This is like the third time in a few months that I've been reminded "oh yeah, they didn't cancel it, they just changed it and moved it".

I vouch for Kirby & The Amazing Mirror 100% - the game has been run in marathons before but strangely only any% every time. 100% shows off the full map and the cool routing that goes into collecting everything from the entire labyrinth of an overworld.

Also noteworthy is that Virtual Boy Wario Land will be the first time that a VB game was in a GDQ (the runner has a capture modded console).

primary thought is "why would I watch or play this doom/quake knockoff instead of the real deal"

i think runs where they just skip the entire game (via out of bounds or whatever) are best saved for games at least a decent amount of people know

i'm admittedly biased in that i think those runs in general are boring, but I can at least see the appeal in seeing a game you know skip huge sections/the game. in this its like ok they may have skipped 10 seconds or 10 hours who knows, i still don't know anything about this game, zzz

The Millennium Racer run has been...an experience.

I feel bad for the Power Blade runner. They screwed up a lot early on and had lots of deaths. When they finally started to get their act together the run was killed by technical issues.

I've only caught a few GDQ online only events in the past. It's definitely feels like they've had more tech issues for this event than the other ones I've seen.

well, yeah, of course. I mean every runner and commentator is streaming from their own home. When I said "poor tech team" I did mean "I feel sorry for the tech team" if that wasn't clear. I wasn't knocking them. It's a herculean task.

Yeah, for the most part online events have got a handle on things, this is a bit unusual. I know parts of the Northeast US are still dealing with internet problems due to the tropical storm last week. And now if any upcoming participants are in California they might be out of luck, rolling blackouts were just announced starting tonight due to the heat wave.

Witcher 3 runner was amazing. He carried a 2-hour run with no couch and made it easily the most entertaining of the few I've seen so far.

I only caught part of it, but the Alien Isolation run was extremely fun. Really recommend going back and watching that.

I missed the explanation for co-op on randomizer OOT. Are the both playing the same seed separately or are they playing at the same time somehow? Any reason why it's not a race?

They're both playing the same seed, separately. They share information and the goal is to have either player complete the game.

There is actually a mod of OoT you can play that lets you play co-op in the same instance of a single game, sharing any items you find and such, but they're not doing that. That itself is a pretty interesting thing to speedrun too though.

If you can get it set up with a couple friends, it's pretty cool. There's also a mode (which I don't think is the same one Para mentioned? Unless I'm misunderstanding him) where everybody's items are randomized across everybody's games. So you're not actually sharing items, but it'd be like, you could find Para's hookshot and I could find your boomerang, or you could find your own Fire Arrows.

(*Disclaimer: Never done either of these setups for OoT, but not at all unfamiliar with the concept)
