Im listing Angela as a yes, I played her game, but I havent finished it.

I dont normally have an opinion about sub vs dub. If you want to hear an English voice actor or a Japanese one, sure, whatever. No skin off my back. Personally, I always use dubs, but Im not super invested on this side. Angelas English voice acting is so bad and so Valley Girl that I thought this must be it, this must be why people use subs, I bet her Japanese voice acting is amazing compared to this. So, I searched out a clip of her original voice acting on YouTube, and she sounds like every high-pitched annoyed anime girl ever. At least English Angela sounded a little weird and unique even if she was terrible. Where am I going with this? I have no ****ing clue. But in all seriousness, why Valley Girl for a princess? She should sound like some pompous British noblewoman or something.

I get serious Marle energy from Angela. Hm, which game came out first? Chrono Trigger! by six months. I guess 1995 was just the year for rebellious princesses. Being impatient, lazy, and kind of dumb doesnt really help her case, either. Like, shes well into the conversation before she asks the main character his name. And yet, as far I ran away from the castle lol excuses go, my mom tried to sacrifice me for evil magic is probably the best excuse youll ever have, so I cant even really give her a hard time for most of this.

I think Angela is also our lowest-ranking actual princess. Shes not really an adventurer in the same way some other waifus are, so she doesnt get docked points in that regard. Normally, princesses get a massive boost to their scores, but in Angelas case, shes like basically an outcast and is completely terrible at all princess-related things, so she only gets a moderate boost to her score.

For some reason, I had her hair listed as red in my notes? I have no idea why. Point is, Im going to have to reduce the number of total redheads by 1 and increase the number of purpleheads by 1. My mistake. Otherwise, the main thing of note regarding her looks is that shes very tall, which is interesting. Like, she is noticeably taller than the main hero of the game, who even with his giant anime hair, is still shorter than her. Thats a neat attribute for a waifu to have, I approve.

Overall? Angelas a solid waifu, but compared to the very strong lineup of JRPG waifus of the mid-to-late nineties, Id say shes only average. Its shocking how many quality waifus that era of the genre has, though it may just be because of how many damn JRPGs got released back then. Thats something this nomination list is actually a little weak on: there are only two mid-nineties JRPG waifus on the entire list.

You at least *start* with Terra, and there's a scene specifically where she has to accept being a hero.

I picked Riesz the first time I played. Therefore she is the main character. Considering the story tailors itself to adjust to whomever you pick first, altering the villains and everything, it's really not possible to lock it into one character.

I have played one game in this genre, which is the original Hyrule Warriors, and I was like Im glad I played that, but I never want to touch a musou ever again. But literally as I write these words, Im downloading Persona 5 Strikers, so I guess Im a giant hypocrite and a liar. Oh well!

I like how Kai is described as a tomboy despite dressing like any random anime feudal Japan warrior girl. Has trouble finding a boyfriend because shes not feminine enough, give me a break. This is like every Hollywood movie ever with an ugly girl. This girl would be beating away men by the dozens.

Kai is not the only super high attractiveness, middling other stats waifus yet to be revealed. Shes not technically an adventurer, but being a soldier and a bodyguard for a lord whos constantly fighting people in feudal Japan is basically as bad. Dont get me wrong: shes energetic, pleasant, heroic, and shes got some fun dialogue, but its nothing amazing as far as Personality goes.

I also cant help but notice how her battle quotes always emphasize her femininity? Almost every single one mentions how its rude to hit girls or something. Although, I do like this quote:
It seems the age of cute girls has arrived!

A lot of people are going to be sad to see Mothra drop or at least the jerks I hang out on Discord with. Mothra being this high at all is purely an artifact of the triple waifu category system, because if Id just directly assigned scores, shed have been in the bottom twenty on the grounds of being a giant moth. As an aside, Mothra dropping lowers our live-action waifu count to just two.

But Ill say this: a normal giant moth would still not have gotten this high. Moths are cool, but theyre also kind of gross up-close. Mothra is a great example of a moth because shes not gross up-close (or not up-close, but still being big enough to see all of her details from a mile away). I would say that Mothra is the second least gross moth in fiction, after Venomoth. By human standards, shes still not especially attractive, but shes definitely very cool. If a human waifu was wearing a shirt with her wings coloration, I would be completely on-board with that.

Personality-wise, what, you think being a giant moth is a problem? First off, Mothra isnt attracted to bright lights that cause her to fry herself to death, which is an attribute I expect in any quality waifu. Second, she isnt destructive and doesnt cause collateral damage except when protecting Earth from larger threats, and even then shes still the most considerate kaiju around. The only thing that actually upsets her is threatening her eggs, which is completely reasonable.

