All games should be accessible to everyone. The last of us 2 is a phenomenal game on its own, but their accessibility options should be the new standard

I used to be on the why no easy mode? train until I actually played Soulsborne games.

the difficulty is overhyped. You die a lot, but death is expected and built into the game as a mechanic. I dont know how you could possibly make the game easier than it already is. >_>

I used to avoid Souls games because people said they were difficult. Bought Bloodborne not knowing it was by same people. Almost quit because it was kicking my ass. Slowly got better and ended up platting it. And I'm so glad it didn't have a difficulty settings. These games are so rewarding the way they are.

No ones asking them to make changes to the gameplay. It's not hard to turn down statistics like damage dealt or simply create an invincibility mode for those that don't give a damn about challenge. Everyone else can still enjoy the game with difficulty if they want

so honestly, one thing i think people generally don't intuit is that this exists, and it's called leveling vit. there is no more direct an example of a built-in difficulty slider in the souls games than that number.

Health was abundant as fuck in the game. No estus flasks yet. Instead, there were consumables and you could easily find/farm them. Limit of 99.

I dont know if your outlook is quite right when you think the game wasnt meant to be fun.

Also Naughty Dog games make sense to have handicaps because the games are driven by narrative and a cinematic like experience.
The Souls games are driven by hardship and overcoming those obstacles by adapting, it would quite literally go against its very nature.

Pair them up with a heavy shield for great stability (endurance damage mitigation aka stagger resistance from from being hit a lot). Dark Souls 2 is very different and specific with armor and damage resistances, slash is basically useless and blunt weapons are king.

-Patience, because running into danger of any kind should not be rewarded without prior knowledge/experience. You can back up and see how enemies attack, how to fight them. You can use your camera to peek behind walls.

-A single struggle does not mean a game is not accessible. Should an art museum require interpreters for the blind? Should an orchestra require sign language interpreters for the deaf? I understand you are not 100% disabled, but can't exactly entirely overcome your disability, so why not take advantage of the various things that make the games easier? Things like the above. This bullet point also begs the question of when is something too hard / not accessible?

One thing to note is that if there was anything that prevents invasions, a good half of the current online communities would be blocked off. The games would literally die faster than ever and it would actually end up hurting new players that want to experience the games, as far fewer people would slap down a summon sign to help people out, and a lower population also speeds up community death.

The problem is your explaining tips and strategies, you're talking about things people are not going to know to immediately do upon starting the game

I don't think there's anything wrong with asking/wanting an easy mode in whatever game you so want it for. I also don't think there's anything wrong with a developer not putting one into their games (obviously). By the same token, if From put an easy mode in Elden Ring, that would also be fine.

What really gets me is the way a certain subset of the gaming community, bolstered by another subset of obnoxious people in games media, that act like games not having an easy mode is near offensive.

I also am confused about the overbearing focus on a pre-game menu option for difficulty, especially in the context of Souls games which greatly allow you to modify your own difficulty with summoning, spell builds, etc. Hell, the ring of sacrifice in Dark Souls II (non-Scholar version) is so overpowered you basically never have to lose souls after you get it.

I realize these things require a bit of familiarity with the games, but it's there. Why get mad because the menu doesn't have an "Easy mode" button when the ability to organically push it in-game is there?

It doesn't bother me if it does or doesn't, but difficulty and accessibility settings aren't necessarily the same thing. I have high praise for the TLOU2's accessibility options and Xbox's adaptive controller. I think developers can and should implement software and hardware to cater to the disabled. It can be done without changing the difficulty aspect of the game which is clearly important to the developers as they want the players to have a certain experience.
