In the past month, my area seems like its back to normal minus mask wearing. I dont know anyone social distancing anymore.

Live/work in a college town and its the end of the first week of classes.

Our 2-week positive % has gone from 2.5% last week to 16.5% this week.

Cases have been dropping despite schools and colleges reopening and % rates increasing or staying level.

It really seems like although not much has changed on the Covid front, it's just taken a backseat and isn't a thing anymore.

Just for perspective, a "normal" day recently is around 40,000 new cases. Just a few months ago, it was 20,000 right before states like Arizona blew up.

But people are still acting like we're doing much better now, despite being double from that low period. Keep in mind the whole summer was supposed to be a down period too.

It's crazy.

Found out that my work at a county building is opening back up fully in a week. The public can go where they want, hold meetings, etc. School starts on Monday so you would think they'd wait to see the fallout from that as well as Labor Day, but no. I thought it was the county higher ups like the Mayor pushing for us to fully re-open, but I learned it was just my boss. Oh, and my work has stopped providing masks for employees because "they cost too much" even though we were told earlier in day that the county funds are doing great because they haven't spent much during the shutdown.

What gets me the most is that, ever since March, my boss has told the entire staff repeatedly that we should be "happy and grateful to continue working while others are without a job." Mind you, the building I work in will not ever close down. We also do not receive our yearly raise and have been dealing with the public since May. The public who, at times, dislikes how we're safely operating and decides to spit on things or yell in our faces. I should be grateful that I get to continue working where I'm risking my life and my families? Sometimes, it gets incredibly depressing....

....time to see how Enji Night is doing in the tournament. >_<

Supposedly there is a Japanese custom where you go drinking with your boss and speak your minds. True or not, it may work on a revolving plan where you rotate in and out on 30 minute shifts. No need to let the boss know you will be rotating in and out.

It's gotten better than it was in July, mostly because of bars shutting down and face mask requirements.

But Texas bars have been fighting tooth and nail to reopen, because I guess endangering public health during a pandemic is kosher, so Texas has yielded a little bit today.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus has the potential to get worse as it keeps spreading among people. The fact that more things keep being discovered about the coronavirus is an indicator of that. I think the final nail in the coffin, will be when the scientists discover the long term affects?
-infertility(?)
-remain dormant for x amount of time, activates again but the symptoms are 10 times worse now that the host is a lot older and has lower chance of fighting it than they did when they were young
-vector hosts that attained the coronavirus as a kid, somewhere down the line face detrimental effects of the coronavirus:
*brain swelling
*brain damage
*multiple organ failure/sever organ failure or long term complications
*psychological problems(?)

Does anyone have more info about that 5 minute rapid Covid test? Hows the reliability of it? From what Ive read; these rapid tests have an extremely high false positive rate.

Well after 5 months I'm finally gonna be able to cut my hair thanks to Newson's new tier level reopening plan. Otherwise I would be growing it til next year I'm sure. My county still highly infected although way less than May-June

In S.C. we went from upper 400s to 500 cases a day, to over 1200 a day once the colleges started. University of S.C. is being lit up with cases, as well as the Citadel (news said something along the lines of "Its okay, they have the sick beds to handle it")

Public schools open next Tuesday, in my area. I work in the school system and can tell you it will be an absolute mess. The news is reporting things to be used as safety measures that are just not in place. One school so far as the safety glass between desks. The glass is short too. If a small kid stands up it will be no issue to have his face over it. Teachers have been working together closely, unmasked. If they need to be policed to wear masks, how are they trusted to enforce the rules for children?

I never saw this one coming. I have had trouble wrapping my head around Chicago having a lower positivity rate than counties south of its Cook County. They are way less population dense. In an inverse way this mentality may be saving Chicago. Chicago has about 50% compliance and a 5.2 positivity rate is nothing to brag on but I am grateful it is not worse.

If these southern counties (Kankakee and Rantoul) are blowing off guidelines, then my guess is that they are staying out of Chicago voluntarily. Next I also guess that their staying out of Chicago is keeping Chicago's infection rate down based on my picture that the fewer people moving around the less the coronavirous contagion will be.

BTW, the main campus of the University of Illinois is in Champaign-Urbana county and they have a [weird] plan of some physical class time. I like completely forgot about this thread for a week or so. I used to check this thread many times a day. It is very weird how so many seem determined to act like everything is fine when it is actually much worse.

I have to make the comparison as well that people seem more used to protesting and general civil unrest. BLMs approval ratings were super high after the George Floyd killing and have now dropped to levels previous of that incident.

It's like this country at large doesn't want to learn a lesson about anything and just wants to maintain status quo with a fingers in the ears type attitude. Like I'm trying to be a "good" person and treat all of the major ills currently facing society with seriousness, but I still feel fatigue. Everything feels so much more stressful and I just want to forget about it sometimes.

Social media gives the common citizen the impression that he has a voice. Let me point out that this is a false impression. Most of social media is read as much as my average post is read. Some posts on social media go viral. I argue that they go viral due to professional instigators but regardless going viral is a rare phenomenon.

Well, even an anoymous poster like you or me can have an impact on someone's psyche and mind construction. Which now that I think about it, can be very dangerous and why things like Redhill have evolved.
