Games, books, other hobbies you can do at home, pets (if you have them), children (if you have them), new electronics, smart house, better versions of stuff, bigger/better house, houses to rent to make more money, trying new foods, expensive restaurant, etc... There's so much other stuff to spend money on...

And if you do retire early, you won't have to worry about anything. And depending on how much you saved, you can take lavish vacations all the time after retirement. But you would need to save a lot... Or have more income like renting 20 houses or something... blu posted... If you can't find ways to spend it, you lack imagination. Even at $400k, it wouldn't be terribly hard to blow through it even without vacations. Pragmatically speaking, you'll want to spend at little as possible. One of my cousins makes around $85k per year and, because he's incredibly frugal and is in a conservative state, he might be living on under $10k/year. Most of his paycheck goes right into his 401k. Between all of his investments, I think he's at about $500k despite only making decent money for a few years at most. He's also the sort of person I can't ever imagine retiring.

My brother and his wife make over $300k between them. They rarely vacation, but they're anything but frugal. As a result, I don't believe they have much in savings at all. They like nice things, they eat at nice places, and they own better versions of most things. --- (\/)(\/)|-| There are precious few at ease / With moral ambiguities / So we act as though they don't exist. ...
