I drove to a deli for lunch today. They had a rule where only seven or so people could come inside at once (mandated, I suppose), and a line formed outside. Of course, once you got in you saw all seven people were close to each other anyway, on top of all the cooks who were right next to each other as well.

At some point you have to stop what youre doing and ask yourself, wtf are we doing as a society?

Probably one of those Georgia drivers that don't have to take tests for a license now

I am honestly convinced that at this point, the virus is being used as a political weapon. The media does nothing but portray how bad the virus is (completely ignoring all the positive efforts being made as well as the positive statistics), and talking about how any attempts at returning to normalcy is utterly devastating, foolish by the states who are doing it, etc. etc. And every time it does that it is an indirect but intentional attack against the current political party in office. Its a real shame this is an election year or else we likely wouldnt have been enduring negative COVID news for so long.

that one might be the most WTF rule out of all of them. i was cracking up when i saw that shit because there's just no good reaction beyond that. unless you're in Georgia, of course. then fear and utter disbelief is appropriate considering a note from mom means you're free to drive.

you just know there's a bunch of lawyers out there waiting for the first accident to go to court.

A lot of the cars barely even react to the guy in front of them driving crazily in reverse and continue driving as normal too.

So glad I moved out of there. Driving was already horrible with the awful roads and drivers.

The biggest risers lately in cases have been UK, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, Peru, and India.

This is all of course possibly related to testing capacity though.

Also the Russian deaths are impossibly low unless they are legit just catching every single case and all asymptomatics. 177k infected with 1,700 dead. It's even more extreme of an outlier than China, Germany, and Turkey.

Went to pickup food at one of my favorite restaurants and theyre open on the inside again. No rearranging or anything, people are crammed in like it used to be.

We are officially yellow in my county. Still gonna be shut down and foreclosing my home but it's the little things.

So Greene County in PA 2 days ago had their DA come out and say anyone who didn't follow guidelines and opened would not be prosecuted because they won't kill their businesses and hurt their residents over the order.

Today, Wolf announced all of SW PA is yellow now besides Beaver County. Beaver County swiftly declared they are going yellow and will not prosecute anyone who disobeys the red guidelines by Wolf.

Almost an outright revolt going on.

My own county has continued a seeming acceleration of cases, though it may still be from increased testing. Over 10% increase today. It's one of the worst per capita in Virginia now, worse than Fairfax County.

In related news, we've crossed 4 million cases worldwide.

Apparently there's a new outbreak in South Korea that was started by a guy who was visiting nightclubs in Seoul.

The biggest problem is that these were gay clubs and being gay in Korea is pretty heavily stigmatized...

This is leading to issues with anti-gay sentiment, but it's also a huge problem because it's significant harder to track the potentially infected. People are going to be less willing to come forward and out themselves as gay, meaning a lot of people are potentially going to be unaccounted for.

To make matters worse, there's a lot of foreigners in that district, and they may not get the phone alerts.

Apparently one of my coworkers was infected and sick about 4 weeks ago. She hasnt had symptoms in like two weeks and is still testing positive so they wont let her come back. Crazy how long this thing can stay with people

They are perfectly constitutional orders. Its why almost every state in the country issued similar orders. These orders have no constitutional power referenced one way or the other granted to the federal government, and thus are legally enforceable by the States under the 10th amendment.

This is also, for reference, why the federal government has issued "Guidelines" to the states and not orders. If the federal government attempted to enact an order and a state refused, the law would likely be challenged in court and struck down by the very same 10th amendment.

Yeppp. I work at a Target and leaving work last night, we had a line of maybe 50 people outside (we can have 350 people in the store before we keep a line outside) and...the majority of the people in the line did not appear to be social distancing very well. Kind of defeats the purpose. Good job, citizens.

When I went to Safeway today everyone in line was distancing and had a mask on, but there were two guys sitting at a table outside (right by the light) talking without masks.

I think your math is wrong by a 0... im pretty sure .25% of 300 million is 750,000

Correct. 75,000 is .25% of 30,000,000, meaning an infection rate of about 10%

i think two months ago now i had a friend keeping track of this since Jan tell me and a couple friends her take on this:

yes, this is "just the flu."
before we had developed any immunity and resistance, that is.
basically, what would happen if a flu variant spread for the first time ever?

with the current numbers and estimates, i think she's got it. it has a low death rate, a high asymptomatic rate, but its infection rate is stupidly high and a lot of people are gonna die or need hospitals from that alone. there's a few major differences here and there - the length of time, the severity to the people it does hit, the symptoms, all the different biologic functions corona impacts that the flu doesn't - but it's a similar picture when looking at just the basic numbers.
