If you can get it set up with a couple friends, it's pretty cool. There's also a mode (which I don't think is the same one Para mentioned? Unless I'm misunderstanding him) where everybody's items are randomized across everybody's games. So you're not actually sharing items, but it'd be like, you could find Para's hookshot and I could find your boomerang, or you could find your own Fire Arrows.

(*Disclaimer: Never done either of these setups for OoT, but not at all unfamiliar with the concept)
Yeah I only just learned about this from their commentary during the run, this sounds cool as hell too. I think it's a different thing, I'm talking about one where two people actually occupy the same instance (like, you can see each other in the world and you share everything).

Man I remember being super hyped for We Happy Few when they revealed the trailer, and I can't remember what it was that killed the hype.

But it actually looks interesting again during this run. Did anyone actually play this game?

That's funny because my thought process was almost identical to that during the run!

I rememeber hearing bad things about it I think, but that run at least looked super interesting and I was thinking of picking the game up now.

If I remember right peoples reaction to the first early access version was so negative (because it was a way different game from what the original trailer made it look like it was going to be) that the developers changed course and actually made it more like what people had wanted by the time it actually reached 1.0

Ah, bummer. You hate to see something like that happen.

This run might actually get me to try it out though, probably when it's on Steam sale.

I only caught the last 20 minutes or so, but on the surface (based on end times) the Metroid Fusion 1% Hard race seems like an embarrassment on whoever scheduled/accepted it. It wasn't even remotely close?

No. 1% Hard is an INSANELY difficult category and it is completely within the realm of expectation that one of the runners would take a few more unfortunate game overs than usual.

I think they do races for absurdly hard categories like that not to be competitive, but so if one person game overs hardcore over and over they can still have someone finish the game

They were both under estimate despite the 10 minute gap between runners. So clearly there was some cushion in there, and that's fine. To me in that sense it makes for a better show to just have one runner with room for error as opposed to a race environment where the race is awkwardly not close.

Just because the race wasn't close doesn't mean that it didn't have the potential to be close. Both runners are skilled and one runner had the better day. The runner you're saying they should have been embarrassed to accept was the original pioneer of the category.

Last donation total I saw was 2,309,530. That's 4th highest among all GDQs. AGDQ 2021 was announced for Jan 3-10 but no location was listed since they likely don't know if there will be a physical event or not.

Not to be a downer, but especially given that this event was a success, it's a near-certainty that AGDQ 2021 will be online. I think the question at this point is whether or not SGDQ 2021 will be online or not - that's gonna be sketchy. AGDQ 2021 should be certain though.

Well the thing is, even if you were optimistic enough to believe that the pandemic would be under control in January 2021, you have to start preparing for the event well before that. You basically have to start preparing now and we really aren't in a good enough place with the pandemic yet. If things have calmed down in January 2021 then SGDQ 2021 might happen in person, but even that I find pretty questionable.

I actually don't mind the online format that much. It got more foreign runners there who otherwise likely wouldn't be there.

I'm sure for a lot of the runners themselves they prefer to be there though and talk with others and make friends, but I certainly don't mind the online format.

That said, they might as well just make it online too just so they don't waste time and resources trying to set it up somewhere live, especially since they appear to have figured out the online thing and can probably only improve how they do it on the back end.
