Yeah, I'm kind of thinking of just lessening my position sizes and keeping a bunch of cash on hand instead, so I can sort of hedge the market. Average down if my stocks go down (but not until the market looks good again) and just find new stocks that are still at good prices if the market goes up. I would probably do that instead of pulling completely out, if I choose to take any action.

It could easily just be September again, in which case we would already be near the bottom and then it resumes going up. Or it could be the beginning of a bear market. Hard to tell.

I am going to go out on a limb a bit and predict that it will take a long long long time before Americans as a whole go back to their pattern of spending more money than they make. 2020 has left a lot of people a lot richer than a year ago, because they have stopped a lot of their spending and instead put the money in the stock market. People aren't going all the way back - a lot of those expenses are going to be seen as unnecessary, as happiness did not go down a lot when they stopped happening.

Like, am I going to sell stocks (or put less of my paycheck into buying stocks) so I can go back to eating out every meal? Probably not going to do that very often. When you don't have any money and you do have a decent income it's easy to spend all of it buying things you don't need - because it seems like you wouldn't get anywhere investing. Well, 2020 made me realize what I should have known years ago - a dollar spent is lost forever while a dollar invested tends to grow. I mean I knew this before but now I know it at an emotional level.

It's contrary to Keynesian economics which is trendy these days in politics but I do believe that in the long run, a higher savings/investing rate can be a good thing for the country. Spending is not the only thing driving the economy, and a 0% or negative savings rate, such as the US had for maybe 15 years before 2020, is not necessarily a good thing. If saving too much money instead of spending it was such a bad thing for a country, China, which historically has had the highest savings rate, should be the poorest country on Earth (I guess Keynesians would argue that even 40 years ago, it basically was).

So anyway, if I'm right, this whole reflation thing the market is worried about is going to be a bit overblown. When the economy opens up, people will keep on putting their paychecks into the stock market. I've got shares only though, so the strategy for massive red walls of everything plunging is fairly simple - hold, and buy more if you can. If you have calls you've got to worry a lot more about the timing.

I think that people still went out if going out is what makes them happy. In a weird way I think some of the people that locked themselves in their living rooms for the past year are almost 'happy' as a result. It became their identity.

I do think we'll see people taking money out of their RH for houses and vacations in the next year.

DKNG earnings this morning. I think it'll get a little bump but a lot of insiders can now sell their stock options and I think that they will. Do I sell and take my nice profit? Do I hold and believe in the stock long term? I feel like I need to get back into the habit of not trying to take action every time something happens with one of my holdings. That's the one habit I got into last year that I need to get away from.

Yeah, the pandemic gave all of these people a socially acceptable reason to be pathologically introverted. And the worst of them claim that they are "sacrificing" when in reality, doing nothing but staying inside and consuming media is all they've ever dreamed of.

Bitcoin dropping to the 25-30k range short term would absolutely not surprise me, especially with recent events in the market. That would also probably dip Tesla stock pretty bad. I can imagine there are plenty of people in both that are not true longs.

I would load up on both so hard.

Stock Price

And yeah I mostly play options with it but it has a good dividend (which should improve to a great one) and I think $22-$24 is around the bottom and it should grow into the 30s within the next year

Let's not forget that a dip to 30k is still like a 500% increase from a year ago. BTC is absolutely breaking through the six figure ceiling in the next few years.

I'm holding airlines as well, though I've only put in like 2.5k, so I wasn't nearly as brave as SephG.

Also, only a chunk of that is nearing the 1-year mark. I bought Delta just a few weeks ago and am already up big! Either way, I don't expect to sell my blue chippers for years.

Institutions have rotated heavily from tech stocks to recovery stocks. I'd wager most airlines are still a buy right now even after their recent moves. I'm hoping for AAL to drop a little bit more before I dip my toes back in personally, but I might not get the opportunity I want.

What effect do you guys think a stock split has on market cap? CP Rail (CP.TO) has an upcoming 5 to 1 split. It's currently $467 so that'll bring shares to under $100

I've noticed many people have this internal idea of "how much a stock is worth", like if something is $30 it seems good but if it's $90 it's overvalued, but that line of thinking I think is mistakenly assuming every company has the same number of shares outstanding. A company that sells for $300 or $30 with 10x the shares is valued the same after all. Theoretically a stock split doesn't change anything about value but I wonder what in practice actually happens. My gut is that market cap would increase but I haven't looked into any reading on the matter.

Though the one tangible benefit is being more accessible to people with less capital to buy.

I recently signed up with a broker that has zero commissions on CAD stocks so that's why I happen to be looking at this. I'm also looking at the Score since single game sports betting is going through parliament in Canada right now. I'm not sure if they'll actually end up being the ones benefiting but I do know a lot of people in my personal life use it to follow hockey news. Hockey pools are very common so I do imagine it'll go somewhere.

Just recently had a USD offering though so not sure if the current price is right. It was for $27 and the price has tanked to just above that so maybe this is where it holds

Score was already on my eye from the esports app and I kind of want to find things in the gaming world that are worth investing in... but I tend to hate all the publicly traded gaming companies....
