I bought so many mediocre games at B8's urging back then. Although it made up for that by recommending Phoenix Wright, so eh.

I'm not sure if B8 has ever steered me wrong with game recs, actually! I'm trying to remember what I played because it was really big on here early on... Tales of Symphonia? Skies of Arcadia? Phoenix Wright, of course.

Visually, Yuri is Diet Sakura. Im sorry, I dont even mean that as an insult, but come on. She looks like Sakura, she has the same color scheme as Sakura, the only difference is that she actually wears a karate gi. And this series, boy oh boy, at least Sakura comes from a series with the decency to name all of the games Street Fighter Something. Having weird, ambiguous, shifting titles is not what you want to do when youre only the sixth? biggest fighting game series. Lets see: Smash, Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur, am I missing anything?

Yuris personality is more distinct, though, and thats to her benefit. Sakura is kind of annoying. Yuris cheerful and confident, but angry at being coddled by her father totally fair. Although, her favorite food is listed as mild curry, yeesh. Super spicy curry or go home, girl. And she hates octopi? Who hates octopi? Octopi are like the coolest weird ocean animal, get out of here.

Look, Ill level with you: there is very little to make Yuri stand out from a crowd of fighting game waifus, little sister waifus, or even generally kindhearted action girl waifus. Her only shtick is that she originated as a nothing character you rescue from bad guys, then she becomes more important in later games. Thats fine, but its all shes got. So, although Ive placed Yuri in the upper half of the list, and theres nothing wrong with her per se, understand that shes in the top 5 most forgettable and generic waifu nominations. She could very well be #1.

Why did they make Splash Woman a girl, anyway? Such a strange move on the nineth entry in the series. Not that Im complaining, Im just confused.

So, Splash Woman is a much stronger waifu than I initially expected. Likes karaoke, rescues shipwreck victims, and she shoots lasers out of her trident. All of these are benefits. Like, really, shes basically a lifeguard/first responder, which is a perfectly fine waifu job. She also has possibly the best body type ever for cosplaying as Ariel, which may also be helpful. Like, shes actually got the makings of a really solid girlfriend, which surprised me.

but other than that, Ive got nothing to say about her. Shes a robot master, what else is there to analyze?

Regardless, she is also pretty badass, I mean, helping to free escaped slaves adds a good bit to your Girlfreindness score. I admire a woman with ambition after all.

Besides that, you all know her story already, so I won't go over the finer details. Needless to say that you could all stand to learn a thing or two from her tenacity. I have to say I know very few people that can match her in physicality or life accomplishments, two factors that are very highly considered on this list. Is Sailor Moon the oldest thing thats had waifu debates from the moment of its creation? I cant think of any older franchises with waifu debates except Archie, and with that the waifuness is half the point. Anyway, yes, it goes without saying that Ami is the best girl in the show, but one thing Ill briefly say here is that Mercury is the second least hot of the Sailor Scouts. Im going to briefly throw this out there: Venus > Jupiter > Mars > Mercury > Moon.

Her Girlfriendness is actually slightly more complicated than youd expect. She wants to be a doctor, and in at least one continuity she is one, but shes also a superhero. Doctor is basically the best possible job you can have, but superhero is probably the worst. Yes, its great to be able to talk to your friends about your relationships and then casually drop the my girlfriend is a doctor bomb, but when shes going to spend all of moonlight fighting evil, going to the movies with her is going to be a nightmare (not that movies are a thing anymore anyway). But then again, shes also good at video games and she paraphrased Terminator in that one episode where the guy is like my destiny is to turn into a monster, so shes really just being weighed down by this one major detriment. And as far as personality goes? Amis a bit shyer and more withdrawn than my ideal waifu would be, but shes also got your standard anime girl determination, so it balances out.

Thats the thing with Sailor Mercury, I guess. Shes a balanced waifu, but not in a normal way of everything is just sort of good about her. Shes got a lot of really good qualities and some not-so-good ones that cancel each other out in an interesting way.
