Damn. I knew he's had a lot of fallout from recent events, but it was way worse than I thought.

There needs to be a separation between your online persona and the you in real life. I had a really long conversation with a prominent youtuber about a year or so back and he was adamant that if he didn't have his real life support circle he would have taken the criticism the wrong way at some point and done something stupid and probably hurt himself. There has to be an escape, even if you've objectively done wrong, your friends will acknowledge it, but support your recovery. When you don't have that in person support circle, and a mistake results in self-isolation and loathing resulting on you compounding the bad decision with more bad decisions you wind up in a downward spiral because your support circle wasn't supporting you the individual, they're supporting you, the content creator. They don't know you, they don't know your struggles, they aren't your friends, they're your fans. And if you conflate the two and all of a sudden your fans are mad at you it can seem like all your friends have turned on you.

It's sad. It's getting harder and harder for people to keep separate aspects of their life that allows for an escape when things go bad in one area.

Hopefully Ezscape/Darkviper don't hold themselves responsible for this, or they'll wind up in the same dilemma that brought Apollo to this point.

I mean even with the whole settling with that fucker Billy doing a bunch of fucking SLAPP suits, Apollo probably did what he was legally advised to do as that was gonna be cheaper with less long term repercussion. But I think people basically took that as Apollo taking the money and running.

It's all bullshit honestly. He was still too young and not loaded that something like this happening was not gonna accomplish anything. In any case, safe to say Billy is a fucking murderer on top of being a petty cheater. Don't really care about any justification otherwise, in my eyes he is.

I've watched like a sum total of maybe 15 minutes of Keem in my life, and always thought he seemed like a jerk.

I think, for some reason, we collectively forget that these people are marketing a persona and often shift accordingly to what their audience wants/what generates more views. Who we see on the screen isn't always who they truly are.

We can easily separate an actors role in a movie from their real self, but the line is a lot more blurred with internet personalities. Which sadly can result in a lot of hate/criticism that ends in tragedy like this.

Really sad, but people need to wake up and see that social media isnt a place to get a career in if you cant handle criticism despite whether or not you know they're wrong because it triggers people to be suicidal especially on insta.

I did see a ton of videos shitting on him in the past year. What turned people against him?

He put up a fundraiser to help pay for legal fees to fight against Billy's SLAPP suits, and his viewers reached his goals pretty easily. But later on it was revealed that they settled out of court, and most of that money went into Billy's hands so that he can serve SLAPP suits against a bunch of other people. He probably could've been more transparent, but could be that he was legally not allowed to talk about it so openly, dunno. In any case, people were pretty mad especially because of the way their money was being used.

Damn, I used to watch some of his vids in the past year, him and EZscape too. Poor Apollo sounded like he was in a constant state of suffering like, every day. That's awful.

But yeah people are trash, what else is new? Not surprised that dickheads in the speedrun community probably exacerbated his feelings even more.

Hate generates more clicks and views then positivity will. Its just the way the YouTube, Twitter, internet algorithm works in general. You can get lost in that spiral of hatred if your main source of income is to get viewership.

I dont know Apollo but I do know people who fight depression daily and its tough battle. Its easy for me to say "its just words, ignore it" but for some those words are everything to them.

Keemstar is the kind of person who sees all scenarios like this one as a business opportunity. Note him "reporting" on that DarkViper guy privating his videos, statements like that have no purpose but to stir the pot and shine more light on drama. It's one thing to be level headed and issue a reserved statement, but Keemstar is just salivating at the opportunity to make new drama videos about all this.
