Yeah. Pretty sure. I specifically noticed because I was using Lulu and Yuna in the same battle, and Yuna is just a much stronger caster. Once she gets access to Lulu's spells, Lulu becomes irrelevant.

Hm, I guess later on Lulu isnt great. But thats mainly because her overdrive (most important thing late game) kinda sucks and her ultimate weapon is really annoying to get compared to everyones but maybe Wakkas.

But at that point its basically just the post game stuff you have to worry about.

When you get your first friend sphere is when I usually have Yuna learn some black magic because her Mag stat is just so much higher. Around the Calm lands or something

My lukewarm take is that Lulu is an obnoxious authoritarian and I would hate her irl.

Like, Wakka is more overtly bigoted, but if you avoid talking about politics/current events then he's a decent guy to chill with. Lulu is just annoying and full of it 24/7.

Character design wise she's on the low end but it's not her fault the other FFX characters are impeccably designed. Auron/Rikku/Tidus/Yuna are all fantastic, Kimahri is good, Lulu's got nothing on any of them.

I just can't imagine any scenario in which Lulu's aesthetic DOESN'T come across as blatant fanservice. She lives in the same island village as Wakka and Yuna and Kimahri, yet looks completely out of place among them, like she should live in Luca or Guadosalam or something. And the outfit is just dumb in general. I think back to the scene where everyone is grinding the wires to rescue Yuna, and Lulu is the only character not shown, because how the fuck is she supposed to move in that dress?

I used to hate Lulu for this reason.

On a recent replay I kinda found her a lot more tolerable. She felt more like an authority (on Spira) rather than authoritarian. Not overly forceful about trying to tell you things, but just more of a "hey, maybe you shouldn't do that" and Tidus has a lot of those moments where it's not necessarily bad thing to say he might want to rein it in.

Maybe it's cause I'm nearly 20 years older now and have dealt with much more overbearing people than Lulu but yeah I think she's more respectful about it all than the word authoritrarian implies.

Not that I disagree about her attire being out of place, but Lulu is actually shown being carried by Kimahri down the wire.

Just fyi, last year Seymour finished 12th and Auron was a (narrow) 3rd. In XX Seymour was 6th and Rikku was 5th. So there's some consistently good series representation!

Now that you're fully on board my (hot take) prediction of Top 5 Seymour looks a bit better (assuming your FFX loyalties remain intact!)

Ah, I know somebody documented recently how "2nd best FFVIII" is never really that good... XX was X-ATM in 41st and in XXI, Laguna in 42nd (though Laguna had finished 2nd place in XIX).

Kind of trending to a similar result between Quistis and Zell this year, but Squall can be relied on for a top 10 run (barring lawyerings). Though nothing's certain.

Auron is my mainstay main character along with Vivi, and Lulu is my 3rd. So I try to do what I can for those 3, obviously it doesn't always work out (Auron getting hardbooted that one year when I was the only one to save him) but doing alright so far this year! We'll see how long we can keep it going

I've been saving Quistis for a while and gotten the occasional Zell save, it just seems like they're both barely hanging on. If Rinoa were here she would be a pretty high priority for me.

I don't dislike Seymour, but he's easily my lowest priority of the 6 left. I kinda like Leblanc in all her tomfoolery, Yunalesca is as memorable as a one scene character could possibly be, and I'm very fond of the other three. Martin says Auron was 3rd last year, I'd eagerly support a push for him to go all the way.

I think if Auron was going to repeat or at least make a finals run, it would have been last year. His run was on the back of him getting hard booted and falling out of the ECC the year before that. I can't really see him getting that sort of support again. Kinda blew it with the usual GOAT dragging last year. That's a running theme, meaning Auron would have to be the heavy lifter and some GOAT would have to be drug into the finals with him. Not really sure that's in the cards.

I should also say, there's a historical bias against characters who've won previously (even if we weren't around when that win happened! I missed out on Cloud by one year...) and since Auron won like, 20 contests ago, that'd still be held against him.

What you need to do is support Seymour for the win, because charon winning both SMFFFC and Save My Anime would match my luck from last year.

Then SMDC happens and Simba wins to get the triple crown.

I think the way to avoid the repeat bias is to be from IX, where pretty much all the good characters sans Beatrix won, so who else is left to push

Yeah I don't know anything about SMDC lore other than the endgame of last year so that was an assumption on my part.

Also would be nice if Garnet could make a deeper run, I remember last year saying I'd like to see that. 16 in XX, 15 in XXI. Could be a breakthrough year!

....FF9 is a good game but I really can't root for any of their characters in this contest at this point besides her.
