This is why I question the hospitalization and the numbers in general. Illinois' 5% means 1/20 tests is positive. This is bad enough without accounting for uninsured who are not getting tested. People have stopped wearing masks and social distancing.

I do not think that Illinois is faking its numbers. I think people are getting sick and one of more of the following

They have to work
They do not have insurance
They know now that dying with covid in the hospital means dying alone.

With health experts expecting fall to get bad here, I wonder if some states will go back on lockdown measures? You already know the south wont. But I could see the west and northeast states doing semi-lockdowns again.

The attitude here where I'm at is that the death rate is low enough we shouldn't be worried at all. They don't realize that not dying doesn't mean coming away 100% healthy. Would you be happy surviving if you had to live the rest of your life without half of your lung and kidney function and owe a $100,000 hospital bill?

People including whole families are coming up here for vacations like it's still summer. Our work is debating going against state mandate and making masks optional, just because they are tired of fighting with customers.

This is going to be an ugly autumn.

I dont get the timing of it at all, when cases are surging everywhere. I get they didnt have to have these specials out for this long, but the timing of it now seems tone deaf.

I know I keep posting these but it's sad how places that did so great staying green in the northeast are now turning back to yellow and red. People are way too relaxed.

A town near me in PA (West Chester) just declared a state of emergency last night due to a huge spike in cases. This town was doing so well since the start of the pandemic and now theyre getting a ton of cases. Its also a college town, so Im sure theres a correlation there. Although the colleges here are all virtual this semester
