I didn't quite nail the Mikan prediction, but I got it mostly right, so I'm counting it as a victory. Did not expect Nekomaru to be a cyborg, though, I thought the twist was going to be that he's a braindead coma patient or something, and we'd have to put him out of his misery as an extra cruel move by Monokuma.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of that case. I hated the killer reveal a lot and felt it was kind of cheap and went against the theme of the series.

Case 3 is an odd one for me.

I don't like it, but I don't know how much of my bias is due to Ibuki's fate in it. It's hard for me to see it objectively.

Did not expect Nekomaru to be a murder victim. I knew he wasn't surviving the game, and I knew he wasn't going to be a killer or the spy, but I figured he'd bite it saving someone else. Once Teruteru died early, I knew the comedic characters weren't going to last long -- Nekomaru lasted much longer than I expected him to, all things considered.

I also truly do appreciate how since everyone's blood is pink, his oil is blue.

I know the killer cannot be Chiaki or Sonia, since they were two of the three who discovered the body. I'm currently in Nagito's portion. Based on what I've learned, I predict Nekomaru traveled using the tower while in sleep mode and that someone else used the elevator to cross and kill him, then returned and somehow got the elevator stuck on the other side. Therefore, the killer must be Akane, Fuyuhiko, or Gundham (I know it's not going to be Nagito). Of these, I'm leaning Akane or Gundham.

EDIT: Oh, my other thought is a suicide. It seems like something Nekomaru would do, but they already did that with Sakura, so they're either going full MGS2 or not, I don't know which.

Oh derp, just realized I forgot Kazuichi exists. He's a definite possibility, and has the advantage of knowing how to break the elevator and take apart a robot. Add him to the list of possibilities.

I assume that in Japanese, Sonia uses commoner speech patterns sometimes, and they had to translate that as weird slang like "fo' sho."

I believe in the Japanese version, Sonia uses a lot of English slang actually. But it's slang that would be weird in Japan but be nothing really in America, so they end up making her use weird English slang as a result.

I'm going off memory from the Something Awful game translation thread that was made before he stopped after it was announced they were making an official release!

Wow, this topic blew up since I saw it.

Be judicious in what you post without spoilers, considering even the TC is using them. I mean, there could have been other people who decided to follow along, but they'd be shooting themselves in the foot now.

Conversely, I hate it when people use spoiler tags just because. Yes, I get that it can have a dramatic effect, much like using dashes or parentheses, but in a topic where spoilers themselves are meaningful, that sort of behavior can lead people who shouldn't to click the spoilers because they don't believe that it contains spoilers this time.

Anyway, Anagram chugging along. People say 2-3 is the worst case, and I fully get why, but I wasn't very precious to Ibuki. She's kinda annoying, tbh. And good riddance to the other two. The ending was kinda taking the cheap way out, but I understand the intent on the writers' part. Personally I dislike 2-4 a lot more because it's painful to look at grape and strawberry tower constantly, for what felt like 3 hours straight. I was so grateful when we finally got to the GD trial.

2-4 beated

I had to look up using "wire" on "maelstrom of blind confusion," that was the most nonsensical minigame puzzle so far. Can I just say that I hate all of the minigames in these games? Logic Dive isn't too bad, but all of the others are terrible. Improved Hangman's Gambit isn't difficult, but it is incredibly time-consuming, which is probably worse.

I'm disappointed that I figured out that it was Gundham only through process of elimination and the fact that he was completely redundant as a cast member, and not by figuring out his plan ahead of time -- I was wrong about basically the entire plan. I was also wrong about Nekomaru doing the Sakura thing, where even Hajime figures out Gundham helped them by killing him. By the way, I knew in one second that he was going to let his hamsters go before dying. Dude, hamsters are purely domestic animals, those things are going to die in one day max when out in the wild.

I assume that from this point on, we're going to do the MGS2 thing where someone steers the plot off-course, the main character discovers a shocking secret about himself, etc. I wouldn't even be surprised if we even get like "glitchy computer world falling apart" stuff just like MGS2, the parallels here are too obvious not to see. Really, my main questions are what's the deal with Monokuma (since he was just controlled by Junko in the first game), what's the deal with Byakuya, and who the traitor is. The game has repeatedly brought up the first game's cast (Monokuma keeps talking about "him," there's a statue of Sakura, Nagito has a copy of who survived the first game), but I don't yet know to what end. I'm going to laugh pretty damn hard if something happens like the characters are literally the same characters from the first game in a computer simulation where they only think they're new people, and that's why everyone is so similar.

As for the traitor, Hajime and Chiaki are the obvious suspects, but I can definitely believe anyone. For now, I'm pegging the likelihood of the traitor as: Chiaki > Hajime > Sonia > Akane > Kazuichi > Fuyuhiko > Nagito. Now, watch it be revealed in chapter 5 that it's Fuyuhiko and I'm just a complete dumbass.

I'll post more general and more specific thoughts on the cases and characters themselves once I finish the game.

This is a direct response to that post, so safe to read.

It's actually very much NOT all that difference from the Sakura situation! There's no murder, but it's also not a suicide. A duel between men to sacrifice themselves to save everyone else. They knew what they were doing.

Gundham isn't quite as noble as Sakura, still struggling somewhat to see if he could win out, but it's clear from how he gives in that he never really expected that in the first place, and hell, maybe he even would have given himself up if it came to it. Also, whose to say Sakura wouldn't have also put in some degree of effort through the trial in the same situation?

Gundham was one of my least-favorite characters before 2-4. He was a one-note character and that note got played over and over again until I was sick of it.

His attitude and dialogue during and leading up to the trial boosted my appreciation of him a LOT.

Got to the fifth trial, stopped for now.

Sonia is being pushed as so obviously suspicious that I now wonder if she can even be the traitor. These trials always push an obvious suspect or two before revealing the real killer. Chiaki is the next most obvious, has done some sketchy stuff, and is pushed hard by the game as a helpful friend, so I won't be surprised at all if she's it.

At first, I thought the knife in Nagito's hand was the knife given to Makoto in D1, it has a similar look to it, but Kazuichi was like "knife's probably from the military base bro." I actually doubt it's the knife from D1 if only because that would be a deep ****ing cut if it was.

Even though we were told the Ultimate Imposter died, eh, I give it 70:30 odds that Hajime is him.

The novel is not worthless, it's fairly solid. If you mean, like, needed for the plot here then no.

Basically until you get to V3 you can assume any additional gameplay modes are not gonna be a good time.

V3 actually has some really great post game stuff, on the other hand.

I would absolutely say V3.

UDG isn't necessary for V3, nor does V3 cause a problem for playing UDG later if you want. If you want more DR after V3 then go right ahead, but nobody well tell you it's a priority.

It depends. Do you want to keep playing visual novels, or do you want to play an uninspired Resident Evil 4 clone set in the Danganronpa universe.

V3 doesn't really spoil UDG, so you can skip straight to V3 and do UDG and the anime later on.

The best thing I can say about the DR3 anime is the dub is incredible.

Imagine if Team Fourstar did it under the guise that it still had to be accurate and coherent, but half the dialogue still felt right out of one of their abridged series. That's the DR3 dub.