And as far as her Girlfriendness goes, you know what? I bet you thought I was going to complain that she cant speak, right? Nope. Because she has two twin Japanese girls following her around who can psychically speak for her, and they live on the island that Mothra owns. This is borderline princess territory right here, folks. Sure, it sucks that I cant fit Mothra into a car and go driving with her, and it sucks that Ill have to take an airplane and just meet her at our destination, and it sucks that shell have to go and help Godzilla fight some giant monster every two-to-three years, but dating Mothra would come with an almost immeasurable number of perks.

Overall? Mothra is among the most solid of waifus, if you are sexually attracted to giant moths.

A waifu nominated literally because Braze searched up the silliest anime premises on Google. Heres the premise of the show:

In a world very much like our own, great race horses of the past have a chance to be reborn as horse girls girls with the ears and tails of horses as well as their speed and endurance. The best of these horse girls go to train at the Japan Horse Girl Training Center Academy, hopefully moving on to fame and fortune as both racers and idols.
Well, okay then.

I wonder if this is the most obscure anime waifu on the list? I dont know. I ask that because I know a lot of my explanations of waifu personalities are unnecessary for the very weeby B8, but I bet this time the explanation is. Basically, shes very into racing, and otherwise acts kind of aloof, but really cares deep down inside. Fine. Pretty standard stuff.

Looks-wise, she's very generically anime cute. I should note that the horsegirls have horse ears, but I couldn't find if they also have human ears. I looked and could not find a single image of the horsegirls in the show without hair over the sides of their heads.

The interesting element to this waifu is that she technically qualifies as an athlete, right? Thats a difficult waifu job to rate. Real life athletes basically have a job until theyre in their mid-thirties at best, then if theyre lucky become spokespersons for weird products. But I guess Suzukas an anime athlete whos like the best, so presumably shes in this for the long haul, which gives her a little boost to her Girlfriendness. Because being an athlete is a cool job for a waifu, lets be clear. I guess it comes with the downside that shell probably be traveling a lot, but its not the same kind of traveling that like an adventurer would be doing. Like, Ill still be able to keep in touch with her, etc. And saying my girlfriends an Olympic runner is a pretty enormous bomb you can drop into casual conversations as well.

Honestly? I think shes up here as another artifact of my ranking system. I dont foresee a horsegirl whos dedicated to nothing except running fast being a great waifu unless you are Sonic the Hedgehog. And we know Sonic is into human women because of Sonic 06 and that hes not interested in Amy, so ladies he is available.

Sidenote: the horsegirls in the show are based on real life race horses, and Silence Suzukas counterpart broke his leg and had to be euthanized. She breaks her leg in the show, but heals up and continues racing.

Wikifur says they're commonly called fishies, while some people consider them a subset of scalies, and at least one person lumps all aquatic fursonas into the "aquatics" category (which feels incredibly lazy for a name, but it's not my place to judge).

So, I don't think there is a definitive answer.

I honestly couldn't tell you the names of who was in my party. Pretty sure it was a thief dude. I played an early emulated version of it literally 20 years ago and forgot nearly everything about it.

Let it be known that when I went to google Makoto Nanaya, I accidentally googled Makoto Naegi instead. Im calling BlazBlue, Danganronpa, and Persona as the holy trinity of weeaboo games. Disagree with this if you dare. All three have a Makoto who's a playable character. Coincidence? I think not.

Makotos hotness varies quite a bit by picture. The big issue here is her eyes. In some pics, she looks normal, and in others, her eyes are more semicircle-shaped, which is off-putting for sure. I think in those pics, the artist is trying to emphasize her squirreliness, which is probably a lost cause even with her giant tail and ears. But my rule is to use the best pic of official art in normal costumes, so I went with her humanest picture. Can I just say, though, that Makoto has maybe the biggest case of underboob Ive ever seen? That cannot be comfortable.

Makotos got Standard Anime Waifu Personality #27, that being enthusiastic, cheerful, loyal, but very dumb girl. The only time shes not one of these things is when she gets angry at the main villain for being racist at her, which, okay, but hes guilty of like destroying dimensions and timelines by that point, thats the least of his crimes. But hey, shes a good person and all that, so you cant really dislike her at all. Like, I imagine it being easy to get along with her, and thats important.

Makotos Girlfriendness is harder to nail down, though. Shes basically an adventurer, but she lives in a world where travel is easy, which reduces some of the issues, but she still spends most of her time fighting world-destroying threats, which, okay, cant exactly fault her for that. However, in her joke ending, she declares that she wants to have sixteen kids, which is waaaaay too many for me, sorry. Can you imagine having sixteen kids? Every day would be a living nightmare even before you factor in the guys who want to destroy the world. According to Google, a squirrel pregnancy lasts 44 days, so this is a threat she can definitely carry out, too. Also, Id have to replace all of my chairs with ones that let her giant tail poof out of the backs, which is possible, but will be moderately expensive. I dont even know how shes going to work in a car.

Overall? I definitely see the appeal Makoto brings to the table, but she seems a little too high-energy for me.
