My launch 360 lasted like 6 years before RROD. It was probably one of the last working launch consoles in existence.

Had multiple PS2 fails. My backwards compatible PS3 was a glorified PS2 after like a year and a half.

My Wii struggles to read games.

My NES can work with some finagling.

My SNES works a good bit better but still takes some restarts to get games to work.

My N64 is my best performing console, everything still works with little struggle.

My PlayStation works great, memory cards on the other hand...those things never lasted.

GameCube never had any issues, still works great to this day.

Wii U does anyone even care?

I'm forgetting a few consoles. The original giant Xbox performed great. Dreamcast works great too.

My PS4 is still fine though sometimes the controller just doesn't want to be recognized, Switch has awful joycon drift. The PS3 once backwards compatibility was dropped seemed reliable enough.

Gamecube was the only console I've had where the disk drive ended up failing on me during the lifespan of the console

curious, I can't be the only one still uncomfortable with these self-loading consoles am I?

I miss have a place to gently position the disc. I don't like sliding the disc in and hoping the console actually grabs it safely.

Everything has moved or been moving in this direction for years and it drives me nuts.

I went through three 360s from RRODs and pretty much every single console I've had otherwise has never fully stopped working. Also my Xbox One disconnects from the internet all the time, which (with very few exceptions) kicks me out of whatever game I'm currently playing because modern gaming has the dumbest bullshit for no reason. I've been on the phone with Microsoft multiple times about the problem and nothing we tried has ever fixed it. The weird thing is that the problem disappears for months at a time and will then reappear, upon which time it will start happening constantly again.

Besides both my Microsoft consoles, hardware has always been good to me. Well, I do have a broken GameCube where the laser disc messed up on; that could have been wear and tear or user error since I was like 13. Honestly not sure. But I still have an SNES and N64 in perfect working condition, which is incredible.

To be fair, trays had to slide in and out, too. The only time you didn't have this were things with flip tops.

My 360 is barely alive. It still works, but I have to play it with the AC on and in short periods or it red rings.

My Wii can't read Dual-Layered discs anymore like Xenoblade and Brawl.

Those are the only two consoles I have that have major issues with them anymore.

N64 - sound failed after about 8 months, had to have it fixed

Game Cube - no issues ever

Wii - total shutdown after about 4 months, had to have it replaced

PS3 - disc reader died after about 15 months. Had it replaced and only about a year later it started to go again.

Wii U - disc reader was defective on arrival. First game I played was digital so I had no idea until over a week later. Had it fixed.

Switch - 0 issues to date.

My flip tops have had 0 issues with the actual disc reading so far. Totally anecdotal but I'm inclined to trust them more.

I have an OG 360 (not launch; maybe bought 2009) and I played the hell out of it and it still works great. Guess they fixed RROD by then.

OG Xbox just doesnt read discs. Lame. Didnt even play it much. Shitty disc drive, apparently its the Thomson disc drive after some research, since they whored its production out to a bunch of companies.

my PS2s are all over the place! Ive bought a bunch over the years! Fat ones cant read CDs (PS2 or PS1), finally they both wont read DVDs either; a black slim wont even spin the disc (apparently thats because it thinks the rear lid sensor is open, and I tried to fix that with gorilla glue and a corner of a credit card; failed apparently). Lots of issues with these surprisingly!

Wii eventually couldnt read dual-layer discs.

N64s all take cartridge blowing, no problem really.

its my SNES that holds up shockingly well. I can turn on almost any game any time, no cartridge blowing, perfect results. Shocking to me.

original NES - Has the classic issue of games not working until you take them out and keep putting them in just the right way because of bent pins from side loading. People to this day still think it means you need to blow in the games. Bought a top loading NES though which works perfect and plays every game first try.

original Game Boy - large portions of the sides of the screen don't display pixels.

Gamecube - Battery is dead, so the internal clock doesn't work, which means certain games (Animal Crossing) won't work correctly, unless you manually set the time after each boot up.

PS2 - Doesn't play blue colored game discs. I don't know the logic to this.

Original Xbox 360 - RROD

Slim Xbox 360 - It works fine, but there is this weird issue where some games can't see DLC content if the game is being played on the hard drive, but they can if I have them on a USB. Tried so many things, redownloading, etc, and nothing fixed this. Honestly baffling, and no idea the logic.

Switch - Left joycon has trouble inputting 'up' on the control stick. I suppose this is more of a controller issue and not a console issue. I did drop it and chipped part of the joycon to be fair.

Man, people have a lot of bad luck with consoles. Only problems I've ever had were:

Xbox 360 got the RROD about three years after I bought it.

I didn't play my PSP for a year or so and the battery died.

Both sets of Joycons have had drift, if that counts.

Game Gear had a thick black line across the top of the screen, but I did drop it on a hard floor, so that one's on me.

