been elected.

Zareth posted...

Big dogs in general can have more issues relating to aggression and more serious issues when that aggression occurs. Major is a German Shepherd, which is kind of an iffier breed given their long and weird history of eating peoples' faces (and, in many cases, *just* their faces even when other food is available)
