The Magic can barely field a team due to injuries with no COVID cases on the team. Last night we played the Mavs and Kleber played 24 minutes and just tested positive (judging from isolation timeline).

We legitimately won't be able to field a team if we lose people to COVID quarantine, we have like 9 healthy people now. I think the Celtics are equally messed up and we are supposed to play them twice this week

Yep. He played 12 minutes the other night after I posted that because we basically had to play him due to our roster numbers. He had to be pulled before game end due to conditioning and then did not play at all in the next game despite us being at the bare bones.

Bamba already had bad conditioning so I could see how it could affect him severely. I also got COVID in June and whilst I'm not affected in my day to day at all, anything that would leave me out of breath does so far easily now and I honestly think it might be permanent.

Magic declared a player out and then had to walk it back and declare him questionable. Likely because of minimum roster requirements. Guess we will see if he plays any minutes tonight (I don't think he does)

EDIT: Alternatively it was a load management decision and we now believe the league will shut down tomorrow and so are fine playing him.

EDIT2: Just spoke privately with a Magic beat reporter and he agrees with me that it may be the latter. No sources or official word, just that he got the same vibe as me.

Worth pointing out the Magic played the Mavericks 2 days ago. Mavs are up to 4 positive cases now. Magic have 9 healthy players before any COVID designations / quarantine/ etc. You need a minimum of 8 players for a game to go ahead.

Every team the wizards played last week had an outbreak later in the week.

I was discussing this in the discord earlier but the nba really goofed in concept with the expanded rosters, since they didn't actually give teams any room to sign new guys if needed, just let the 2 inactive guys be active, which since they're on the team anyway means they're just as susceptible of being infected as the the rest of the team

They gave the two way players more days and made it so 10 day contracts can be used earlier than normal too

But yeah should have been like extra roster spots too

tbh I like this deal for everyone BUT brooklyn because I"m in general not a fan of putting all your eggs in one basket. Even with the best team it's so hard to win a title. This has a bigger chance of putting them in a hole for a decade than it does lead them to a title imo.

Magic got absolutely robbed by the refs tonight. It's not going to matter in the long run but man it sucks

Magic up 2 with 15 seconds left. Pacers foul Fournier and push him out of bounds (like crystal clear foul). They call it out of bounds and Pacers push it to overtime.

In OT Ross is hacked down on a clear path foul with scores tied. Refs call it common even though dude had both hands wrapped around him and dragged him down with not a single other Pacer anywhere near and Ross under the rim. Pacers hit the game winner off the next possession which they should not have gotten.

Oh nevermind on the clear path. Apparently the rule is ridiculous. It can't be a clear path if you are beyond the FT line. The defender full on hugged Ross and wrestled him down to prevent the shot with not a single other defender in sight. It was a full court in bounds throw to give you an idea of floor spread.

The more I've discussed it, the less it makes sense that the rule is like that

No chance of scoring? 2 FTs and the ball back

Chance to shoot in the paint? Nah, you just get 2 FTs or possibly 2 points and 1 if it goes in.

In the vast majority of situations it's better to not get the shot off.