I guess I'm lucky, none of my consoles have ever stopped working. I even dropped my 360 on the floor once and it's still fine! Closest thing is joycon drift on the Switch which I've had to get replaced twice, but other than that I've never had an issue. Maybe because I don't usually get launch models so any big issues tend to be fixed by the time I get one? IDK.

It's funny how much fake news is being spread about the Xbox Series X launch.

First was the smoking consoles (literally people blew vapes into it to try and cause the panic).

Now it is the disc drives failing when it has been proven that you just need to exert a tiny bit of force the first time you put a disc in because of the seals. Then it works perfectly every time after.

Like, the console warring and fanboyism on display is amazing.

I might be the only person who had a GameCube break. The cat knocked it off the dresser, but I think it still worked for awhile after that before dying

PS3 stopped reading discs eventually

PS4 had an issue where it would just eject discs for no reason, often while I was playing. I removed the eject button and it hasn't really happened since (but it has a couple times)

The weirdest think that ever happened though was my GBA SP charger just exploding when I plugged it into the wall once. The GBA was fine but the charger was toast

I dunno, the only launch console I ever had before the Series X was the PS2 and that still works (as far as I know, it's in the loft).

Thinking about it, considering they probably sold a few hundred thousand Series Xs (maybe millions, I dunno), this amount of people reporting problems seems about normal for any kind of hardware, doesn't it?

My first OG PS3 just died out on me. I got that yellow light and could never turn it on again.

My second PS3 stopped reading discs after a little while as well.

My only other console problem was my left joycon, except it wasn't drift. For some reason it wouldn't connect to the Switch unless it was physically docked into it. I looked everywhere online and almost nobody had the same problem and there were no solutions. Eventually I sent it in and I guess because it was during the height of joycon drift they just replaced it for free for me despite not being covered by warranty.

Lets see here

the first 360 I got was RROD'd like 3 times, but the third time it was out of warranty. Still, lasted me like 5 or so years, not bad for a first model.

Got a slim afterwards and its still runnin

Had a PSP that stopped reading UMDs but its because I closed a car door on it. It didn't shatter or break but I know thats what did it, so its not the PSP's fault. (It was in my sweater pocket and the sweater got caught)

Had a scare with the PS4, it wasn't displaying anymore. but for some reason it worked again when I turned off the fucking TV on and off. not the system, not replacing the wires, the TV.

Nintendo consoles still working, NES (Top loader), SNES, 64, GCN, Wii, U, and switch

I will at least say, the Wii U's TABLET stopped syncing to the system. I had to send it back to nintendo and they repaired it for free

well, also had a scare with the switch too. It wasn't turning on anymore but was told to hold the power button. Took a solid minute but that did it

the phat PS2 is the first system I bought with my own money and its still tickin to this day, as well as the 3

Only console troubles Ive ever had:

The same NES cart loading troubles everyone with a front loader has

PS1 eventually had to be upside down to read discs

Had to go into the PS2 to adjust some things as it got older to keep reading discs

Had to send the Wii in for visual artifacting issues

All of them still work

Man all these people with issues with consoles and I've never had a console fail on me through its own fault. Only failure I've had was I a PS2 stopped powering but that was after I emigrated and it was packed in my main luggage. It worked before I left and then didn't after arrival so probably loose wire from too much movement when the suitcase was tossed around.

I had like the RROD on my 360 but that's really it.

When I first got my 32X it didn't work until I left it overnight for some reason too, so that was weird.

PS2 - literally nothing
Gamecube - literally nothing
XBox 360 - literally nothing
GBA - literally nothing
DS - literally nothing
3DS - literally nothing
Wii - i lost a cable for it and now it doesnt work :(

well, now that I think about it, I think my original fat PS2 broke, but I was like 3 when that happened and only used it to "play" Madden with my dad, so I don't think that counts

My first PS2 stopped reading disks entirely after 6-7 years or so, but its replacement is still going strong (aside from a sound issue that I'm about 95% sure is cable related instead of console related but haven't attempted to figure out)

My Switch has an issue where the joycons will sporadically disconnect when I'm playing in handheld mode (And thus the Joycons are physically plugged into the device), but it works perfectly fine if I attach them to the controller-type thing instead so I dunno what's up there. No drift or any other issues though.

My SNES, N64, Wii, PSTV and PS4 were all working perfectly last I tried them, though it's been at least a few years for each of the Nintendo consoles iirc. I can't recall any handheld hardware failures (besides internal batteries on Pokemon games dying) either, and I've owned every generation of Nintendo handheld going back to the GBC

Never owned a Microsoft console though so I can't comment on that LOL

blue discs are CDs instead of DVDs; typically these were kinda low quality 3rd-party games from the early days of the console, so I dont know if there are any gems youre missing out on.

however, this also means you cant play PS1 games, I believe.

I assume you have a fat PS2, they had this problem because they used different laser hardware to read CDs and DVDs. Whereas slims used the same hardware regardless of disc type, so they dont have this issue of being able to read one but not the other. (I think thats how it goes at least.)
