Dude who dressed up as the grim reaper and was selling body bags to people on the beach to shame them for going to the beach in Florida during the Coronavirus is proudly posting videos of him at the protests not shaming people but actively participating. Lol. It's funny how people pick and choose what to care about.

Yeah going to the beach because youre an asshole who doesnt care if you infect people is the exact same as protesting a system of police brutality that routinely kills you. Jesus Christ youre an idiot.

The issue was heading out to gatherings. Intent doesn't matter for that, only the action and result. That's the way disease works.

Yeah, I'm not against the protests for the record. The fact that COVID is still around and people are still willing to protest en masse speaks volumes for the cause. The protests are entirely justified.

However, yes they are obviously going to cause a huge spike in numbers down the line. I'm honestly surprised that the police haven't tried to justify their diffusion tactics with it being for COVID purposes or charging protestors with endangering lives / officers by exposing them to COVID. Not that I think they should do that, I'm just surprised they haven't tried to spin it that way (unless they have and I missed it)

I'm just saying, you can't act holier-than-thou making big stunts and screaming at people that they're killing grandma if they go out in any kind of group and then go out and join these protests.

Because all you're saying is that you aren't as worried about killing grandma as you acted like you were. You just wanted to be a sanctimonious asshole.

(Not pointing out anyone on this board since I didn't pay too much attention to if anyone was acting like that.)

Man I'm doing Georgia unemployment and it's impossible.

No responses to emails in over 2 weeks. 2 of the 3 phone numbers I can call arent even operational (including the interstate one which is my main one) and the other has no hold or call back so it just always says its busy and recommends try emailing or writing and mailing a letter.

I totally agree that there are movements and moments that are too important to be affected by coronavirus. It's just that a lot of the people who agree with that now were criticizing the Texas Lt. Gov for essentially saying the same thing several weeks ago when he said "There's more important things than living." Obviously this issue is more important than what he was talking about, but people were acting like the sentiment itself was preposterous.

yes because theyre different things and maybe the risk isnt justified for a day at the beach but is justified to protest the police brutality. maybe one thing is important and the other isnt.

Maybe the risk is significantly less of a family of 4 going to a beach then tens of thousands in close proximity?

was there some kind of one family per beach rule? I assumed were talking about a beach other people are going to also which would be crowded, not some rich family going to their private beach.

Police were enforcing 6 feet apart per family in sitting spots. Typically people don't sit in water together either and spread in water is non-existent to my knowledge.

PA is a shitshow right now. HR836 passed the other day. Half the populace is saying it ends the emergency declaration and essential/non-essential and color phases are gone. Even a State Senator is saying this. Others are expecting a governor veto. Others are saying a governor can't veto this type of legislation. Only a court can overturn it.

So, I have no idea wtf is going on. All I know is Kennywood opens July 11th and mask or no mask, I am taking my kid there one day this summer.

the netherlands drops another spot on the list of countries with the most cases, from #24 to #25. sweden takes the #24 spot.

this is an interesting one because the anti-lockdown people have often been going "sweden didn't take any covid measures and they're doing fine!" turns out that sweden is now doing worse than at least one country that was put on lockdown.

Good stuff.

Anyone here live in Florida? What happened down there? Apparently it's the new epicenter.
I don't understand the epicenter concerns. Florida's chart doesn't show a huge peak but an up and down relatively bumping slowly ascension. It had a new high in cases the other day for a day, but it just is a day so far.

Arizona is the only one that looks concerning from a chart standpoint.

Though I read an article about an Arizona man crying for Ducey to do something because 5 of his family members died to the virus, but reading the article and others... It is just of his 6 family members 5 have gotten it... 4 of which recovered already. So, Idk. I am not trusting the news too much on this right now.

One said 18 states are rising in cases. 3 of which were states that went from like 1 case a day to 3. Hawaii, Montana, and Alaska. Others it was a rise depending on the days you decided to go from.

As you can see, Florida had a spike in cases the last day. But, it in general it isn't showing a rise (as of now).

The main rise is in California. Texas somewhat.

I live in Florida (Orlando), nothing happened. Things have opened back up so numbers have gone up as expected but nothing too bad. Not sure how numbers have been presented elsewhere but numbers only look bad because of how good the numbers were previously. Like I live in Orange County which has a population of maybe 4m and there's been 46 deaths total and like 3000 cases. So if they are showing percentages rather than numbers, any sort of small spike is going to show up as large when it really isn't in context

Today, I put gas in my car for I think the first time since March. I did everything wrong.

Forgot to take out my Speedy Rewards card during checkout.

Pulled the wrong lever in my floorboard, and opened the trunk instead of the gas tank cover.

Forgot to select the type of gas before trying to start pumping.

It was a funny kind of experience for me, having been so "out of the loop" of my old life for so long, to see just how much certain little things we do all the time are largely habitual.

something to pay attention in all this is the business side of things.
i didn't see it talked about a lot but decided to check how AMC was doing. they released their Q1 data just a few days ago.

revenue for Q1 was <$1 billion and they've a net loss of $2.2 billion.

they say they want to open all theaters in July but 1) that depends on the state (won't for NY) and 2) even if they do manage to open people just won't go to it that quickly. 3) nobody knows what condition the theaters will be in considering how much debt is being taken on. Q2, April - June, is going to have a revenue closer than not to $0. you are looking at billions upon billions in debt. if they manage to survive the only good news is they won't need to pay taxes for a while with this kind of situation.

Bars should not be allowed to reopen with anything resembling normal operating procedure. They have the same problems as restaurants (indoors, cant wear masks while drinking, people are there for an extended period of time), but then youre most likely substantially increasing density, and alcohol will make people even sloppier about basic precautions.

yeah, there's no way that what the bar was doing was legal. i was stunned when i saw it. especially because it had only been less than two weeks since bars reopened in the first place here. i'm sure that if the police had crashed the bar they would've been fucked lol

there weren't that many people there (especially for a friday night) but yeah, alcohol (and other "super legal" substances) made people extremely sloppy about social distancing. i'll admit i wasn't perfectly following the social distancing rules either, though i did at least try.
