A friend asked me this question the other day. Assume all 200 men and women are 25 years old. No diving any deeper in semantics.

The average woman is significantly weaker than the average man. I would say the average woman is significantly weaker than a weak man. I reckon the only way a woman would win is if its a strong woman against a weak man, and even then itd have to be a very strong woman. Thats my opinion.

Your opinion isn't backed up by stats which put the differences between the average man and woman much closer.

Yeah I feel like if this was a random distribution of all 25 year olds with no restrictions, Id put the number at like 15 or so. Five is way too low.

You have to understand what your opinion is saying. There's exact %s you can calculate based on your poll options. If you give the average woman a 3.5% chance of winning, then you would expect 0 to win 5% of the time, 1-5 to win 50% of the time, and 6+ 45% of the time (binomial distribution).

So your opinion here is that a woman would win 3.5% of the time in this matchup.

In other words, you would expect to make a profit betting $100 to win $104 in these matches.

People are saying it based on the current progressive talking point of men and women are completely equal and have the same strength. It's obvious nonsense.

Men have roughly 50% more muscle mass then women. If we are taking two average 25 year olds and not giving either one advantages or disadvantages like being a fighter or being super overweight, then the only way the women wins is if this is a no rules fight and she manages to get lucky and kick him in the balls then push him over and keep kicking him until he gives up. If we were talking an actual fight with rules like no low blows and cheap shots? No way in hell does a woman win more then maybe a few lucky matches, if even that. There's a reason men and women don't fight each other in actual regulated sports.

Well there are two ways to look at this.

Taking averages it would obviously not be like 100-0 because there is a bit of overlap somewhere there statistically.

On the other hand, if we're taking the odds and just applying them I would bet my money on close to 100-0

The woman could fight dirty right out the gate. Crotch shots, eye gouging, etc. She could also use things lying around as a weapon Im assuming. Without details on whats allowed its basically a street fight and things get a lot more unpredictable in those types of situations.

But at the average level the difference between men and women is MUCH smaller. Plenty of slightly above average women could defeat slightly below average men. The average weight difference betweens the sexes is like 10-20 pounds.

There's not enough available information but I feel fairly confident in 6+ unless there's shenanigans in matchmaking. If it's random matchups across a random distribution of 25 year olds you would get 6+ and if everyone involved is around the average 25 year old for their gender it's 6+ too.

Also, how many women, on average, engage in fighting / training compared to the average man? Much fewer. The only way a woman wins, like I said, is if she is very strong. This includes experience in fighting.

Just ask yourself how many women you and your friends have dated, and compare their strength to yourself and your friends. For me, none of the girls would come even close. But thats my experience. Maybe others have dated very strong women and have very weak guy friends.

The odds of randomly picking 100 women and it containing one woman who is very strong, e.g., has experience fighting, training, etc. is less than 1%. And even if you get that 1%, she then has to be against a man who is weak. Im saying theres a less than 1% of those criteria being met.

Maybe I am overestimating guys strength. But at the end of the day, even a super skinny, introverted recluse who never exercises and is passive will have a massive advantage over his average female counterpart.

makes no sense if a super skinny man is like 130 pounds and the average woman is 150-160. Where does this massive advantage come from then?

Fighting isnt all weight...

Like less than 1% of the population regularly engages or has any training in combat that really has no bearing for me.

The difference in strength between two men of 25 pounds difference is less than the difference in strength between a man weighing 25 pounds more than a woman.

True but it's still a fine enough metric. Like just knock another 10 pounds off the man then.

The odds of finding a strong woman who must also then go against a weak man is less than 1%. Thats what my opinion is.

Thats why I said with no rules its too unpredictable. Now its about the specific men and women in each match-up and we have no data beyond them both being 25. Maybe the women would fight dirty and the men wouldnt. We dont know.
