I was pretty comically underwhelmed by Xenoblade's, though I also did all the endgame sidequests before fighting him.

Shadow of Mordor or Demons Souls (it was kind of the point with the latter and you could consider False King to be the actual final boss)

Yeah I don't count strictly storyline bosses as the final boss. That's like saying Press X to Omnislash is the final boss of FFVII.

Personally I like an underwhelming final boss. Usually by the end of a game, particularly RPGs, I'm kind of done with everything and ready to just stock up on potions/revives/whatever to just cheese my way to the end.

I much prefer a fun final boss. Like undertale pacifist, something that gives you some challenge but it's more just a final farewell to the mechanics

Yeah, I don't necessarily need the final boss to be difficult, but Mario Sunshine doesn't even require you to interact with Bowser at all. He might as well not even be there.

I was a bit miffed at the end of Mass Effect 1 when I talked Saren into defying the reapers by killing himself, then had to fight his ninja exoskeleton anyway. It was a pretty silly boss design even aside from the part where it undermined what felt like a seriously cool achievement

Morrowind, though that's more an issue with the game's mechanics than the boss fight itself. Regardless of whether you consider the final boss to be Dagoth Ur or the Heart of Lorkhan, Morrowind is so comically easy to break that the game quickly loses all challenge it once had if you know what you're doing (or have a rudimentary knowledge of how to use the internet).

You don't even fight Tenpenny, he just dies in a car crash.

NieR: Automata suffered greatly from auto-leveling the final boss to level 50, which is likely way way low compared to the player. That fight can literally be over in 10 seconds.

The real final boss is in ending E and is not a pushover (solo at least) at all
It also pretty amazing and unique

Id say he is; but Id count it as the final much easier form of the boss you had been fighting up to that point.

I mean, it's literally an unloseable fight. Even if you do absolutely nothing, the game will take over and end the fight for you. It's not like the third phase of a boss or something. It's just an excuse to show off Omnislash for a lot of people (like me) who didn't get it their first time.

FFX still counts because I beat the "Actual" final boss in two hits. And that's only because it has two phases so you can't OHKO it

Darkbeast Ganon and Tub Bowser are strong contenders yeah

Slick in River City Ransom comes to mind. The Dragon Twins, Randy & Andy are the real final bosses. After taking them down, Slick is just...a joke.

I never actually got to the end of Ass Creed 2, but I just brought it up because I remember a lot of people shitting on the final boss!

The actual fight at the end of AC2 isn't great, but thematically...a fist-fight with the Pope in a secret precursor-tech vault under the Vatican is anything but underwhelming.

dear Mario Galaxy 2, don't give your final boss an incredible setup and music track and then have it last ten seconds

like hot tub Bowser was dumb but you could always tell it was going to be dumb, this one just throws the world's most upsetting fastball at you
