Love Scope comes off as this big disappointnent when compared to how much I loved the other two Caligula songs.

that first match is a lot closer for me today than i expected. might even be leaning slightly towards move me, but don't want to jump the gun on a verdict there. will try to come back to it by the end of the match.

also slightly down on dnf for once too but in its case that doesn't even come close to affecting my vote and it's still my favourite today lol

That's not an indication that I disliked DNF FW15C (ALL PHASE MIX), though. It's closer to being an indication that I thought the other three were great, but mostly it's an indication that the other three are very close for me. All Phase mix has its good phases and bad phases.

13th place for 13 Sentinels WOW

Isoleucine is a very interesting song. I feel like no two bars of it are the same. It's constantly shifting and evolving, with that sparse staccato tune in the background as a consistency. It's always a blast to listen to this. It doesn't exactly stick with me though - it's enjoyable at the time but I have a hard time remembering most of it. (Not quite as bad as Deoxyribose, which I can't recall a single second of.) That said, I still really like the song! And almost because I don't remember much of it, relistening is always a new experience.

I love the R4 soundtrack! So many classic songs on it. Move Me isn't quite top tier from the soundtrack for me - that honor goes to Movin' in Circles, which I nominated this year - but still exemplifies a lot of the strong attributes of the soundtrack: slick production, jazz-rock stylings, catchy beats and melodies. The song gets a little repetitive in the second half, with the guitar sort of covering the same ground over and over, but I still really love the song, particularly the glitchy/feedback section at the tail end.

This a tough call so I am RELISTENING

- Isoleucine's strings near the start are so good omg. Then it does this PSO surging synth thing that makes me very happy. I don't love the dubstep portion as much as the rest but it's only a little bit of the song, and even then it's not too bad. Really, this is just a song I could get lost in for weeks, there's just so much going on.
- The opening to Move Me is just heavenly, and then the way it segues into the more breakbeat/jazz/rock section is just top-notch. If the song has one flaw, it's that (as I said above) the guitar can get a little repetitive.

My vote is clear...!

What I had:

wtf why is DNF so low? The beginning is so good, with the slow fadeup and the raw EMOTION pulsating from every orifice. Then it gets to the halfway point and oh yeah, now I remember. DNF strikes me as a song that hurts from having the ALL PHASE MIX: the first phase is so strong for me, and the rest just doesn't hold up. Really drags in places. It's a shame, especially since that first phase really comes out guns blazing.

Love Scope isn't Onboro but it's still rockin', full of the energy that seems indicative of the Caligula soundtrack. Not much to say about this one - it knows what it's here to do and it accomplishes it. Catchy as heck too! I also LOVE how it ends, those two short notes that immediately cut off. Stylish!

isoleucine - first encountered: 13 sentinels joint listenthrough with Toxtricity - trend: steady
-whenever I listen to this I marvel at how well-executed it is. energetic and upbeat but never in a rush, cool variations in mood, composition and arrangement while maintaining a cohesive feel, impeccably produced. even the shifts between its internal phases feels seamless. what a standout from a standout soundtrack.

move me - first encountered: deo's guessing game - trend: steady
-move me's breakbeat groove is fast but moves through its variations at a fairly leisurely pace (and anchors itself pretty firmly to that tonic chord throughout). it's the latter that makes me more impatient than perhaps I should be about this track. it wants me to sit back and enjoy the ride but I want it to 'FLOOR IT!', as it were.

dnf - first encountered: listenthrough of soundtrack after Mac's post in pre-vgmc12 topic - trend: steady
-a lot of my fondness for dnf actually revolves around dnf -I-. the buildup of the first phase is cool, and I like its airier (and strangely more wistful) feel. like other all phase mixes in blue reflection, I see dnf as a tasty fish with a lot of bones-- there's a lot to enjoy but I need to pick my way around it a bit, and it can be tiresome to do that and sometimes I just want a fillet, you know? (man these metaphors are getting weirder)

love scope - first encountered: this vgmc (I checked out some of the caligula effect soundtrack when it came out but didn't really do a focused listenthrough) - trend: slightly up
-I can dig love scope if I don't overthink it and just enjoy it as fun, catchy, high-energy j-rock track, though my feelings on the vocals getting more off-kilter as the song progresses is mixed. I can imagine it as like a cool shounen anime OP or something. you know, scenes flashing by in the first 8 seconds, followed by the title shortly afterward and then the show credits appear starting at 0:27 where the vocals kick in while the main characters show up in cool poses or goofy personality scenes, followed by actions scenes at 0:35. then at 0:43 (probably my favourite part of each verse) other characters (mysterious ones!) show up in slow panning shots. wonderful! I can see the whole thing play out in my head.

DNF FW15C is good, it's just the other 3 songs are incredible. I'm actually considering rooting for Love Scope until the end. That song is awesome.
