remember the first weeks where only celebrities had access to PPE and test kits? then weeks after they slowly rolled out a bunch of tests that either failed or disappeared? then a few months later they said you can get tested but only if you have symptoms which when youre Asymptomatic is not good.

well here we are in August. can you casually walk on in to your clinic and a request a Covid-19 test without being questioned/denied?

if youre in a red state thats supporting the president, itll be a lot more difficult. The president literally doesnt want you getting a test, because to him more testing means more cases and he doesnt like cases

I live in a red state and we're taking the pandemic seriously more than most. In fact my state has been praised repeatedly for showing other red states how its done.

people your age are waaaayyyyyy more at risk. if you can't find a test normally, i think there are senior citizen centers where they would fast track you no problem, ok?

Yep. I'm not going to add "what if I have corona?" to my list of anxiety issues. I mean if I ran to the doctors evertime I felt some kind of pain I'd never leave.

To be fair, the bluest blue states were also the ones that took the biggest hit from this in the first place, so they were always going to have a much different perspective of things than most of the rest of the country.

Not to mention that a homogeneous response isn't always the best answer for an extremely heterogeneous population - what works/is necessary in extremely population-dense areas isn't necessarily going to be all that helpful in much more rural/dispersed regions. Laypeople ALWAYS seem to ignore this whenever discussing social, political, or economic issues, but like it or not, the US is one of the most diverse nations on Earth across multiple demographic spectra, and that makes it extremely hard to push for any singular blanket solution to any given complex problem. Which is why "Well, Policy X worked in Country Y, so why don't we do it here?" is usually an incredibly naive (if not stupid) question.

My personal view of the virus and the response to it is very much colored by living near the main epicenter of the outbreak in the US for the first few months, but I'd almost certainly have a very different perspective of it if I lived in rural Montana where I had to drive like an hour to see another human being.

How is that a defense? You handle food and interact with the public as part of your job, you are a literal hub for viral traffic. You should check you're clear so you don't kill off your customers through negligence.

They had to insure that the hot spots were taken care of first. And as with most problems then and now, the biggest problems were in the blue states.

Trump told the republican governors to stop testing. Texas and Florida literally didnt test anyone in the first couple months of the pandemic. Of course their numbers didnt start showing up until things started getting real bad.

and Florida has been refusing to report deaths and infected for a while now. And those two states are still the worst right now

By your logic, every single "essential" worker (medical personal, police and firemen, restuarants, grocery stores, Wal-Mart's, etc.) should be getting tested daily. That's impossible, suggesting it is ridiculous.

I've had 3 tests already. Last one was about three weeks ago.

I prepare people's food and speak to hundreds of people directly in a day. Most of my coworkers think coronavirus is a democrat conspiracy. I have felt very mildly ill, just not enough to be allowed to call off. People come in working and complain about a killer headache or not being able to get out of bed.

I don't have access to tests. Wouldn't even know where to get one. No insurance. I haven't been been to the doctor in 10 years.

In Australia, yes. Our office had someone temperature checked before she walked in the front doors and got sent home. Thought I'd get checked that same day so I left work and drive straight to a drive-thru testing clinic. Got a text the next day (within 24 hours) saying that it was negative.

Like others have said, it depends where you live. When I decided to get tested, I was able to make an appointment for the next day, was in and out of the testing parking lot in five minutes, and got the results in 48 hours. That should be the bare minimum for everyone if we want to get this under control. In South Korea you can get results back within a day.

Why would that be impossible? It takes about ten seconds to conduct the test.
